Title: The Pay It Forward Thread
Post by: soera on May 12, 2012, 10:29:33 pm
I now have 4 of them. I know a few people here wanted one ... So Im going to let 2 of them go. Let me know if you want one. Im not looking for profit or anything, just want to hook up a few people on here.

These came with pre-order through GameStop correct?

I have effectivly bought my last game from them anyway.  The deal with Xenoblade pissed me off to no end.

Yeah but a lot of people didnt pick up their book. I go shopping for skylanders all the time and one of my stops is Gamestop so when Im in there, I just ask for a book. A lot of times I get "We are out" but so far Ive scored 4 of them. :)

soera, so considerate of you!  I'd have jumped on this offer as well if I didn't snag one for $5 myself.  I'll keep asking around at my Gamestops in case they still have one floating around.

It isn't that I didn't get my book, I didn't get my game either.  I pre-ordered my copy at the tail end of February, paid in full mind you.  Well the weekend it came out I had to pull a double overtime shift at the factory, and I couldnt make the 70 mile trip to go get it.  So when I called on Monday (when I remembered) to see if they still had my copy, they said "no" they only hold pre-orders for 48 hours.  Since it came out on Friday, and I spent everyday of the weekend working 12 hour shifts, I was out $50.  I did buy it again, sans artbook but I will never set foot inside that store again.

If you didnt get your game, they should have at least refunded your money. Thats crap if they didnt. I know anytime I didnt pick up a pre-order or I cancelled, they refunded the cash or put it toward something else. If I get another book, Ill let ya know. I seem to get pretty lucky with them. I know the 2 places I got these last 2 have at least one more. Ill probably try to send the stepson in there to snag one up tomorrow.

That suuuuucks.  I know they have that 48-hour hold policy, but every store I went to or called was giving all of their Xenoblade reserve copies about a week instead and a courtesy call and everything.  I think especially since the release was on a Friday, counting the weekend is a bit unfair.  Sorry to hear it, man...

Yeah, I think if anything, they might try to keep the $5 if you put that down for the pre-order earlier, but I'm hoping they didn't keep your $50.

I agree, if they didn't refund you then that's a load of crap. I'd ask to speak to the DM.

West Plains, Missouri is where the place is located.  Nope, no refund.  I don't care they can keep it.  They can consider it payback when I dropped off that copy of .hack//Mutation that I knew didn't work for making me pay 70 dollars for Y's: The Ark of Napishtam, especially when it was marked at 19.99, or trading in 8 PS2 games to buy one $17.99 PS2 game and still having to pay $17.45 for it.  Or when I paid $60 for the Tekken 6 LE and didn't get the game, they wanted to keep the extras in exchange for a used copy that had a $7.99 price tag on it.  No refunding the difference.  When I took it back to get it corrected.

Now that I look at it that place has been boning me hardcore.  Didn't even bother with a cheap dinner or a crappy movie.  At least a damn reach around guys, come on.   >:(

Yeah, I'm done with that hole.

You just get the run around if you do that.

Anywho, lets end the anger and hate that GameStop rightfully deserves.  TO focus on the really awesome thing soera did for a few luck individuals on here.

Damn, that sounds like the devil's Gamestop. It does sound like you have been getting gang raped over and over by that place. I would have stopped going in there after the first session. Best Buy sounds like they would have been a much better place for your gaming needs.

Thanks soera, I'll be sure to pay it forward. I'm actually looking thru my extra's to see what I have that I can offer for free to someone who needs it. Actually that would be a cool thread a "Pay it forward" thread where people offer something for free and whoever get the item offer something else. Hmmm, just a thought, what does everyone else think?

I like it!

That *does* sound like it would be nice.

I often pre-order multiple copies of certain LE's...and I've always given away things like extra codes (where I'd have 10 codes if I pre-ordered 10 copies...and I'd never need more than 1 code for myself)...

Just found that I have an extra (2nd) copy of the paperback Disgaea (1) Manga (It's in English - "Broccoli Books"; but it reads like a Japanese Manga)...

...if anyone doesn't know that means that you "start" at the "back" of the book and start reading on the top-right of the right pages and read to the bottom-left of the"left" page.

Up for grabs for the 1st poster that's interested...

