Here are your badges! This is a list of what badges are available for which actions. We are always brainstorming ideas on what to make badges for and I'll add more as we move forward with implementing them. But for now here are the current ones.
BETA Badges: Awarded for joining the site/ using the android app during it's original BETA period (Currently on going Android only)

@pceslayer For being an Android app user. I would think it should pop just like the Android Beta badge does. I'm not sure if @matt has it working yet, since I think the only ones with it are him and myself.

@pceslayer All I had to do was install the app and log in and it immediately gave me the Android Beta badge.
EDIT: I am awesome at reading and realize you were asking about the normal android badge. I never got that one.

BTW. You'll notice the new badges for Editing are only showing the highest value you've earned. The plan is to streamline the sidebar badges and then have all of your badges show on your Stats page.

Is editing the same as adding items to the database? Or actually going in and putting edits in? Because I'm not showing a badge for edits, and I figure I should at least have a few.

Nope Editing and Database Submissions are different. There are badges made up for submissions too. The biggest problem with the edit and submission badges is we only have a couple months worth of tracking.
I see on your stats page is says you have 44 submissions and 0 edits. So, maybe any edits you have done were missed. Could you make a quick edit so I can see if it's tallying and awarding the badges properly?

Although collection tallies are fun, remember that not everyone collects in sheer amounts :) I collect specific games thus won't see very many badges =P

There are going to be more than just these, so its not all collection tallies. There will be badges for adding missing games to the database, forum activity and hopefully more. :)

I think I should have a submissions badge :) It's okay though, no idea how many I did back when I was putting in my NES games, etc. My edits should be well over 250 as well but 'tis cool.

It's also a possibility that some of those stats are inaccurate. I may or may not have been drunk while coding it. :) I'll be revisiting it soon.

He also has a huge soft spot for Sega though, so he prolly sabotaged the code to make it seem like everyone else does too. ;)

Ha, there's really no hurry. I just noticed the badges up top and wondered by mine didn't show up. Not a big thing unless we start showing the badges next to our names in the forums :P

The plan is to get the side bar to only show the most recent badges. to help keep things from getting cluttered. Then we are going to show the full set of badges you've earned on your stats page. Currently it's using the same code though, so it shows the same thing on both pages.

Updated the Collection badges, they now go up to 5000, though we still need to implement the code to go higher than 1000. Also, I've made additional new badges for Edits, allowing for up to 5000, they aren't uploaded to the site yet.
@nightowljrm I'm all for suggestions, what were you thinking?

Heh, I like this idea. For me, it doesn't even have to be badges... could even be just a profile title we earn through some secret behind-the-scenes formula based on our collection. If it were badges, I could see how that'd be interesting, as some people would get multiple badge combinations.

About the elopers/publishers list, I noticed that once I began adding the games I have. At the end of the day, it's true - Nintendo, SE, and other companies have different and (sometimes) numerous teams, but I think the list should only have the main name (like Nintendo, Capcom, etc..)
The only solution I can think of is a manual clean-up of the current ones, and at the same time block normal users the ability to add a new developers/publishers. We could create a thread to add/edit/delete elopers/publishers that are (or not) in the list.

Fixing the dev/pub lists is totally going to be a manual fix. The biggest thing is merging all of the dupes together so we don't have to edit all of the game entries manually, that would be a pain.
As far as merging them all into one name, we are going for being as accurate as possible. Most publishers only have one or two names, mostly pertaining to region, like Sony has SCEI, SCEA, SCEE and SCE Australia. The devs is where it gets kinda crazy, but in favor of accuracy, we'd need each dev team listed, like Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Konami Computer Entertainment Nagoya, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, Konami JPN ltd, etc, etc. But then there are one offs too, Bungie, Sonic Team, Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, etc.

I like the idea of "personailzed" badges. Currently, since all that is active are item counts and edit counts everyone has the same thing. But it would be super cool to have something based on the stats page, such as most owned genres. I'd think Matt would need to find a way to make it based off of a percent rather than purely number based though. Because if it was based on numbers, rather than percentage, we'd have to come up with a fair threshold for everyone.

I hit 50 a little earlier today and the badge popped right up. Still missing the badge for 1.
Edit: I just went over 800 items, nothing happened. The 700 badge issued just fine when I hit that earlier, though.

