Use this thread to post duplicate items in the database so that DB staff can merge or remove the entries.
Post the name of the item that is duplicated, along with the links to each of the items.
Once you have made your post, do not edit it later to add content. Make a new reply if possible or save all of the items you want to post for one post. Editing your post to add new content can cause a problem if a DB admin is actively working in this thread.
After a dupe post has been processed, a DB admin will use the Strikeout text effect on the duplicate links, so that you and we know that the report has been looked at.

Can't find a general European release for Apache: Air Assault / Cover art wouldn't match any releases, so users most likely have a variety of the 3 variants listed.

I don't know if this is a duplicate but thought I would address the issue here:
Is there a difference between PlayStation Network (PS3) [EU] & PSone Classics [EU] I'm guessing this is just for PS3 PSN games and the other is PS1 games that can also go on Vita?
Regardless, the PSN version for Final Fantasy VI is listed on both catagories and that means there is two listings for the same item... I actually got trigger by this from seeing the PSN version having the wrong cover art :P
https://vgcollect.com/item/132911
https://vgcollect.com/item/75537
Then there is Final Fantasy V:
The PS1 version of FFV was released only as part of the FF Anthology, there isn't a seperate release for it. Either people who own only the disc for this release should state so on their notes of the Collection page or This listing should be noted as a loose disc.

Appears to be the same item, front box from 161775 is correct.
Yes/no. 33605 is considered the UK version and it is correct. The front art is a stock photo which is ok
161775 was created as [ES][IT] back at a time when people weren't aware that there are very few games that can use that TLD combination, or that IT games are just ES games with a SIAE label on them. So there are still some of these incorrect entries in the database. It was also from a time where people made entries using TLD not based on where the game was released, but what flags or what languages were on the item.
So for here, from what I can tell at this time, UK and ES got the same game, and IT has that game but with a label. So the UK version is fine but the other just becomes IT version. Of course, Spain might have their own game but I can't find that info. Things that can make an ES version would be some country specific label on a sealed item or if it came with a Spanish manual or additional insert. On the sales sites, it is rare to be able to see a picture of inside of the manual and most of the time people don't keep the random inserts.

These are not dupes, the have a different back cover. I cannot confirm the back cover for the first one. I looked on ML and the only one with the label has no back picture and none of the loose copies have this back cover. Since Dhaabi made it, he will have to determine if there is an error on the first entry or not.

They are duplicates. When I submitted 204680, I mistakenly added the back cover art for Resident Evil 6 (https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-1781884865-resident-evil-6-ps4-midia-fisica-usado-_JM#position=38&search_layout=grid&type=item&tracking_id=037f3860-ba30-45de-a5be-7d6434d20e4a).

The game comes in a cardboard box twice wider as usual Japanese GameCube games. This wider box actually contains two usual cases, one for each disc of the game.
The cardboard box is shown in the second listing; the first listing shows one of both the inner cases (both almost identical, except for the mention Disc 1 or Disc 2 on the lower blue band, here undecipherable due to low quality, but clearly spottable when you know what to look for).
Here what the whole looks like:

Just for clarity, the two cases bundled in the "complete box" version (entry name needs updating) have two other noteworthy differences. The first—and most obvious—difference is that the back cover art for each is unique (https://auctions.c.yimg.jp/images.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/image/dr000/auc0112/users/de98c23fca092c7e43d81822466a5cab85542f66/i-img1200x850-1608908304s3nzwp1525587.jpg). The second difference is found in the front item number. The Disc 1 cover features item number GS-DOL-GKBJ-JPN, whereas the Disc 2 cover features item number GS-DOL-GKBJ-JPN(A).