I've still got the Disgaea (1) Manga book, and today I found
"Persona Gad Guard" Anime DVD.

It's CIB (but never been used), I got it as a gift...and there's very few animes I'm interested in (and this wasn't one of them).

Anyhow, according to the back of the case it's:

- "Contains Episodes (9 - 12)",

As I've been diligently, little by little, adding my collection to the site here - I've come across several things that I either have duplicates of, don't want anymore, or have no use for/can't use.
Such is the case w/ the item that I'm now adding to the list.

It's a beautiful book in quite good condition, with lots of beautiful art-work and text...*BUT*...It's in Japanese :P
(which I don't know nearly enough of to put this book to use - which is unfortunate...since it's just so damned *Nice* :)

Anyhow, it's the Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Japanese) strategy guide.

It was made/printed in 1999 by Atlus & Kodansha Books in Japan.

I seem to remember reading here that some one(s) is fluent in (or at least knows a good amount of) Japanese...

So, If you have any interest in SMT/Persona games *and* the linguistic ability to get some use out of this guide...well then, it's yours!

Ive got a few items left. A couple of random atari games ... a pretty beat up looking guide for FF Tactics ... And if you guys are honestly needing some cords or cables or maybe even a controller, I have 2 duffle bags full of them (The only thing I can see that I dont have anything for is the SNES and the Saturn).

If someone else would want it, they are welcome to it. I'm not fluent in Japanese (just minored in it in college, so enough to stumble through games), and since Innocent Sin came out for the PSP, I never got the Japanese version.

However, if no one else would like it, I'd gladly take it off your hands. Just feel bad that I haven't dug through my stuff enough to pay it forward yet. My master's classes are kicking my butt this summer!

PM me (or e-mail me/it's in my profile) with where/who to send it to -and- I'll get it out either later today or early tomorrow.

PS...wtf's the deal w/ people here randomly using "@" in front of user's screen-names???

Ha, it's leftover from our switch from the old forum to the new one.  The old one would trigger a mention to the person who was named after the @.  Pretty handy when you lose track of a thread and someone mentions you in a later related post.

I guess I still do it hoping that it'll work again ;P

Page 1-144 are intact ... 145 to 172 are not attached ... 173 to the end are attached. The spine label is mostly gone too. It was just a placeholder in my collection til I got it replaced. I got it from Vintage stock one day on their buy one guide, get one free. If you want the guide for just playing through the game, its perfectly fine ... if you want it for display, Id go with another. It is the first print release btw, not the greatest hits version.

Well, I've listened to it as I've played through Disgaea 4, and, yes, I've also listened to the soundtrack while driving in the car, etc.

I dunno...I guess that you could look on you-tube/gameplay videos of *any* of the 4 Disgaea games (1st 2 are on PS2, 2nd two are on PS3)...to get an approximate idea of the style of the music.

As a big Disgaea fan, I'm obviously biased...but I love the music & art-work...and would definitely recommend the music to any/everyone!

I'm actually expecting some more copies of it in soon.

If you're familiar w/ Tenpei Sato - he's the composer (if you want, you could always you-tube some of his songs/see if you like them or not)...and if you do...let me know and I'll set-aside the next one that I get for you :)

They're pretty good. Fairly simple but still pretty fun classic JRPG style games with pretty funny writing. They probably won't blow your mind, but they're pretty fun. If you were gonna get the new Penny Arcade game anyways, might as well get it now to get those free.

I usually wait for Steam sales, but considering that the game is less than $5, and I'd be getting two free games, it's a helluva deal.

Thanks @jobocan and @desocietas! I completely forgot that Episode 3 was coming out today. It's now installed and ready for as soon as I get the paper I'm avoiding finished.

And I played Cthulhu a bit on the Xbox a while back, but I'm excited to actually get my own copy. I caught the Episode 3 panel at PAX and the Zeboyd guys seemed really cool, so I'm glad to be able to give their stuff a real try.

Anyone who hasn't played the first two Precipice of Darkness games, by the way, they are $2 each right now on Steam as well (or $3 for both).

