(aka as the "How did you get here" topic/thread).
Topic & pretty self-explanatory -
How/where did you hear/see/read about/find out about, etc this site?
For me, I'd never heard of it until seeing it in Jobocan's signature somewhere on G*Faqs (probably on an RPG or PS3 board).
After being here awhile & liking the site & the community here...I also added it to my G*Faq's sig.
-
I came over in the beginning from DigitPress.
-
Darko told me about it. :)

I don't "get" it...was this site a spin-off from Digital press?

Not really, more like a project of a forum member.
I too came from there. :p

Ah yes, during that time when I was in super-troll mode (mostly because gamefaqers at that particular moment were being particularly ass), fun times :P
As for me, I was looking for a new site to catalog my collection back in *looks at profile* March 2011 (almost 2 years ago!), and this site popped up on google. The previous site I was on was called Playfire, but it morphed from a game collection website to a trophy/achievement tracking site, so I was gone like the wind.

Ha ha! We must still be stuck in that same "particular moment" then, 'cause not much has changed there in that regard :P
Also, must have most definitely been the PS3 board; IMO, that board is bad...even by "G*Faq's-Standards"!

Really early on...like a few days after I started coding the site...I made a post on DigitPress about it. I was really just looking to thoughts and suggestions on what the average collector was looking for in a site. Got tons of great feedback during those early days.

I followed foxhack here after he talked about it on DP.
-
Matt and I are lovers. Legit.

...Is it an "open" relationship -or- is Scott just jealous?!
;)

I too came from DP.

I came here because Disgaeniac kept poking and prodding me about it :)

I'm still waiting for you to go back and PROMOTE THE SITE, YOU KNOW

Nope, were just friends. I'm all about the ladies. :P
And I got here cause I'm friends with Matt, obviously. Our last project had become more work than play and had been dying off. Then a little after Christmas 2010 Matt sent me a link to the site and we started adding/testing it all out.

I've been looking fora decent collection site for a long time and I am not sure wich forum anymore but I stumbled on a link to this site and became instantly hooked :-)
-
Well I was using a crappy Word document and wanted something easier. Right around that time someone made a thread on AtariAge (http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/186283-tracking-your-collection/page__hl__+vgcollect#entry2348524) about video game tracking software and one of the suggestions was this site from tpugmire.
-
Google for me... Was scrounging around on the internet over a year ago and tried Backloggery for a quick second but decided that the design and community for VGC was much more preferable!
-
Google for me too, just typed video game collection community or something, and the website came up.
-
I was looking for an android app. I was reading reviews on some random pay app and some suggested the vgcollect app. I found the app then I found the site. A huge bonus being that the firewall at work lets me come here. I waste a lot of work time on this forum.

Indeed!

My boss doesn't like me coming here.
Then again I am my own boss.

I think I Googled "video game collection database" or something to that effect after the previous website I belonged to (listal.com) no longer suited my needs. It was a multi-functional site where you could make lists and also pertained to movies, tv shows, books, etc. It had a user-contributed database/image function, and that was its downfall. The first few years I was active on it, people actually used it for its intended purpose, but then a lot of traffic from Google and other sites eventually turned it into a porn site. I deleted all of my lists, etc. and moved here since video games were my primary interest anyway. I had tried out The Backloggery, but found that VGC suited me better. :)
-
I was trying for a couple of years to find a good database site, but Google was never able to find anything where I could make my own lists; all it ever brought me was to people that made their own blogs showing off their own collection... So I was using the classic "make a Word/Excel document" to keep track of all I had, but it was always a mess and it would have been a pain to put all the details on everything...
So, about a week ago, Google threw me a bone and sent me to VGC... and it's exactly what I was looking for. A super detailed but still easy to manage and modify collection database.

i was looking for a mobile way to keep track of my games and wishlist... so i looked it up and vgcollect app was there soo i downloaded and loved it... i just wished the wishlist would hurry up lol... i wanna go to some flea markets and yard sales in serous buy mode!!
-
For now we've been telling folks to try using the mobile site. http://mobile.vgcollect.com
That's what I've been using to check my wishlist on the go, until we can get the app updated. Works great for me, of course I never find anything on my wishlist in the wild though, so...

I was looking for some kind of video game collectors list, program type thing to try and help me keep track of what games I have. As I collect games from at least 15 different systems it's hard to remember what games and accessories I have for them. I stumbled across this site, and well I was originally looking for a program to download, this site was so much better then anything else I looked at, better organized and user friendly. I was hooked, and as an added bonus, a forum full of fellow game collectors to talk with. :)

haha. Someday! But for now just use the mobile site.

There was a topic on MAL looking for a MAL for video games and someone suggested this site.
-
I saw the "My Collection" widget in somebody's signature on another forum. So I checked the place out.

You can blame Jobocan for me being here. We were both members of Asalieri.com (long story don't feel like getting into it) anyway, A topic on the site came up about collecting sites. He posted a link to this one and I pretty much abandoned The Backloggery. Not that it's a bad site mind you. I just prefer the community database over the basic collection database.

Same here, all around (prefer the community *and* Jobocan's guilty of me finding my way here, too) :P

I know the owner of this site. He told me to show up. So I did. Worst decision I ever made.

Why is that?
-
Cause now he's hooked and has to input all his games into his collection.

This! I was one of the firsts too... at least I think so lol

Haha exactly. I'm looking at around 300 pieces of handheld games/hardware/etc, plus anouter 400+ on Steam, others on GOG.com and Origin. Not to mention retail games that aren't any part of an online distribution platform. But nah, matt and I are cool. We share the same name.

THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE
:) welcome to the site!

I just recently came to this site. I started watching the retro collecting youtube community. Youtubers like Ninjabearhug mention the site retrocollect a lot. However, that site is very PAL oriented. And being a yankee, I tend to collect NTSC and this site seems to have a proper database for the region.
So far, this seems like a great site and community. I look forward to getting more and more involved.

Welcome aboard, fellow Yank ;)
