I didn't see a thread for this, sorry if there already was one I didn't find it.
Thought it would be cool to have a thread to post your latest additions to the VGCollect database. This might help users know that stuff was added that they can now add to their collection/wishlist, since the latest additions sidebar only shows the last few.

Get this - the item has an NTSC-J code, and Japanese packaging and manuals... and one manual in Chinese / English. And the obi strip has Chinese, too. Were Playstation games released in Hong Kong?
I also added the second release of Garfield: Caught in the Act for PCs, and my recent PC arrivals from Goozex: Iron Man and Hulk.

Haha no big deal :P Looking back on it, I guess I misunderstood the fields... It says "Name (English name)" and "Alt-Name (Original language title or 'also known as')". I thought the alt-name was for the original title and the name was for the english meaning or something. :-\
Now it all makes more sense! I was wondering too why some names were written in japanese. I'm sometimes not too quick to catch on things haha :P

Here's an odd one: A jewel case release of the original Resident Evil (http://vgcollect.com/item/38072). This is the longbox version, more or less, released before the Director's Cut.
I also added a version of Resident Evil 3 Nemesis with a different cover (does not include the Dino Crisis demo disc) and the Greatest Hits version. I'm surprised that wasn't here yet.
Also added both versions of Beatmania (PS1 PAL) - the game and the controller bundle.

I edited many of the Wii U accessories and submitted a few new ones. I'm not sure what you want to call the remotes though. If you look at the box they are called Wii Remote Plus and are in Wii U packaging (http://vgcollect.com/item/38691). However, I tried to follow the other listings -- though I did edit them to match what I wrote for the pink and blue ones -- so I went with Wii U Remote Plus. Feel free to change them to whatever you want (Wii Remote Plus or Wii U Wii Remote Plus or leave them as is).

They're not about a particular game, but they are both most definetly about video games. They're as much of a video game movie as The Wizard is.
Grandma's Boy follows a development team and particular developer and his personal game.
Gamer is about a video game played with live people.

I would say that movies related to actual video game franchises would stay. But movies with just a video game centric plot would go.
Documentaries and the like, I don't have a problem with them staying.

Pretty much - I doubt anyone would ever try to argue that Advent Children (as a movie) doesn't belong.
I think that "swag" is (probably intentionally) a vague & 'umbrella' type of category -and- the only "rule" that *I* follow when it comes to it is:
If *I* want to track it/count it as part of my collection; well...I do.
If not = I don't.

This gets tricky, too. I can see why people don't want Gamer and Grandma's Boy, since the games in those movies don't actually exist.
But what about The Wizard, which isn't about a particular game, but has lots of Nintendo stuff in it. Or how about a movie like Wreck-It-Ralph, that also isn't about a particular game, but has game characters in it?

I don't know. The Wizard and Wreck-It-Ralph are strange cases. The Wizard is basically a giant commercial for Nintendo, where Ralph taps that nostalgia factor of older gamers by showcasing a ton of cameos by characters we all know and love.

My gut is telling me that movies like Wizard, Wreck-it-Ralph, Gamer, Grandma's Boy, etc. don't belong here. While I appreciate any effort at rounding out the section I think we should hold off on any more additions. This'll let us admins try to figure out what we want to do.
The last thing I want is for us to limit what a user can and cannot do but there has to be some more definite guidelines in place.

Another example (for mod/admin/community consideration & discussion) would be something like some of my Blu-Rays that are...oh...for an example: let's say something like my Video-Game Music (awards, performances of video game orchestral pieces, interviews w/ people like Ralph Baer, etc); yeah, there's a *NAME* for this thing that I'm thinking/talking about -but- I just can't think of/remember the name of it at the moment.
*IMO*, I would definitely feel like something like this would be relevant/belong - what do the rest of you all think?

Matt brings up a very good point about what we each constitute as being part of our game "collection." It does get a little tricky when things are related to videogames, and as much as I connect videogames to a film like The Wizard, I wouldn't necessarily shelve it with my videogames but would instead shelve it with my film collection.
We have to remember that if we keep it too open, even if things are directly related to a franchise, the website will then go on to include things like the Mario-themed version of Monopoly and toothbrushes and whatnot.
But who's to say that toothbrushes aren't reasonable additions when plushies are. I'm looking forward to seeing what the admins decide!