Okay its been a while since I have bumped this ... I now have something to add. This one, however, is going to be a bit heavier than normal so if the shipping is too much, I may ask for a bit of help on paying for it. But here it is : http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=saitek+x45&_sacat=0

If anyone is interested in this thing, let me know. I have no interest in PC gaming and even if I did, this is not the type I would play regardless so it just sits in my game room. :)

Late I know but I've pretty much have a great experience with local gamestop sure I learned not to even think about sell to them and that one time I was in a store were an employee and the manager were making fun of a person with asbuger. But I did get both fired even had the dm donate time and games etc to a facility that caters to them. But I never heard of them not giving a refund. When Spiderman 3 was coming out I pre ordered it 2 months later I was in the store when a guy came in with an unopened press release of the game. Gamestop couldn't buy it because it wasn't released. So I offered to buy it forgetting I had it pre ordered, about 2 yrs later I found my receipt got a refund! But if you guys hate em so much do what I do exploit there ass wait til games go to the clearance bin.they have a 7 day return policy, so if find red label PS games, platinum etc or your games get scratch you can buy a used copy switch thegame/ cover art etc return it full refund if within 7 days. Stupid thing it doesn't even have to be broken tell them you just didn't like it. Many different ways to get them back... Just saying

I have a few new items for this.

Gamecube box+manual for Twilight Princess. I spent forever looking for disk only and got lucky and found one stuck in a bunch of DVDs at a pawn store for $2 so Im giving away my previous box and manual.

I still have the joystick set from a dozen or so posts back. Its still boxed and ready to go but shipping going to be expensive so Ill just give it to whoever for cost only.

Ill find more later Im sure.

I have an extra copy of Final Fantasy X-2 available.

Its the black label version, the case and art look like they are in pretty good shape and the disc only has a few light scratches on it. But it is missing the manual.

I got this in the bundle of PS2 games given to me for the Retrotron. And since I already have it and don't feel like trying to sell it, figured I would offer it up here.

I have three manuals in good condition if anyone is interested in them.  I had sold/given these particular games away, but couldn't find the manuals at the time.  I found them the other day, and now they need homes.  I can send all three together or split them up to whomever wants them.  All three are for SNES and are in black and white:

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures
MTV's Beavis and Butthead

I really want to contribute, but I'm a little low on budget for the moment, and I'm not home for a month so I can't really search through my stuff for anything right now anyway  :-\ . I will eventually, though! I really like the idea of this thread  :)

For now all I can offer is via steam: Day of Defeat: Source, which I had a double, and old Team Fortress 2 items. I don't think I have anything extraordinary, but they're mostly vintage since I played a long time ago (and I believe the "vintage" items have more value for some reason). If you wanna see my inventory, it's right here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/tsukinoneko/inventory/#440

I also have keys for Lume, Soulcaster and Soulcaster II for Desura, as I bought an Indie Royale bundle a while ago and I don't use Desura.

Gamecube box+manual for Twilight Princess. I spent forever looking for disk only and got lucky and found one stuck in a bunch of DVDs at a pawn store for $2 so Im giving away my previous box and manual.

If you still have the Twilight Princess manual, I have a collector friend who is missing it since a while and would absolutely love to finally have it! I don't need the box though, so you can keep it for someone else if you like.

The US version isn't far behind cheapest I found on Ebay was $225, Amazon was $250.  Sealed copies hitting the $900+ mark.

Sealed VGA graded ones are considerably higher.  $1200+

In other words it's getting out of hand people.   :-\

What country are you talking about w/ those prices?!

Couldn't you order them from US Amazon/E-Bay for less?

I mean, I've seen sealed copies on Amazon for $1,000+ -but- they also have them there for 1/2 that price.

Also, keep in mind what they're *really* selling for (After Amazon's 15% off of the top + shipping/insurance, etc)...bet you could knock (at least) $100 off by contacting any of those sellers and cutting-out Amazon :)

That's funny, I see the items  :o I guess it has to do with the link being mine while I'm logged in or something... Maybe with http://steamcommunity.com/id/tsukinoneko/inventory/  ? I still see it without the number at the end, so that might be the issue.

Not really - most of these items aren't worth any real money, only in-game metal. And since karyann doesn't play anymore...

That Prussian Pickelhaube and the Manniversary Package sure are mighty tempting though, haha.

