What media didn't you allowed to have as a kid?
Movies/TV/VideoGames/etc!
I think the entirety of the media for ages 7-18+ my not allowed. The maximum is 6!

And the not allowed includes SpongeBob, Fairly OddParents, Rugrats, Rocko, Ren&Stimpy, etc.

I wasn't allowed to get Warcraft because the name sounded like "witchcraft"... plus there was "clearly" a demon on the box. ::)
I had Street Fighter II though, which was the coolest game you could have. Took it to a friends house where his mom promptly rooted through my bag and saw green-skinned Blanka on the cover. "You can't play this one. It's demonic." She let us play Mario Paint though!

My mother kind of bought into the Satanic Panic of the 80s and refused to let me play Dungeons and Dragons. By the time I was a teenager in the 90s though, she softened her stance on it and allowed it begrudgingly.

Pretty much the same here. There were a couple movies I wasn't allowed to watch until I was older (When I was 7-8 I couldn't watch certain movies like Cat People or Risky Business, but by the time I was 13 it was fine, lol) Actually, those are the only 2 I recall being told I had to wait on (Themes were incest and prostitution)

I saw Full Metal Jacket when I was 6, if that gives you any idea.

I don't remember many things explicitly forbidden. They didn't allow me to watch non-age appropriate stuff unsupervised, like The Terminator at age 6, but other than that, I was free to consume any type of media available. I could also play violent games, like Carmageddon and Mortal Kombat 4, because unlike most people, they thought games to be less harmful/disturbing than movies.

My mom was religious, dad not so much, but my mom never really fell into the "That's evil" side of things. I specifically remember getting a birthday card for a friends party, saying to not bring toys like "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", because they were mutants and that is somehow evil. My mom thought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were cute lol
So I didn't have too much stuff that was off limits. She of course wouldn't really want me watching too violent and horrific of stuff, normal parent things, but never outright saying "That's off limits" for things that aren't really a problem. I'd watch a lot of tv with my dad, so I saw like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, and other movies and shows on TV, which was normal cable, so abit edited, but she didn't seem to mind that a ton that I remember, though there are probably a few things she probably regrets letting me watch with him lol

The only thing that really sticks out was actually video games. I did not have any at home until around 1993 when I got a computer. Before that time I had a NES at my dad's house and spent time playing video games at friends houses. I did not have a video game console at home until I bought a Saturn.

My parents were reluctant to pay for any type of internet service.
They were concerned about us kiddos seeing adult material and weren't particularly internet savvy, back during the days of WebTV.
I remember when we first got WebTV, there was an adult filter they figured out how to put on, and the settings blocked me from just wanting to view Nintendo's official website and Pokemon. I just wanted to figure out how to get Pikablu and Yoshi in my copy of Pokemon Red man.
I'd imagine for them back then, internet was only good for news or sexy times.
I guess they're not wrong, lol.

My Mum didn't want us to play any Beat'em'Up or FPS till we were like 16 years old, ... but we bypassed her controls via friends 8)
By the age of 11 I was literally addicted to playing GoldenEye007 for N64.

The only media I was not allowed at a young kid was Horror movies.
So my brother and I used to create our own by drawing comic style books in our notepads.
Then when I finally got to see a horror movie I was disappointed because they went as F'ed up as what we drew. lol

Pretty much just explicit music or anything with a parental advisory warning on it. I believe they bought into the whole "explicit music brainwashes and turns kids violent and deviant" panic that was going around since the 80s into the 90s. They didn't really seem to grasp the ESRB indicators, but on a few occasions when I'd want a mature game you'd have an asshat game-store associate give a spiel about all the "bad stuff" in a game they were about to buy for me. They'd always give in, but who the hell are these do-good'ers who think it's their job to stand there and guilt trip a customer over buying their kid some video game smut? Pizz off register jockey, it's not your place to grill people on what they buy.

Closest talking to I got was that my grandfather didn't want me listening to rap/hip-hop. The song that was being played at the time he brought it up was "Burnt" by Del the Funky Homosapien which was on the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland game and the only song on the Rap/Hip-Hop list I actually enjoyed and had in rotation on that game.
Would of been funnier if it was his song "If You Must" back on THPS3 though

Stuff like Mortal Kombat didn’t come out until I was in high school. No worries on the video games.
My mom started taking me to rated R movies when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. Mostly horror or sci-fi (Aliens, Creepshow, Friday the 13th etc.).
For some reason I wasn’t allowed to hear music with cussing though. Had to hide the 2 Live crew and Eazy E cassettes back in junior high lol. That Sony Walkman used up a crap load of AA batteries.

I cannot STAND church riots against media, and I even know how to make holy water.
But to stay on the topic my parents actually wouldn't let me have any consoles, only a pc which i wanted a console instead but all I could get were games of violence or education. Golf and racing, then sports. 3 till adulthood I was about 15 or 16 when I had my vary first at home video game console. And one of the vary first games my mom bought me was Call of Duty Finest Hour.
My parents all hated all Mario and Sonic games and would refuse them by telling me they all sucked.
I was a five-year-old taking Flintstones and playing shareware Wolfenstein 3D. Heretic shareware and Doom shareware. Those were not even full versions of the games. AND? 8 years old Doom95 was the first non-educational game full version I got at home and death rally later on shareware. All demos and educational games mostly, and Duke Nukem 3D.
But my PC had such suckh specs in childhood I may have had about 160 other games just to look at because they kept crashing or needing to have more CPU RAM.in order to play them And my stupid grandmother or family would never upgrade it for me back thrn whrn I asked nicely
But in spite of these difficult things, I am now a teacher world wide uncertified

No They just never saw the stuff I was watching they just left the TV on them I saw, THAT was the 1990's