What we're still not completely 100% sure about are items such as fiction films that are about video games, but aren't tied to games that actually exist (documentaries about videogames are OK.) The aforementioned examples added by burningdoom, for example. The ... CDI, was it? Had a ton of movies released for it and I think we ended up saying that we didn't need to have them in the database either. I also have a few movies on DVD that are videogame related but I wouldn't add them without making sure they're okay first.
We just need to make the guidelines clear.

While we're at it, where should the line be for swag items in general? For promotional items, in my opinion, it's logical to have them in the database. But what about licensed but "smaller-scale" products? Like candies, they have their own category (with food), but is it okay to add them all? Or gashapon items, they are in pretty high number. I've added a lot of swag items recently, but I restrained myself too because I didn't want to add too many either.

That's the thing.
The Wizard has ties to real, existing games. Whereas Gamer and Grandma's Boy do not.

That's more or less how I make the distinction. If it directly relates to the actual contents of a particular game - strategy guides, soundtracks, artbooks, even plushies - then I treat it as part of the overall collection. Anything else is just kind of this standalone other thing, so I wouldn't include toothbrushes or movies.
Honestly though, I think it'd be kind of a meh issue if we could sift out that stuff from search results. For long-running series in particular, things get messy really quickly when you're trying to find a game and scrolling through a huge string of little toys and crap.

It's an interactive movie. While it is closer to a "Choose your own adventure" type of book, it's still considered a game.

I wasn't apologizing for the addition, foxhack, I was apologizing for the timing that I submitted the information on. Prior to knowing that matt posted that we should hold off on additions, I was busy adding my swag for bragging rights.

I saw an interview with the creators of this. They make it sound VERY damn good. They said they're huge fans of the original movie, and wanted to make a terrifying, claustrophobic game that mirrored that same feeling the first movie gave you. Instead of being a bad-ass Marine armed to the teeth like in most Alien games, they want to make you a normal person that has to use what's in their environment as their only weapons and tools (again, like the original movie). It just sounds so cool the way the describe it, and the actual excitement in their voice as they tell it. You can really tell it was a labor of love for them.
BTW, I STILL need to play Aliens: Infestation for DS. I've heard from a lot of people that it feels a lot like a 2D Metroid game, which is all I need to hear to want it.

Agreed, I just hope it turns out to a great survival horror game. I like that fact that you play as Amanda (Ellen Ripley's daughter) and they use the terms "Underpowered & Unprepared" rather than some marine that shoots anything that moves. Really gives off that whole Alien atmospheric feel of the first movie. Keeping an eye out for this title to see what it will become.

Yeah, I also never knew till recenly. Spartan X 2 was never released outside Japan though. came out in '91 and the SNES was release by then. But it looks fun from what I've seen.

Seems like they did indeed. We Activision/Blizzard QA testers were completely separated from Beenox developers, so I wasn't aware of stuff going on there. In video games development, everything is just so secretive, it's kinda crazy! But competition is high, and so it's important to have everything safe.

Picked up Mass Effect and Gears of War for the 360. Thanks to everyone who helped with my 360 wish list on the forums. These were pretty cheap so I got them first. :)

Pretty slow going because I have a crazy job and a family I love to spend time with. Oh and I like to play video games with my free time (not that I know what free time is any longer).
I would love to get the Dreamcast section robust. I have a soft spot for it in my heart.

Just out of curiosity (because I have no clue how the site is managed) - is there any thought or is it currently being handled that there are subject experts for each console or for each manufacturer?
If not - it might be nice to split up the edit requests and tasks based on this. There could be a Nintendo expert, or a Gamecube expert or something of that sort.
Just a suggestion and not trying to say the site is currently not working properly. I love this site since I stumbled upon it!
EDIT: Sorry, but I can't seem to find a link anywhere of how to donate or support the site. How does that work. I'm sure it is right in front of my face and I am just overlooking it.

Apparently there's a few New Super Mario Bros. (DS) variants. I just found that the game was rereleased in a red case in 2011 - and that it has TWO cover art variants (Red or White Nintendo logo.)

Ah, okay. I'll do that now :) And yeah, It's cool having some kinda semi-obscure games that not everyone talks about. Most of the games I have for the system came with the system when I bought it from a charity shop for £30 (They were in a box in a big cassette case) and then I ended up ordering Star Wars off of Amazon because I have fond memories of playing that game in the arcade back when I was younger

In the title would be fine. That way you can't have double's in the database.

No no, you only need to do that on games that have multiple versions! If a game was only released on cassette, and not on disc or cart, then there's no need to add that.