I've got an extra copy of Dragon Warrior for NES, just the cart, if anyone is actually looking for one.  I found it a few days ago in my trunk in the shed.  I've also got a few random items for TF2 that I gathered when I was giving the game a test try.  I doubt they are rare or anything, but anyone is welcome to them.

Sadly, my collect is still tiny so I don't really have a whole lot to offer to the thread.  :(

Alright so I'll just need your username and to know how to gift TF2 items, and they're yours! :P I'm still such a noob on steam haha. Been registered for 3 years, hardly ever play except on the holidays.  ::)

After a quick search it seems that we have to be friends then make a trade while we are both online. If it happens to be impossible to accept the trade if there aren't items on both sides, just give me anything worthless, otherwise it would kinda be lost :)

Anyone here a big anime fan?

Preferrably, "older" (30-40 year olds)?

Just wondering, cause the anime I got yesterday "Ghastly Prince Enma: Burning Up" is pretty damned hilarious...if you catch/understand the references to (Grateful Dead, the Eagles, Kiss, and tons & tons) of other references to music, pop-culture, movies, and tv shows from before (and up until) the end of the 80's...or so.

At any rate - my "personal" copy of the LE came w/ both Blu Ray and (standard) DVD discs (2 discs each) - I'd be willing to "Pay it forward" on the 2 regular DVD discs & package them together in one of the cases (I have 2 cases...each one has 1 blu ray & 1 dvd - I'd just combine the 2 dvd's into 1 case & keep the other for my blu ray copies)...

Like I said though - if you don't/won't get these older references...it will probably not be very enjoyable to you...at all :P

Hey Soera, do you still have that gamecube Twilight Princess box and manual? I'm sorry to bring it up again; I just thought you might have missed my post through all the rest! If you purposely didn't answer I really don't mind, I just wanted to make sure :)

In case you missed it, I asked if you still have it and if you really want to give out both at the same time, because I have a collector friend (I even got him to register here since then, hehe  ;D his username is Kafei ) who's missing only the manual and he's been looking for it for quite a while!

So... I got some stuff.

One Third Party Dreamcast S-Video / Composite cable. It's not suitable for image capturing purposes since it screws up the s-video signal, but it's okay for playing. Bought at Gamestop.

One Battle Arena Toshinden anime and game artbook. I've had this lying around for a while and I think it's a little sunfaded but it's otherwise fine.

Just pay the shipping and they're yours. I ship from US Zip code 92231.

Up for offer. Bard's Tales manual for NES. Its probably rated a 5 out of a 10. There is some game related writing in the back of the book and its a bit crumpled.

Its going to be mailed in a weird envelope so I can just toss a stamp on it and get it out. First response gets it. :)

Sent through Steam!

3 more copies for anyone who wants to try it.  It's a good game, fun with friends for sure.  I don't play it really since I don't know how to play it as well as all the other people who are always playing.

Just got Sega Saturn "3 Free Games" in a trade today.
Since the box was trashed and it was missing Daytona USA, I thought I'd give away Virtua Fighter 2, since I already have it!
It has a manual as well.
If anyone would like it, let me know!

I've got a set of component cables that will output a PSP's (2000 model *ONLY*) video onto a tv screen.

I got em pretty cheap @ a yard sale -and- they're still in original packaging & unopened; never used...

If anyone wants, needs, or can use them...they're gone to the 1st taker for whatever the postage costs :)

Nope - doesn't record anything.

It lets you play a UMD/game on your PSP 2000 and outputs the video to your tv screen.

Hah :P

I've got the 3000 -but- only because it happened to be the one that was being sold at the time.

@jcalder8:

Do you know what (if there are any significant ones) the differences are between the 3?

Basically, all I *Do* know is that the earlier models (the 1000 & 2000) are supposedly easier & more user-friendly when it comes to running/using custom firmware/homebrew on them, which is meaningless to me, since I don't know how to use it and/or care about any of it...I'm not even sure if I could use it w/ my 3000...even if I wanted to.

