Title: Custom Acrylic Big Box cases - Check it out!
Post by: mikefromretroboxed on December 23, 2020, 05:33:43 am
Hello fellow collectors! My name is Mike and i'm new here  :)
As a big box collector, I was faced with the dilemma of how to protect and secure my most expensive exhibits. There is no ideal solution when it comes to storing big boxes due to the different sizes of each game. So I made RetroBoxed - a project that tries to solve this problem in a perfect way.

I produce laser-cut cases made of transparent Plexiglas, tailored specifically to your game - I take dimensions from the client and create a case perfectly suited to it.
Each box can be engraved with developer logo or any custom text.
Price is $24 for standard to medium sized boxes, but i can deliver anything you like (even a triangle box for Day of the Tentacle!)

Those look pretty nice! How do they open and close? Or do people have to ship their item to you so you can do a one time seal?

Also curious about how much postage to Australia would be. I've got a boxed copy of the Neverhood and a couple fat PS1 games I'm considering sealing up.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words!
My boxes has a sliding cover (or floor, if you want) - check the photo with Prince of Persia - it has a cover removed.
My intention was to make protection boxes, in which games can be easy stored and pulled out. There is a small space (2-3mm on each side), so the game box doesn't wobble inside, yet it's safe.
I use original Plexiglas from Germany, which have also a anti-uv capabilities.

As for shipping, it's not that bad, to AUS is about 18 USD, but everything is dependent on weight. I always calculate shipping on the fly.

Please elaborate!
I am a collector myself, would like to hear any opinion, even if it mixes my cases with trash  :)

Mike, I'm in love with your work!

As a big box PC collector myself, there's VERY FEW options to protector our treasured cardboard :), so I thank you my man!

Will you be offering any cheaper options in the future?  Something less sturdy, but more affordable, similar to the many options available now for console games.

Keep up the great work, and look forward to seeing what you whip up in the future

I can't really think of any games I'd want to be put into a box like that. Maybe the Panzer Dragoon.

What I can think of is OS and software boxes.

It's because your first post is trying to sell something.  It's thoughtful enough, and they look nice, but that sort of thing is frowned upon here.

Thank you alot for your kind words!
I started making acrylic boxes, as this is a material and hardware i use on daily basis (plexi glass and CO2 laser) - those cheaper solutions are made of thin PMMA (similar to water bottles) and i think there are many sellers doing those (maybe not custom sized..)

Price is calculated according to few important factors, which are:
- you get a custom box sized just for your game,
- i only make my cases with original Plexiglas from Germany https://www.plexiglas.de/en/products/plexiglas/plexiglas-gs-xt
- which is UV resistant,
- and can be engraved (you can engrave anything you want on your box, from developer logo to your own custom text) - check my pictures!
- gluing one box takes aprox. 40 minutes
- and is a PAIN
- ofcourse i have to pay for laser, materials etc.

BUT there are discounts for larger orders, there will be SALES with price lowered etc. So i think you can get my case cheaper in near future  ;)

Stay safe,
Mike from RetroBoxed

I saw this post with rules: https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10628.0.html

And there is nothing about offering nice solution, on topic, for forum members.

Sure, i reserve this solution for my preciousss and most expensive boxes only! Or those i want to put on a stand, and display nicely.

What software and OS you have in mind? I made a box for old  Photoshop Big Box not so long ago.

It has been a clear-cut stipulation since the beginning:

If you're only signing up to sell stuff then you're not welcome here. (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,5314.msg70130.html#msg70130)

If the rule clearly states that someone who makes an account solely for the sake of peddling their wares isn't "welcomed", then I think said rule should be put into effect when someone comes in just to do that—no exceptions.

I'm a collector myself, so i plan to stay a little longer than on one-sellin-post - but I appreciate boards where members stay on guard of rules! Thanks!

I think it's doable, but downside would be a necessity of sending them to me first. Those irregular shapes make it rather impossible for me to measure, and plan a box without having in 'on hand'

If that's the case, then perhaps it would've been a far more thoughtful approach to register, become a part of the community, which wouldn't have taken long, and then start selling. Just because you're a collector like us and what-have-you doesn't really add anything to the fact. Not trying to give you a hard time or anything, but the rules are there for a reason. Mods around here tend to flip-flop more than a fish out of water, though, so I might as well be talking to the wind.

Another thing that occurs to me is that you could've also contacted one of the admins first, pitch your sale and go from there. Not that it makes a difference now anyway, but just saying.

I dont mind measuring stuff for you if it helps.

That would be ok, but im afraid of boxes like this: https://vgcollect.com/item/26713
Where you have a box, and stuff coming out of it - there is a high probability of an error...
Would need alot of real photos with measurements on them.

Fair enough. If you think you could make them though, Id give you all the measurements you want.