I once found a box filled with 150-200 C64 3.5" disks. Most were home made, probably downloaded by whoever owned them; but a few were retail software, office-type stuff. I wish I could've brought it home with me. :(

You used an European cover for this one - that's an ESLPA rating on the front. If that's the cover for your game then it -might- be European, but I've seen games with European and American ratings on the box or discs. Could you double check, please?
That was the closest pic I could find to the cover of the manual. The disc case has no cover art.
I did find this though, which is probably correct but since it was at an angle I didn't know if it would work.

The only difference between this pic and the manual that the T rating is not on the manual cover, but it is on the discs. The Total War logo is on the left and the Activision logo is on the right on it though. Should I just scan it? I only have the discs and manual so...yeah.

I verified that both versions are for sale on Ebay. Both have same item number and everything else is the same except the different logo usage. Also the Global Star appears to have different colored copyright text on the disc ring.

Looks like some 1st party cases are red now. It's far, far too broad of a thing to have for an entry, and I'm not willing to lump it all together on a site dedicated to intricate detail for collecting. Perhaps a subsection in Merchandise can be made for Pokemon cards and their respective sets for a more comprehensive list in the future, since it's related to gaming (and if Skylanders can have them, I'm going to rally for Pokemon cards to the teeth!), but for now, I have to say sorry. I'll put it in my notebook though!

You're comparing Skylanders, something which doesn't have that many items to start with... to pokemon cards, of which there are thousands. In several sets. In lots of countries.
There are dedicated pokemon card collector sites. This is not one of them. :|

I went through and updated (almost) all the Amiibo entries. Cropped white out of images. One thing I noticed when looking for new images was that there's a difference between NA and UK/AU packaging. NA has 6+ in the top right corner and UK/AU has the name of character there instead. I didn't update Meta Knight because I couldn't find a large enough image that was the NA version. With this all said does this mean we should have a new set of listings for PAL and everywhere else? OOMMGG!!!!

I found a Wii game at a garage sale today that wasn't in the database called Mathews Bowhunting. then found out that there is an actual bow for the Wii controller that came with it, so I added the bundle too. so double bonus! I wonder if there are any other Wii games out there hiding and forgotten :'(

I'm going to be adding the Toad Wii Remote soon. Since this version has only come out in Japan thus far the packaging all says states Kinopio (his [/its] Japanese name). Despite this should I title the entry Toad because that name is generally more used throughout the world. "Kinopio" could go under the alternate name perhaps? The same issue will come up with Bowser's controller since his japanese name is Koopa. (-which is also exclusive to Japan)

I don't believe I saw that edit... but folks usually add pictures of multiple discs on a single image. If you can, please add an image of the game and music disc as the disc art.

Question for admins:
Can the original Japanese name written in Japanese be put into the Alt-Name section (i.e. レイギガント for Ray Gigant)? When making the submission for the new entry, the field says "Original language title or 'also known as'". The original language title part makes me think that it should work, but the style guide doesn't really clarify things. It says the title for the entry needs to be written in English (or romaji in the case of these Japanese games I just added), but it doesn't really say not to for the alt-name. I did this for Ray Gigant and Utawarerumono just now, but stopped for the rest since I wasn't sure if it was following the proper submission style or not.
Sorry for the trouble if I was doing it incorrectly.

Haha it does! It was actually the only version available at first. The CD was apparently only distributed by the Arcade Block monthly box, and so unavailable for purchase in stores :-\ I can't believe how lucky I was to stumble upon it at Geekfest this week-end!

So, we now have a ton of digital Xbox One games that need to be transferred over to the new Live category. I made a list of all the digital ones that needed to be moved over in early September.

Hehe, yeah, I recently discovered the helpful skew box grid tool thingie in Photoshop. I prefer it to be a straight shot if possible with little to no editing, but sometimes some cover art is better than no or incorrect cover art.

I only enter entries into the database when I get a new game and can't find it here.
I always enter PAL versions of games which I notice is in relative short supply here (as well as platinum additions) unless it is a very well known game.

If anything, please do not use the description field for gameplay/plot info. That field is actually reserved for any information that's pertinent to that variation of the game, if applicable. Like a list of the items included if it were a collector's edition or if it has any identifying markers that make it different from other variations.

I wonder if there is a way to see how many items you've created. I add so many and keep track of my own progress, but not how many I end up adding. I did make a thread once upon a time, but my methodology has changed where tracking it in a thread like that doesn't make sense.