 :-[  Basically the same situation w/ my DSi-XL  :o

It was the 1st, easiest, and most convenient one around when I decided I wanted a DS (and, AGAIN, I really don't know what makes it better/worse than any other DS models); just that I was pissed @ myself when I realized that some types of DS' could also play GBA games on em' -and- that mine *Wasn't* one of them :(

SO, now that I've got my 3DS-XL (which I've yet to use for more than an hour)...I also have my pretty, blue DSi-XL that's had all of 1/2 of a game played on it (the 1st half of Crono Trigger when Sandy hit us); I ended up finishing the game with the PS version instead, though.

The main reason I want a 2 or 3000 is because the d-pad isn't very good for the 1000

I think the main difference between the 2000 and 3000 are the screen and battery. If I remember the PSP-2000 had better battery life, but the screen was dimmer. While the PSP-3000 had a brighter screen, but you could see scanlines and the battery life was shorter (prolly thanks to the brighter screen).

I've had a PSP-1000 that was modded, but traded it in towards a PSP-2000. I hated dealing with firmware updates on the modded 1000, and I've had a few games on it which I wasn't able to play right away, because of updated firmware issues. I looked into the 3000 when it came out, but I didn't care for the screen and decided to stick w/ my 2000.

Usually when folks ask me which PSP to go with, I'll usually direct them toward the 2000 because I think it's the better model.

yeah, when I was researching for a PSP, I was planning on getting a 2000 because of the better screen (brightness isn't that important to me, esp if I choose to play in the dark), but the bf beat me to it and bought me a 3000 before I knew what happened.  Can't look a gift horse in the mouth, though...  :-\

Heya 90snostalgia!

This thread has been a little inactive lately, but mainly it's for very nice folks who are happy to send something (for free) to someone else in the forums who would like the item.  Usually some minor things like a magazine or a game manual or promo item... I've given away dupe Steam keys here... wish I'd given away more before Humble Bundle changed their policy on their Steam keys!

So in case you have any weird things you don't mind giving away for free, feel free to list it up here.  Someone might be interested!

AAh.  I get it.  That's pretty cool.  I'm going to have to find some stuff to give away.  So if I had something to give, I would just list the item on this thread, and basically just await for some one to claim it?  That's pretty much how it works?

Record of Lodoss War is pretty awesome if you get a chance to look at it. I didn't see much of the show, but the Dreamcast game was a favorite of mine.

Soera (or anyone else): I have a Dragon Warrior poster for NES. or maybe DW2? I'm not sure.  It's in pretty rough shape.  Interested?

If for some reason Soera doesn't grab it, I'd appreciate it. I've got the game, box, and manual but no handbook and maps. They're stupid expensive on ebay.

Also to contribute to this thread, I've had a couple manuals I've been meaning to post up here.

If anyone's interested, Here's are manuals for Faxanadu, Dragon Warrior, Blades of Steel, and Gauntlet Legends.

Okay.   I have obviously confused different users.  Someone messaged me or sent me some kind of youtube notification a few days ago, about the 3DS case that is a user on vgcollect because the avatar was familiar to me.  However, I cannot find that comment, message or what ever it was for some reason.  Still trying to figure out the navigation through all of the youtube features.  Who ever messaged me via youtube, comment on here so I'll know who it was because I am confused.  I thought it was stethebubble but it's not him.

Pacpix, thumbs up on your Weird Al screensaver.  :P  I got to see him in concert about 3 years ago, hands down one of the best concerts I've ever seen.  He even signed some autographs afterwards, and I got him to sign my Alpocalypse poster I bought as well as my DVD of UHF.  You could tell he was exhausted after the show, but he was still super nice.

I actually just had random internet images in the background, but thanks ha.  I would love to see him live, he has come to my town once, and that was the year before I knew he existed during his White and Nerdy tour.  It looks like a lot of work goes into his concerts though with all the costume changes and stuff from what I have seen.  I also love the UHF DVD, the movie and commentary are great. My old friend borrowed a copy and then moved away so I don't have it anymore, I need to buy it again soon.

No you take them.   DKC  I would get really for my daughter because she always wants to play mine and I'm stingy when it comes to games so I would give it to her; however, I found out last night that she forged my signature on her report card last week so she got her little but tore up and she is on restriction for 30 days.  No games for her at all!  She is to sit in her bed all day every day and do home work and/or read books and thats the only entertainment she can have.

