Lets each list a favorite video game character and eventually we'll have a list of the top 100 best video game characters.

Easily one of the most compelling characters I have found within gaming. His existential conflicts within Final Fantasy IX where more compelling than the main story of the game for me. The horror of finding his being was created as puppets for war and then coming to terms with leading his own life away from that is very endearing. I also respect how earnest he is and despite all these heavy themes he's still a kid who wants to go watch a Windmill.

5. Duke Nukem

Probably the most fun video character to play as in any video game. whether the game is A 2D platformer, or A 3rd Person shooter or 1st person shooter. Most of the Duke Nukem video games are vary difficult to complete without cheating, especially Duke Nukem Zero Hour and Time To kill. He's my favorite action hero.

I  posted the Duke Nukem 3D photo but just so you guys know there is more then just Duke Nukem 3D out there to play.

6. Estelle Bright

I absolutely love the Legend of Heroes series and think she has some of the best character growth in JRPGs I've played.

Thought I would throw this one out there as I'm sure many would easily overlook this. It's hard not to mention him without giving partial spoilers to the game but I will try. He's really just an NPC you encounter but his involvement in the story was very touching. Dealing with grief and a lot of bitter feelings, he's sadly a tortured soul but and encounter with Eike (Lead character) allows him to let go of such feelings. During a conversation he reveals his guilt and its of of the most touching dialogues I've heard in any form of media - if anything I will leave you with the quotation:

23. Squall Leonheart - Final Fantasy VIII

I find a lot of people instantly shutdown Squall's character with the term 'emo' - But I personally think his character development is one of the best within the industry. Seeing him go from vulnerable and cold around people to gain that trust is a beautiful thing. I also like how we hear his inner thoughts to project his perspective more. One of the biggest problems with Final Fantasy VIII is lack of character development for the rest of the party members but Squall's experience makes it worth while.

Do they really count though? They were comic book characters and in television before they were ever in a video game.

Well, so were many others. They're still in videogames (a lot of videogames) so I would imagine they still count. If not, I can change it, but there are going to be quite a few characters that are enjoyed but will be ignored.
