Found this N64 cartridge at a Thrift Store today.

Does anybody know if this is the cartridge that would've been inside the Pokémon Snap Stations at Blockbuster Video??

Technically from February but w/e

PS1
Final Fantasy Tactics - Case is cracked, but whatever. Was never sure if I wanted to play the PSP version or the PS1 version, but it appears fate decided for me haha
Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire - I found out this game just doesn't work on PS3 which is a bummer. Just means I'll have to wait until I have my PS2 on hand again

PS2
Resident Evil Code Veronica X

I don't have much to show off this month, but that's because I went for bust on this beast.
(https://scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/154695990_10165766727170643_2822262228958839689_o.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=3&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=D_qLQ2k7F4AAX-gvEj1&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-2.xx&oh=4673a158344e4b5ab11107197ab81736&oe=60666160)

It still has plenty of room in it's belly for upgrades, can play VR like Half-Life Alex with no stutter, and has a liquid cooling system.  It is the largest, most powerful, and most expensive Gaming PC I've ever had.  I fear it gaining sentience any minute now...

I also played King's Quest III on it last night.  That's how I roll.

Getting my tax return in a week or so and I decided to pull the trigger on finally buying myself an Everdrive for my Sega Game Gear. Looks like the newer X7 model performs how one would hope it would without the constant load times for each ROM. I can't wait to finally get one.

I love these things so much. They've really quenched my desire to buy more retro games for the most part.

Went to an awesome collectors meetup over the weekend and bought a bunch of stuff as usual. Some games, but mostly consoles that range in condition from being immaculate, to to ones that just don't work. Both PS1s are getting Xstations and PS1digitals installed, the white Dreamcast is being completely transformed, but I'm debating on what to do with the Sega Sports Dreamcast on account they're pretty hard to find (I'll probably leave that one alone for now). All the GBAs work, but their all in poor cosmetic shape; they're all getting reshelled and fully modded accept one which will be fully consolized at some point. Gameboy Color does not work, but it's getting repairs and screen modded. The N64 works great, but I'll be doing an UltraHDMI and universal cart slot mod on this one at some point. And then finally the NES Top Loader does not work at all, but I plan on repairing and RGB modding it in the near future.

Sometimes you can actually buy a modded NA PS1 that plays Japanese games just like one of my relatives has. do you know if those either of those 2 PlayStation 1 consoles can play Japanese games? Sometimes when you buy something used you don't know it's history, unless the seller says something. Sometimes not even the seller knows. This is a longshot but it is somewhat possible

There are region free mods for various consoles that employe region protection, but the thing is with most of these mods is that they're dependent on the disc drives which are all quite old at this point and failing constantly. There has been a massive breakthrough though pertaining to this issue which not only eliminates the need for disc drives, but also for region free mod ships and whatnot. ODEs or Optical Disc Emulators replace the console's disc drive entirely and instead use a SATA connection or SD card reader to place disc images off storage media like an SD card or SSD instead of a disc. This is huge since 20-30 years from now it might be extremely hard to find a functioning PS1 or Saturn, and ODEs ensure that people will still be able to play games on them long after the drives fail or the games become unplayable due to disc rot and damage. It really is the future of disc based retro gaming imo.

On top of that there are other future proofing mods that will go into many of these like HDMI output, updated internal batteries, and recapping the main board and PSU. And for the record, I do not throw away any working device or component that is removed from the console. I will definitely be holding onto any working disc drives in the event someone needs one or if one in one of my consoles fails.

But hopefully that answers your question.

Amazon listed New Super Mario U Deluxe and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $60.  I bought the set, sold Mario Kart for $45 and ended up with the Switch version of New Super Mario U for about $18 after taxes.

Also, thanks to jason and VGCollect as a whole, I won the Analouge Mini NT Noir, which now sits proudly at the front of my shelf.

Oh, and Wally World had Owlboy on clearance today!

Pillars of Eternity II - Deadfire was $10 at Wal-Mart.  It has a disc, but it has a steam code and you need Steam to play - but it was still 1/4 the cost on Steam!

One notable thing I've found so far this month is the Hong Kong release of a Game Boy game called Super Chinese Land 3. I didn't even know Nintendo released Game Boy games in Hong Kong and China back in the mid/late 90s. I posted a few pictures of it on my twitter

Sadly, I'm not getting my Everdrive for Game Gear any time soon. As I was waiting for the tax return to hit, I've since discovered that the government fired much of the IRS staff the last couple months during tax season and then added the stimulus onto an already massive workload. Gotten communication that they may have it figured out sometime this summer. That's American government for you.... dumb as a bunch of rocks.