Batman: Arkham City Catwoman DLC
Batman: Arkham City Robin DLC

Lightning Returns Aerith Outfit

Saints Row IV Commander-In-Chief DLC pack
Saints Row IV Online Pass

And one 360 code, a 48 hour XBLive Gold trial

I just received my Drakengard 3 OST.

I ordered it from SE/Digital River on-line store (who I never use)...

...since this item was (originally) a JP-Only item, I received a card w/ a bunch of JP characters on it (that is apparently a "points" card) that can be applied to the SE on-line store -BUT- only the JP store and *NOT* the NA store.

First person to say that they're interested/will use it will get a PM from me with the #

Since I'll never use it - I'd rather see one of the rest of ya' put it to use instead of just throwing it away!  ;D

Anyone want free copies of Stacking (http://store.steampowered.com/app/115110/) or Paranautical Activity (http://store.steampowered.com/app/250580/) for Steam? And a closed beta key for a MOBA called Strife (https://strife.com/).

These are Humble Weekly (https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly) spare copies. You can get those and two others for a buck, but if you don't plan to buy the bundle and only want the games, then lemme know.

Heh what is updated?  :o

Post # 323 in this thread.

Today's only additions were the top 3 DS ones...

I figured that - instead of making a new & separate post for any/every thing that I add - I'll just edit # 323 & post "updated"  ;)

Got a couple of giveaways from the 90snostalga lounge!:

*  Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2) Complete; however, the game is heavily scratched and would not play past the main screen on my ps2.  If you need the case and/or manual, this would be great for you, or if you know how to re surface the disc

*  McDonalds Mario Kart 8 series toy.  Yoshi still brand new in the package.  I got all 8 toys and one of the happy meal boxes but I have an extra Yoshi if anyone wants it

I have an extra copy of Killzone for the PS2 that's up for grabs... As for the condition..... well its free, so yeah.... The game has the original case art but the case is a generic DVD case. The manual is complete and in surprisingly decent condition. The disc is missing a good chunk of the label but it doesn't effect that game play that I've noticed. I haven't played through the whole game but I don't think you'll have any issues since it's a DVD and the data layer is sandwiched between the plastic. As for shipping costs I only accept Dogecoin; but if you don't have any Dogecoin the shipping will be free too!

One per person. Don't send me PMs, ask me for them here. :)

Didn't thank you for the code here (was sent over PM at DP, for the interested), but thanks! Sadly the game kept crashing on me, but what I did play was fairly interesting.

Lol im kinda new to this thread, what the premise?

Have something you want to give away?  Just toss it in here and folks will take it off your hands.

On the flip side of that, don't be scared to speak up if someone posts something you'd like to have.  Just don't be greedy and take all the free stuff.

It's kind of customary for the recipient to pay for shipping too.

It's just another way for us to help each other out as a community.

It was the last one they had  :-\

I have a  'corrupt' local GS

If my friend - the girl manager - had been working...I'd have gotten it for free (since they were pennying/throwing them out); since it was the guy working (aka the one that's *not* crushing on me), he charged me $5 for it.

Sorry, I worded that stupidly. I knew it was just the guide. I'm just surprised they're already doing that with the guides as the game is relatively new. Just last year I got a collector's edition version of the guide for Final Fantasy 12 at a gamestop. That was years old at that point so I'm surprised to see them getting rid of those guides so soon.

I got a stack of free "pennied-out" strategy guides again and, since I got several for the same game + never let it be said that disgaeniac possesses none of that X-Mas spirit, I'm willing to share the wealth...to an extent 8)

I'm not looking to make any money on them & I'm willing to give them away so, here's how it's gonna work:

- I'm giving away (3) copies of the paperback strategy guide for Sunset Overdrive (for the XB1),

- The 1st 3 VGC'ers to post here will lay claim to them,

*BUT*

I'm generous...not a saint or foolish so -

Those who want 1 of these 3 free guides will have to:

(1) PM me for the particulars,

(2) Send me an envelope/box with its shipping prepaid + pre-addressed with who & where they'd like it sent, and

(3) Upon receipt - I'll drop the guide in and 3 of ya will get the guide for the cost of its postage; Enjoy!

