Title: Johnny Depp Or Leonardo Dicaprio?
Post by: marvelvscapcom2 on April 23, 2022, 08:33:04 pm
Hello Everyone :)

I will leave Johnny Depp's trial semantics out of this, even if it is the current hot button topic, but this is the battle of titans, the two greatest actors of the 21st century, both with 10 epic movies or more under their belts facing off in the battle of the oscar snubbed legends of the big screen.

Johnny Depp's body of work

Pirates Of The Carribean - A multi Billion dollar franchise with pokey bois with rum habits who love to sail the high seas in mission of obtaining badassery. Johnny Depp is charismatic, eccentric, and debatebly at his finest in these movies in terms of acting prowess.

Edward Scissorhands - To sell the meloncholy wholesale in a way the view can find palpable is difficult but the man is almost a living Tim Burton illustration, he fills the part but the part merely fills him. It becomes him. It is like art in motion.

Donnie Brasco - Proving Johnny can step out into a more serious and held back role, someone more real to life, obtainable and realistic to a real world. Proving that he can act more than just eccentric characticutures.

Leonardo's body of work

Titanic - Daveeer, elegant, the only actor who can make poor look so classy, that can make gutter rats look like pedigree pomeranian dog, he captures the artist love story in ways only he could and he was so young and in his acting infancy while he was doing it.  It is obvious a classic.

Django Unchained - Taking the role of a racist enslaver can't be easy but to make it believable? It is one of his best acting achivements.

Romeo And Juliet - His command of Shakespear dialogue, giving a story that is historic a twist without breaking it's literary pelvis is something he handles well. Probably the greatest on screen Romeo of all time.

Consensus

I feel Johnny Depp could stretch himself to play Jack Dawson, maybe young Depp especially, but can I see Leonardo stretching himself to play the mad hatter or literally a british carmeleon?  Between accents and range, he covers so much. I feel he might be just a bit more versatile as an actor :)

Who do you think is better. Johnny Depp Or Leonardo Dicaprio?

Thanks for sharing

Great topic... I've always been a bigger fan of Leo. Now don't get me wrong, Johnny is a fantastic actor, and I really need to go back and watch his gigantic catalog of movies. Leo's movies just tend to be very reflective, introspective, and relatable to me.  Honestly the two need to make another movie, it's been almost 30 years since Gilbert Grape...Holy shit I'm old!

Johnny Depp was definitely a better actor to me when he was younger, I absolutely love Edward Scissorhands. I never really liked DiCaprio (or Brad Pitt) until I saw Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. These days though, I think both are terrific actors, and I'd pretty much watch absolutely anything they are in.

Back in college I knew someone that often would remind me of Johnny Depp given his fashion sense, mannerisms and way of handling himself, not to mention his spot-on impersonation of Jack Sparrow.

As for the topic, they're both good; their movies don't usually have the same tonality, so I like them both equally.

While I'd say Leonardo Dicaprio had an overall more balanced career (consistent quality) he didn't really make anything mind blowing and of his notable perfomances those movies usually didn't age all that well in the current era.

Johnny Depp most of his roles while good where not that notable or bad for my taste, he however hit a homerun with pirates of the Caribean as captain jack sparrow that roles suits him excellently.

Pirates series alone gives Johnny Depp the win by a landslide. He has created something legendary that will bring fun to even future generations it's timeless.

Pirates of the Caribean when it arrived in them cinema's it's pretty much a must watch, it is within the upper tier of high budget movies. It's up there with LOTR, Harry potter Terminator 2. also just like LOTR it ain't a movie that ages as the years go on. It's very well done and it could pass for current gen movies and if where being honest it looks better than most movies made today. I don't see this one aging in terms of bad CGI. So many even high budget movies such as even the newer starwars the CGI looks to fake/bad. that won't look great in the future and it even shows while it's still new.

We haven't had movies of that tier in them past couple of years which is a true shame. If you haven't seen a pirates movie your missing out it's some of the best stuff out there that's come out of Hollywood.

I do really hope the guy wins his case, it's a true shame we haven't had a new Pirates movie thanks to it. There seems to be some progress in his favor though so fingers crossed.

That's a spicy meatball.
