Title: What's the weirdest/coolest/most obscure item in your collection?
Post by: gngtiger on February 15, 2022, 04:06:33 pm
I'm talking cardboard standees, promotional VHS tapes, promotional items, home-brew cartridges, whatever!

I have a Cd-i title called: Futuropolis.
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/147896

It was distributed via Dutch libraries. It doesn't seem to be very common.
It shows that what the Netherlands would look like in the future. Very cool haha

Excite Truck toy from a Wendy's kids meal promo in 2007. Not particularly rare or obscure, but pretty cool.

As far as something pretty unique and special to me, this is Shenmue picture hand signed by Yu Suzuki. As someone who adores the Shenmue series and someone whose best arcade memories from the 90s involved mostly Sega games this is more valuable to me than if I had something signed by Miyamoto.

I've still got my Super Smash Bros. Brawl retail displayer. I use it to store my "currently playing" games.

Also used to have an entire Xbox 360 retail demo display kiosk, but had to get rid of it in a move. Still have some demo discs from it though, that when inserted into a 360, will convert it to a demo unit with the only way to reverse it being a complete reformatting.

Pop 'n Taisen and other rare Konami games for PS2.
Pop 'n Taisen is not specially uncommon or expensive at all, but the last time I checked up... the iso wasn't available online  or there were copies for sale besides one specific that is the one that I bought.

I should consider someday ripping the iso and submit it myself somewhere.

Wireless Genesis controllers from 30 years ago.  Got em cheap at a flea market.  Never seen anyone else talk about them, etc.

I was able to purchase the promotional keychain (https://vgcollect.com/item/175416) still sealed for one of my favorite games Chulip about two years ago for $10. It's fairly uncommon, as the game itself was exclusive to GameStop and didn't sell well, and the keychain was only available when pre-ordering the game. I'm glad I was able to buy it when I did, as other listings have since sold for more than $50.

Another interesting item I own is a promotional PlayStation Vita drink koozie (https://vgcollect.com/item/193413) that was gifted to me from a friend. Apparently the campaign had set locations where promotional events were held in addition to the campaign at times touring to major populated areas such as college campuses which is where the item I possess was originally acquired.

I have two things that probably meet the criteria.

1. Everdrive X7 GG -- Sega Game Gear's flash cart that holds every game in the library plus SMS games.

2. Playstation Underground PS1 Mag -- It's the first if not one of the first issues from Playstation Underground that came on a CD and was viewed on your actual Playstation. You could watch interviews, see trailers and play demos right off the "magazine disc". A cool feature was that there were hidden videos that you could watch if you found out what the code was. Luckily, I was pretty good at figuring out button combos and found a trailer for what is now known as Resident Evil 1.5. I had found the trailer before what we know as Resident Evil 2 had released so you can imagine my surprise at the change. I still have this "issue" in my collection.

I'm not really an obscure item collector, but one of my favourite things in the collection is my ps1 ex rental case.

I don’t really collect obscure things, but I think this might qualify:

Back in 1999 I worked at Software Etc and the store was sent a free box of promotional items. I ended up with a pack of paintable metal tabletop gaming figurines based on Gauntlet Legends. At the time I didn’t really care (not a tabletop gamer), but now I’m glad to have them because I love Legends’ sequel/update Dark Legacy so much.

My most obscure item in my collection is a bit difficult to think of. It would be either a Primal Rage trophy figure or XaviX Tennis.

My weirdest item would have to be a Sega Game Gear "GG Checker" cartridge. I should probably try to get a good picture of it sometime for the site.

I'm not sure what I'd say is the coolest thing in my collection. Closest thing I can think of isn't even a video game; it's a Roulette game made by Nintendo back in the mid-1960s.

All that comes to mind are a Pac-Man hacky sack ball (https://vgcollect.com/item/128205) and power pellet rolling ball (https://vgcollect.com/item/129845) that I won at a Time-Out arcade ages ago. They bring about many pleasant memories, so their sentimental value is awfully high.

My weirdest item is a bowling pin that was given away as a first prize trophy. I think the contest was held at funcoland  for a bowling game.

My coolest item is my dreamcast kiosk.

Most obscure item I think would be my Jill Stuart Sweet Limited Package Psp from Japan I never even heard of it until I found one.