While VGC's hanD down my favorite & most frequented site...it's not the only place that I'd listed & offered to give those guides away.

didya' really want 1 of em, D-Sis(t:)?

I have the feeling that I could get another one (or another stack) of them, if you'd like one ;)

Have you talked to your b/f at all about this "Pennying-Out" practice of GS?

I'd be curious as to why & how they came to the conclusion that putting a 1 cent price tag on them & throwing them in their dumpsters is > selling em online for (*easily*) $5 to $10 each :o

I'm guessing & assuming that, this way - the store can write them off & document them as only being a "loss" of a penny each (ie: making the amount of their "losses" look much better, on paper)?

I dunno, WTF? >:(

I'd personally be one pissed-off & disgruntled (EX) stock-holder, if a company I'd invested in/owned shares of was - basically, throwing (what could & should be My) cash in the trash :-\

Seriously though, Deso...shit like that - where management's signing off on & instructing the employees to throw good, valuable, and/or wanted items + merchandise in the trash - against company policy, or not - If I was you, I'd ask (read: tell!) your b/f to not draw any attention to himself & not to brag about or discuss it with anyone at work -but- once it's in the trash...GS has relinquished any rights of or to ownership of the merchandise.

The point being - if it was me working there & being told to throw this shit away...you can bet yer sweet ass that, I'd be parking in the back (by the dumpsters), and - throwing it in my car, rather than the dumpster!

Really - it's not even doing anything wrong or to feel 'bad' about; the store won't know the difference between it being in a car vs. a dumpster & it's not stealing or hurting or affecting the store's #'s or bottom line, because...as far as they know & are concerned - it's no different than them throwing it out but, someone else later comes along & takes them out of the dumpster; know what I'm saying, L'il sis?

Ha, I didn't really want one - I was just making a jab at Xbox Ones ;P

But I know you've mentioned the pennying-out practice at your Gamestop - do you know if other stores in your area do it, too?  It just all sounds very fishy, especially since these sound like brand new guides for recent games.

I haven't asked my bf about it, but I don't believe they penny-out anything.  The only time he's mentioned things being of penny-worth is when folks trade in very low-value items, but never in reference to throwing things away or removing them from stock.

AFAIK, he can't remove anything from the garbage bin himself as there have been times that people just leave items they decide they can't trade in for whatever reason and he has to trash it.  He can't allow other people to go through the garbage on the floor either since there are cameras.

But who knows what happens with whatever garbage receptacle they have behind the store... But he told me he would give me a heads-up if they ever trash anything I'd be interested in.
Title: Re: The Pay It Forward Thread
Post by: disgaeniac on December 23, 2014, 03:49:52 pm
Yep, my five closest stores, at least, all penny-out their stuff when they need the space for newer/'better'/different merchandise, Deso.

I'm *guessing* that, since GS is a franchise - that all of the stores have the exact same policies & pull/do the exact same shit.

I'm making another (pretty educated) guess that - the only reason that *I* can come up with for pennying-out (like you said) pretty new guides, for pretty new games...would have to be to make room for stock that they *Have* to display and/or push for the holidays.

I'd be curious to know what your bf says, if you ever do ask him, though...

My GS "insider" & co-conspirator :P, I know, has risked her job in doing many of the favors that she's been hooking me up with for the last few years now...I know for a fact, that it is absolutely against company policy to give the stuff that gets pennied-out away -and- off the record...she's even told me that almost none of the customers know that they do this and, by the spirit of GS' rules...that the employees aren't even allowed to talk about and/or admit or confirm this policy to Any customers, friends, etc.

Hence, the reason that I'd be really interested in finding out that (and, I strongly suspect that it is) a global & store/chain-wide policy.

It's okay, but it's far from being my favourite fighting game. It's like Super Smash Bros, but you have absolutely no way of KO-ing anybody apart from using your "super attack", which charges up by gathering some orbs that people drop when they get hit. I don't know how far this can get you, but it seems like it's possible to win a game by avoiding battle and gathering orbs, and then just launching your super attack. It's a strange mechanic to be, but I might just not be used enough to the game.

Apart from that, if you like Sony characters, I guess it's worth a try!