Not a game purchase but is related to playing so I guess it's ok, found a Samsung Crystal 4K UHD 55" Smart Tv for only 10,000 which is like 500 bucks, managed to get it for 12 months without interest and only gotta say that's is so damn awesome, playing Smash and being able to see Pyra, Mytra and Bayonetta in full HD is so orgasmic, my wife don't think the same but since she is taking control of the TV most of the time because of Fitness Boxing she can complain about my waifus  ;D

I always file my taxes as soon as I get my W2 in January and this year it really worked out. My taxes were filed and sent off before the 3rd stimulus was passed so I was able to get my federal refund fast. Even still, it was delayed until February 12th or something like that because of how backlogged they were. They literally need quadruple the employees they had pre-2020 to handle the amount of money they're throwing at people these days.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Yesterday, I got a good deal for a Playstation 5 (Disc version).  I paid an extra hundred than what it would have cost at retail, but that's a far cry from the thousand they ask for on eBay.  Now, assuming he wasn't scamming me, it should get here by Monday :)

Happy birthday, indeed.

Congrats and here's hoping your birthday snag is legit. Welcome to the club.

I recommend taking a look on the Playstation app and seeing if you can redeem the free Destruction All Stars (if you have Plus) now for your PS5 before it goes away next month.

They literally need quadruple the employees they had pre-2020 to handle the amount of money they're throwing at people these days.

Sometimes I wish I was still living in an insular bubble and agreeing with/making comments like this. Life was so much easier when things like a global fucking pandemic causing the most widespread economic devastation in our lifetimes personally affecting whether or not millions get to keep their jobs and homes didn't make me feel as bitter as the government giving everybody a (very small) handout in order to help them survive said catastrophe.

Whoa! I'm sorry if I offended you. My comment wasn't a criticism of the government giving people stimulus checks, it was just addressing the need to hire more people to handle this, getting people their tax refunds, as well as the millions of other things the IRS, Treasury, and federal government have to handle. People can use all the help they can get right now. I didn't mean anything else by it.

Blame the government officials who make specious decisions, and their mouthpieces in the media for stoking the flames of fear, for all the pandemic-related lockdowns and resulting economic collapse.

Don’t blame a poster who simply commented that things are terrible at the IRS for a problem (economic shutdown, then stimulus checks) of their own government’s making.

lol what would you have done differently in March 2020 if you were in charge? Keep carrying on business as usual and ignore scientists and medical professionals while the bodies keep piling up? Everyone who contracts the virus and dies from it deserves it for not being healthy and young enough, right?

My apologies for coming off *a bit* hostile, I was grumpy from not having my lunch yet when I posted that.

The phrasing of "throwing money" implies irresponsible and wasteful spending. And saying something like that seems like an invitation of discussion, even though now it's apparent that probably wasn't your intention. My guess is you were just small talking with another forum member and you typed that without giving it a second thought.

I feel like the very common American anti-government sentiments are kept alive from little quips like that on message boards or Twitter comments or your uncle ranting at the dinner table or whatever. Not from people actually reading the Economist and really looking into the issue. People just saying things like "the goddamn DMV sucks, the government can't do anything right!!!" while living off of social security checks and happily driving on public roads.

So giving defense contractors, big corporations, and banks, welfare while giving individuals a few grand after locking them in their houses for a year is not "throwing money" away.

Giving the people a measly few grand to spend that money to survive is not wasteful.

The defense contractors, big corporations, and banks who spent millions lobbying to line the pockets of politicians and influence voters to give the upper 1% their bail outs and tax cuts are indeed the ones throwing money.

The few grand is just cover for the 1% to get their corporate welfare.

I don't know what your profession is, but I assume it has to do with hay, 'cuz you clearly enjoy making strawmen.  :)

I never once suggested anything you're accusing me of, so I have no need to defend myself. I was, however, trying to direct your anger where it should be, instead of misplacing it towards an unsuspecting poster in a videogame collecting thread.

Had you bothered to ask instead of assume what my position might be, you might have learned something. As it is, if you want to keep throwing stones and acting snarky, I'm more than willing to throw it right back at you. Cheers, mate.

Ending the month with a few import titles:

GB (JP):
Pokemon Green

N64 (JP):
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party 3
Pokemon Stadium 2

I wasn't lucky enough to get any CIB ones this time around, but I can't complain when I only paid around 10-15 bucks apiece for them.