Yep, one last difference is the background color of the covers; for Disc 1 it’s a greenish/blueish white, while for Disc 2 it’s a pinkish white.
Still, they’re both part of a same package and I don’t think it makes sense to keep the two items linked above split.
May I have to update anyone of them before they get merged?
-
Based on our community's vote (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,11218.0.html), pack-in games from games or game packs are permitted to have their own entry pages if separate packaging is used. So, that means individual pages for the "complete box" version, Disc 1 case, and Disc 2 case can all exist.
-
I don’t think the community’s vote apply; there’s this sentence at the end of the first post:
NOTE: None of these options would allow for loose or individually packaged stand-alone games from within regular packaging (such as an edition box) to have a separate entry. This is only to be regarding instances where more than 1 game exists within a single package.
As Baten Kaitos: Owaranai Tsubasa to Ushinawareta Umi is one and only one stand-alone game (on two discs, but still one game: starting a new game from Disc 2 will prompt you to swap it with Disc 1), I think this is a case where no dupe is admitted.
If I am wrong though, there’s still the question of the naming. IMHO I find it preposterous to specify “ - Complete Box” for the complete game rather than “ - Disc #” when the cardboard box & the other disc are missing.

Given how our database treats entries as physical items rather than games (ie. game data), I'm assuming the wording you're quoting implies the former. However, we'll have to wait and see for how tripredacus responds, given that they're the one who drafted the voting poll.
-
That ruling is only applicable to pack-in games. This one you are posting about is an entirely separate situation and doesn't apply to that. Because as you are showing, the internal components (boxes) are not 2 games, but they are 2 discs.
A similar situation for this would be The Pandora Directive, which has an outer box and inside are 2 jewel cases because the game has 6 discs. The two jewel cases inside are not allowed separate entries, just the main box. So this Gamecube game should only have an entry for the outer box and not the individual boxes that are inside. In the description you put the info for all the stuff inside the box.
-
I just provided edits for the oldest entry to update the arts and fill in the blanks, along with a description of the content as requested.
I guess if and once this gets accepted, both entries can be merged then?

It is done. I had to correct the title and alt before the merge.
-
It is done. I had to correct the title and alt before the merge.
May I ask why you kept the title with the “complete box” mention? For the only version of the game I would assume the title alone is enough.
That is the case at least for The Pandora Directive, to consider your aforementioned example.

That is what it is called. We do not create entries for games but for products. So if the game has that name, it should be on there. It doesn't matter if there are no other releases. It can seem weird sometimes like when games get their first print under a budget series.
-
As it relates to GameFAQs entry, fair enough.
(Though they’re wrong about classifying the product as a compilation, so who knows about the name? :P )

The Complete Box pack name was removed since it was found to not be on the item itself.

Pack name must reflect text on the item itself. If it doesn't have the text then a descriptor is used.

My cache wasn't updated for the new box art I submitted two days ago when browsing Skylanders, so I accidentally made a duplicate NA listing for Echo. When I check the wayback machine though, it shows the same artwork I submitted except dated all the way back to 2015. Don't know what's up with that. I'm pretty sure the original Echo listing had EU artwork before I changed it so I submitted a bunch of edits changing it back to EU.

Not a good practice to edit dupes into other things. Best to just create the missing thing as a new item.

I put on the Final Fantasy XVI Pre-order Steelbook and a duplicate has been made:
Original - https://vgcollect.com/item/247670
Duplicate - https://vgcollect.com/item/247676
I see the Duplicate has details on being sealed with a sticker but that seems hardly necessary to have two listings of the same item.
Also, I posted an image of the inside on my listing whcih has been removed, I have re-posted it and don't see why it shouldn't be there.

Unless 247670 shares the same barcode label, the two entries are not the same. I could not confirm any sealed copies online, however. There are plenty of entries within the database which the only difference relates to labels, and these separate items are no different.
Do not submit artwork of a game case's interior without a disc. It has never been allowed. Even with a disc, those kind of images are low quality. Do not repeatedly submit edits after they have been given reason for rejection.
From the Item Images post (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10837.msg177804.html#msg177804) of the style guide:
Cart art slot for physical Games, Consoles and Accessories
The third art slot, refered to as "cart-art" or cart/disc/item, must be of game or item iteself and not include additional items in the picture. For example, an add-on for a console should not also show the console. A game should show the cart, disk or disc image and not additional packaging. If there are multiple discs, they can be present. Discs should not be shown in the case, but on their own. Image quality rules prevail, we will allow a low quality image if being used as proof of existance.
-
Before we had a Steelbooks catagory, I thought that made sense. But now we have a seperate catagory for Steelbooks alone wouldn't it make sesne to display the interiror if it featured unique artwork? Because if the disc for the game was inclulded it would be a certain Edition not just a steelbook and wouldn't be in this catagory.
As for the barcode, none of the GAME Steelbooks came sealed, I watched the colleague at GAME open a box of them and none of them were sealed but it is the same item and does not need 2 listings.