@dstone currently we are only showing the highest ranked Edit badge you've received. Eventually the sidebar badges will only show the top badge in each category, to help keep down on clutter. It's in Matt's to-do list. Then in your stats page we'll have them all listed for you to view.
As for your 800 badge, that would be another bug. We'll get it fixed for you asap.

I fixed you badges manually and found a minor bug. If you moved an item from your wishlist to your collection, a new badge wouldn't trigger. There has to be another problem tho...

@matt i have done over 262 database submissions and 388 database edits and no new badge i am stuck on the 100 edits badge
also the pie chart thing has a bug instead of it saying odyssey 2 it says Odyssey < sup > 2 < / sup > [NA]

Matt was supposed to get that working, right around when VGC turned 1. I guess it was put on the back burner... :'(
Aw, well, I'm sure the mobile site was more important. I think the only way he can make it up to folks clamoring for badges at this point is for the mobile site's front page to be a giant badge that blinks and says "you're awesome" over and over again.

Last I heard, it exists, but it needs to be implemented by Matt (it's on his to-do list: http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,324.0.html) :)

I *Really* like the idea of some individualized/personalized badges coming out, too :)
I "get" what Scott was saying earlier ITT about how something like "favorite genre" things could be a pain-in-the-ass because they'd have to be done by/with percentages & a *Base* minimum number of games for each user to have to be eligible to receive it...
I was thinking, however, that it might be simpler to implement something like a badge for the system/platform that each user owns the most games for w/ a pic. & a 'witty'/'snarky' kind of title:
For Example:
Say that I owned more games for the PS2 than any other system. Then, I could receive a badge w/ a image/pic of a PS2 on it w/ (...and this is just an *Example* title - I'm sure that we could come up w/ some better ones:)
Something like:
"2nd-Generation Player"... ...where someone who owned the most games for the PS1 could be called a "STATIONary PLAYer", etc.
Another idea would be the same basic idea...but for:
A). *Developer* you own the most games buy, B). *Producer* you own the most games by, and C). *Series*/*Franchise* that you own the most games in...
Thoughts?!

I'd enjoy badges. Online achievements are serious business.
Yeah, I was just kidding - I've been known to go through 'phases' where I've whored/chased some trophies/platinums...
Achievements, Badges, Trophies... On one side, I hate it because it creates this desire for me to do the game's bidding such as a nightmarish secondary playthrough or perfect attack combos. On the other, I can flaunt my epic gaming session to people.

Badges have been disabled since the new site design went live. Matt is working to get them reimplemented within profile pages, but since the profile pages don't exist yet, they aren't visible.

If we do, I'd like to see some different badges added. Like badges having to do with forum posts, maybe if you own a certain amount of a genre or system you could have an "RPGer" or "Nintendo Fanboy" badge. Or how about a "Swag Hag" badge? Just some ideas.

You got that right! LOL .... Some people think badges are not necessary... But in a way it keeps some people motivated to do or get more.... Like the edits ... Might help get people to do more edits and make the game in the database complete with info... Some people do actually read the whole description of a game before they purchase and having the info in the database will help... But then again we are just talking about badges...must probably just don't care either way...

I like the badges, but the thing I miss most is the edit counter so I could see how many edits I had and set goals on my quest for the highest edit badges.

We can always start a movement with something like Badges 2014, or the NAAB( The National Association for the Advancement of Badges)!

I'm not really on a "side", more like I'm indifferent.
While I'm all for merit based & motivational badges (edits, submissions, etc); the complaining about hell, even the existence of badges recognizing "Hey! Look at ME! I've bought ___ many games" badges (especially when most of us here are at a point in life where we *could* by ___ thousands of inexpensive games...whenever we felt like it) is, IMO, LOL-worthy! ::)

I noticed, that my Edits badge was updated, but I'm still waiting for my 3,000 items badge. :P
Yeah the edit badges are the only badges that seem to be working right now.
Congratulations on reaching 5000 edits! Heck, I am an admin here and only have the 2000 badge. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and I enjoy approving your edits because you actually read the style guide :P

Badges are kind of on the backburner at the moment. Only the edit badges work currently.
As far as the Pro badges go those have to be individually awarded by our head admin/programmer Jason. I have upgraded your forum status and you should see the badge in the next few days or so. :)

Looks like there were badges in the works for item submissions at one point. Not sure how difficult it would be to implement them.
@rgordill Oh there are badges for forum posts, editing and submitting. I've got them all designed, it's now just a matter of @matt implementing them. haha
