This month ended on Labor Day weekend here in the U.S. so we had another month with a slight lag in updates. But we're back and here we go with more stats! This month we broke a new users total milestone!
Users
This month we broke the 5,000 users mark! Of course, if you've frequented the forums in the last few weeks, you may have noticed a multitude of spam happening, and many of this number and probably dirtball spambots, which takes some of the sweetness away from this milestone.
- Total Registered Users: 5009
- New Users: 347
- Daily Average: 11
Items
This month was slightly slower than July was, but we've still added 833 new items to the database, bringing us passed the 28,000 items mark to a new total of 28,727. We also saw 2,702 edits to existing items!
- Total Items in Database: 28,727
- New Items: 833

This month we saw 15,717 items added to user's collections, bringing the grand total for items listed in collections up to 231,544! Members added 830 items to their wishlists and 232 items to their sell lists.
- Total Items in Collections: 231,544

That's it for this month, thanks to everyone for using the site and keeping things up to date. Keep up the good work folks!

Looks like some solid numbers there!

Great month everyone. I'm constantly amazed at the # of games in collections. 5000 members is a huge accomplishment too. We are working hard to tackle the spam problem and are putting a few solutions in place.

why is all the spam in russian??

this could be my head malfunctioning but i dont get it why is all the spam in russian when i think of scammers i think japan or china with all the gold farmers and and product knock offs
-
Heh I was just poking Disgaeniac ... but in all seriousness, there is spam for every language. Some of the ones we used to get on one of my other forums were symbols I had never seen before. We just happened to get lucky to get Russian. And if we get any more of the "good" ones, I wouldnt mind if you sent them to my inbox before you delete them!

Ha Ha!
Ask an obvious question...
:P
-
On my own blog (that I never advertise and will continue so), most of the spam is russian. I think it's pretty normal.

Quick question:
How do these stats work regarding "# of games added"?
I mean, if, say, there is 1 game added...and then 1 dupe deleted...do they 'cancel each other out?
If not - wouldn't this artificially inflate our monthly number of additions?
Just curious...
-
Is there anyway to find out which game/item appears in the most collections?

I think Scott just looks at the total from the end of the last month and compares it to the total from the end of this month so this wouldn't account for dupes. I don't think that dupes are THAT big a deal where we go from 1000 new entries to 500.
-
@jcalder8:
I think that you're probably right about there not being thousands of dupes deleted monthly, but, the "duplicate-listings" thread *DOES* get A LOT of action & use.
So, buy comparing the end of this month's totals to the total from the previous month is, in effect, counting every dupe as another game.
Maybe simply adding another new stat like: "Dupes Deleted" would make for a more accurate monthly reflection...

We run a total count on the entries in the database so the dupes aren't counted in the totals.

I bow before matt's expertise.

Thanks, Matt!

although i don't think they try to delete dupes, actually, but reassign the item numbers to new items.
with the number of moderators, that'd be too hard to keep track of, I'd assume.

Yeah we'd have to develop a new way to track those if we wanted to go down that path. I personally don't think it's needed as I'm really only concerned with the growth and we are pretty okay at catching dupes.

Now *that* sounds sensible, efficient, and logical to me ;D

*laughs* Thanks - was feeling kinda bleh yesterday and decided to buy the Pink Knight pack for my Steam copy of Castle Crashers, and it cheered me right up.