Until some specific rule is agreed upon for that type of image submission being allowed as an exception to the Steelbooks sub-category, they should not be submitted and be reported for removal, if found.
I had the presumption the EU copies were all unsealed since eBay UK lists numerous entries, all loose. Whether you believe the item should only have one entry is your opinion, but both entries will remain because they are not the same.
-
It is wrong, some GAME steelbooks do have a seal with just a barcode label. It is possible they are overstock items that GAME later sells on their own, I don't know the difference.

You provided a generic entry without artwork. If there are differences that were unbeknownst to me, then provide some kind of discerning information to other fields like Item Number, Barcode, and Description to avoid issues like this. If you know there is already an existing entry, providing some kind of entry name descriptor to at least one of the two entries should also be done instead of naming them the same.

I submitted artwork, but it showed up as no image, so I resubmitted a new image.
I never submit any other info in fields because ya'll always erase it or say it's wrong.
The entry with the slipcover should have the descriptor, not the standard entry
It's pretty irresponsible to delete/merge entries without doing research, this is a huge reason why the site should have a method of notifying users when items in their collection have been deleted/merged.

Don't have to put that much thought into it. Any entry in PC Digital Download that does not have in Description where the game is from, will get merged with the same release that is in a named PC digital category (Steam, Epic, Gog)

The only difference between the two items seems to be that one released with a slipcover as the outer layer. Since most DB staff do not own the items they are responding edits to, they must rely on available online resources such as classified listings which extremely limits our research capability. With that acknowledged, anyone would agree that not all eBay listings sell complete items. For the existing eBay listings, any one of them which does not include the slipcover could simply be listed incomplete. The keepcases seem to be the same, but I can't really verify that information due to the limited number of ongoing listings. Additionally, the item pages on Limited Run Games's and Amazon's websites feature stock art and routinely do not provide valuable information for our purposes.
Like I said, one of the two entries at minimum should be given an entry name descriptor. So, if a new entry is submitted, 220787 should probably be given a (slipcover) descriptor. Like I said, submitting generic entries like this only creates problems. Contrary to what you may believe, staff do not replace or remove objective information like Item Number and Barcode details.
For any who are submitting entries for items they own, they obviously have the most information available to them. While it is DB staff's duties to verify edit submission information to the best of their abilities, it should not be expected of them to supply it.
-
Best practice, don't make an entry with the same name as one that already exists. Even if you have to use a descriptor of some sort, it can be temporary and may end up being changed. Make sure to type something in description if there is something different. It will prevent something like this happening in the future.
Also, usually if there is some other entry that needs to be changed before making a new entry, I wait until that is done before making the new one. For someone who has to wait on an edit, you can make a post in Listing Errors saying that x item needs to be changed in some way because you want to make a new entry. Such as, existing entry has just a title but needs a descriptor added, and the entry you want to make doesn't need to have a descriptor.

I have also updated the entry name for the slipcover release (https://vgcollect.com/item/220787) to Unpacking (slipcover) since there were two entries in the sub-cat named "Unpacking."

As for naming the entry, the game was only released in Europe, seemingly somehow partly paid for by Mercedes Benz, and as far as I know there is only two versions of the game, this german/french one and a UK one (see here for instance: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304898421533)

Many older entries feature incorrect stock art, so that is something to consider before submitting new entries. Because 87750 already detailed EAN information, I updated the field with the correct art to match that specific item. The previous image featured a yellow USK rating only which does not exist, as you mentioned.

Duly noted. I guess that means that when front art image & EAN are inconsistent, then the EAN prevails?
Is there any sort of hierarchical list of entry fields somewhere to know what prevails on what? (say, in the absence of EAN, what prevails next? Is EAN the utmost truth about an item when no pic comes with said EAN? If not, what is then? The item number? Something else?)
Besides, do you want me to update the first entry fields before dealing with the dupe?