I have 3 codes to the beta of Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes on 3DS; which Nintendo says I was specially selected for. Online multiplayer Zelda game.

I probably won't play it, so whoever messages me first, can have them.

I have a manual I don't need of "Quest: Fantasy Challenge" for Gameboy Color, if anyone needs it for their copy of their game, let me know. It seems to be in really good shape with all pages intact. If possible, I'd appreciate $2 for shipping (will have tracking) or I could just send it as a letter in an envelope. Your call. PM me if interested.

Just for shits and giggles, the first person that PMs me gets a Steam Key.  I don't know what game.  I have a few that I got for the Our Parents' Basement Podcast.

And they're gone!  Thanks for playing folks.

Who want's a Steam Key?
It could be trash or it could be a good game.  You never know, but it's free!

First 2 people that PM me get a Steam Key to keep or pass on if they don't want it.

Let's make this fun.  PM me a joke.  The harder I laugh, the better game you get.  A small chuckle get Minesweeper for windows 3.1.  If my face hurts from laughing you get a better game.
I'm not sure what I have.  I just know there's a bunch.

I have a "few" Steam keys to give so go ahead and ask any games you want from the list below and i will PM you the keys (you will maybe have to wait a little before receiving the keys since i am often out for work).

I only have one rule: i will not give any key to an account created after when i posted the list of games so no need to create an account just for that but feel free to join this great community though (otherwise just contact me directly on Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/Metshael/) in a few weeks instead if the games you want are still available), i'm really sorry if it seem harsh but it became really crazy on the last site i was so i tend to be more careful now.

If metshael is anything like me, they buy up the Humble Bundles for $1 whenever they come up (several times a month). I have over 600 keys and counting because of that (not counting the items I've redeemed)...

I see. I created a steam account many years ago to get all the Ys games in one place. Just really never cared for PC gaming so I didnt do anymore than creating the account.

That's where the games i give come from yes (except for a few keys from physical version game case that i already own on steam), i've bought a lot of bundles during the past 3 years (mostly from Humble Bundle too, they make good quality bundle, sometimes even for consoles and Groupees, i've discovered many indie gems from their bundles and their music and OST bundles are great too).

Those games are better in the hands of other gamers than collecting virtual dust as keys in a .txt file ;D.

My sell list is updated with Steam games I have keys for, nearly all cases except for Revolution Ace which is a gift and can only be gifted or traded.

Do not send me PMs here for these codes. I will only send keys via Steam messages!
You can find me in the VGCollect Steam group and you should join it too:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/VGCollect

I cannot guarantee that all keys will activate.

Would anyone like the Project X Zone collector's edition stuff? I'm keeping the game and game case, but I have no need for the CE box, the soundtrack, the soundtrack slip, the artbook and the poster.

All you need to pay for is shipping. Just PM me if you're interested.

Man i wish I could give away all my Steam games that i bought. I've got a large library that ive had before i caught the collecting bug, and now digital games mean nothing to me. Thought they'd run fine on my flimsy laptop back then.

Okay so I have an extra PS4 game and season pass download for Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, because I bought a second one to get a slightly better case. The catch is it says that is expires the 9th meaning tonight at midnight - you need to enter it right away. I hate for it to just go to waste, so it's first come first serve. The offer is for established members / forum regulars only.

If you would like the physical game case that came with it, just send me $2 to cover shipping and I'll send it your way.

I keep meaning to offer these since Nintendo issued them, but from now until 7/1 they have a reward for a 3DS theme that is redeemable multiple times so that they can be given out to friends.

If anyone is interested in this:

Let me know! I have enough points to redeem a few times for anyone who's interested in the theme. Luigi could always use more love!

I won a free code for the PS4 version of Air Twister (https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10008088) that I'm offering to give. The code is only available for the North American PlayStation Store, so you'll need that specific regional account to redeem it. I only ask that anyone interested have the intent to play the game. So, if you're interested, feel free to PM me. I'll update this post once the code's been given away.

After having a $10 coupon code for GameFly for nearly six months, I've found no use for it. I'm not exactly sure if the code is tied to my account or if the code can freely be given to others, but for any who are interested in a free coupon code, you're more than welcome to message me for it so that it can (hopefully) be redeemed. The code expires April 24.