It depends on the specific circumstance. Most times in these sorts of situations, entries will be submitted without barcode information but front art, only to be supplied with the former later by another member. In the past, staff did not make a strong effort in verifying information, which is why many older entries have conflicting information. I believe this is not so much of an issue now, but I can only attest to how I personally handle the edit queue. For every edit I respond to, I verify that information to my best ability. There are few instances when I can't verify barcode information, but it happens from time to time, so those edits will be approved blindly. Then, there are instances like with 87750 which the artwork is simply wrong that is still a problem because we allow stock art to be submitted.
Generally, when entries with conflicting entries are discovered, the end result depends on which information is oldest. So, any information that is original to the entry is certainly best. There are times when even originally-submitted information can be conflicting in itself which slightly complicates the issue, but that isn't that often.
When no other discerning details are available, objective information such as what's found in the Barcode field will determine the entry's identity.
You do not necessarily need to update other entries before submitting a new one. But, if there is reason to believe that something is in error, it's best to question it in the Error Listings topic (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,12136.0.html) so that staff can look into it. The reported duplicate entry will be handled by an Admin since it's been reported here, which is likely to be done tomorrow.

The items are not duplicates. First, both the US and CA items feature the same front artwork which has not been changed regarding 11239. Since we do not know what back art or barcode was originally attached to the entry—if any at all—we must look at the entry history to determine what the entry actually is. The earliest history relates to the CA release, with a later US back art edit having been approved afterward in error. So, for a time, the entry was a mixed entry. I've removed the back art, so 11239 is now correct. Whether it was originally intended to represent the CA regional variant, we will never know, but it now correctly represents the CA variant based on the information we do know.

I created one for the oval seal variant - was not sure how to name it perfectly. Also, I can't find box photos anywhere - or even USA oval seal cart too. Is this rare?

5987 and 251677 are two separate items. I'm sure that, if we were to compare each of the items' contents, there would be differences beyond the box packaging as well. There are other variant entries like 251677 found in the EU category, such as 252017 (https://vgcollect.com/item/252017).
The entry name for 253251 is fine as it is. If it's ever determined what kind of packaging it was bundled with, the entry name could change over time, though. It is not rare, although it is less common. I've found five or so copies of it on eBay's first page of results.
On that note, I've identified five unique cartridges:
circle label (https://www.ebay.com/itm/166314882530)
circle label / REV-A (https://www.ebay.com/itm/235174765419)
circle label / REV-A / 24 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/355018074628)
oval label / REV-A / 24 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/134710471465)
oval label / REV-A / 12 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/256070601624)
Also, something I've just learned is that REV-A cartridges are three-screw cartridges which have replaced the five-screw cartridge design.

Thank you dhaabi for confirming. Glad it was titled correctly (for now). Appreciate the help.

Not sure if dupes or what but these two entries seem fishy:
https://vgcollect.com/item/98489
https://vgcollect.com/item/220666
The arts seem strictly the same, and although the quality cannot appreciate the barcode, the first entry’s one seems to match the spanish version of the game, and not a french, dutch, or belgian one.

Saw this just listed, we already have multiple listings for this in different EU regions. This listing doesn't state ANY region or details to identify it so I'm not sure it is needed:

I've gone ahead and removed these two entries. This is the second time I've merged the entries into the existing ones, as the new user submitting the duplicates made a second set. The duplicate entries were submitted because the existing ones feature outdated stock art which has become more and more of an issue recently. I've explained the issue to the entry creator in a PM as to why action was taken. Duplicate entries for other games have also been submitted by them and have been merged.
They cannot. First, it is bad practice, like it was mentioned already. (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,11724.msg200585.html#msg200585) Second, there was a member already attached to the duplicate entry. Updating the entry into something else for that reason alone is disingenuous.

The 'No Limits' portion of the name is to denote the 2 versions but the duplicates listed above contain different characters, and should be de-duped. The EU versions offer I think correct examples, and the 2 above should be made consistent with it IMHO: https://vgcollect.com/item/46351 and https://vgcollect.com/item/159130

If you recognize that these two items differ from another, why are you reporting them as duplicates? Like you've said, they are two separate items, evident by Description field details and confirmed by entry art.

NA has 2 versions for original packaging while EU has 3 versions. They cannot be made consistant in the way you are thinking.
As it stands, SMS EU and NA are fully complete (sans bootlegs and Mexican versions) and no corrections need to be made to these items.