Yeah I used to like seeing additions and edits listed on our profiles. Great for tracking progress towards goals. Pretty sure Scott had some submission badges in the works too before they all stopped working :'(

I finally finished adding all the Sega games on Nintendo DS. Europe is a pain! But now I am moving onto other things... and they are not getting any better. I started the initial cleanup of Alien: Isolation games, fixing up the names. Noting what we have and what needs to be added.
There are around 70! (at least!) physical releases of Alien: Isolation that are not currently in the database. Don't worry, I have them all written out and will be adding them over the course of the week. :'(

I was updating my GB/GBC titles and at some point decided it was a good idea to add in box text for a good 50-75+ titles. OY...that's a rabbit hole I wish I didn't jump into. :o

After some research, it seems that it released a whole week earlier in Canada than in the US. I used the earlier Canadian release date for the database entry and mentioned the differences in the description field. Should we have separate entries for the Canadian and US releases, or stick to one unless there's actually a difference in the system (barcode, etc.) between the two regions?

There should only be one entry, presuming it is exactly the same. If there is some difference, then there can be an additional entry. i would recommend that the US release date be added to the entry, and then put the Canada release date in the Description field.

Just added the first wave releases of figures/crystals for Skylanders: Imaginators. It was rather aggravating trying to scare up some decent images to use for the listings. The stock images that are available weren't straight on shots of the figure packaging. >:(
I'm hoping at some point, better stock images are made available so the listings can be updated. I was actually rather perplexed at the utter lack of information regarding the figures. Amazon only just now updated their info on them and they (as well as Wal-Mart) only have a limited selection of figures listed, roughly half of the ones released.
Also, anyone savvy enough to be able to convert some PNG images I have to JPEG so I can add them to the listings of some of the Starter Packs?

Original entry was the canadian version. Unchecked until now, the guy who created the "new" entry had tried to replace the front art on the existing entry. I had to check because I saw the ESRB was different on both images. The original entry was created as the Canadian version. So the art replace was rejected, original entry add [CA] to title, and the new item was made that you see in the new item feed.
TL;DR: Tenchu Z entry that already existed was a "listing error" since it was created and no one noticed.

I've been trying to update all the Limited Run/Special Reserve/ Whatever releases in the database. At the very least they usually have that ugly stock sideways art with the Limited Run watermark on them so I've been replacing those.
Might need some help with it, I'm working through just the PS4 games and it's already quite an endeavor. Not to mention all the vita and Switch releases

I have been asked by a system administrator to look over the Commodore 64 entries to figure out which disk-based games are listed in the cassette category (because of legacy listings).
I may be relatively new to this site, but I bought my first C64 in 1984. And I just finished adding 60-or-so carts to the listing.

Over the past few days and more to come, I've been working on adding as many details for listings of items I own, having finished PlayStation, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch as of now. Obviously, completing all of the box text is what's taking the longest, but the work pays off in seeing a full listing being approved to update.
Also, some featured items I created listings for recently include the Only On PlayStation Collection of ten PlayStation 4 titles that was exclusively released in Europe in 2019.

During the middle of July I made an effort to ensure ALL PS3 PSN "classics" listings for North America region are non-missing -- at least according to currently for-sale games (a few dozen have been delisted in the last 5 years).
The game types involved were specifically:
PlayStation Network
- PSone Classics [NA] (https://vgcollect.com/browse/ps1classics (https://vgcollect.com/browse/ps1classics))
- PlayStation 2 Classics [NA] (https://vgcollect.com/browse/ps2classics (https://vgcollect.com/browse/ps2classics))
Before this about 15 - 20 PSN games were missing from each of those categories.
FYI: In the entries that I added I believe I always populated "Item Number" though in practice this field seems rarely populated on VGC for PSN games.
For instance, in the PSN store URL for "The Adventure of Cookie & Cream" (PS2 classic):

I didn't do a deep dive on the Lynx games in EU, I was only looking at Ishido as that is where I am at on the Amiga update I am doing. Now if there was some EU version with an import label, it would be good enough, even if that label was only on sealed copies. For Ishido, none of the sealed copies in EU had any label on the plastics, and had the same copyright text and barcode as the sealed copies being sold in US. Now I am also aware of the situation that having 20+ years of internet commerce can cause region free console games to cross oceans in large numbers, so even the sealed Ishido games on EU Ebay could very well just be US releases that were imported years ago.
So the "merge/delete" response is on the table, if nothing is done regarding these EU Lynx entries by the time I get to it on my worksheet... Which is after Amiga and then after sorting out the Lynx console boxes (current US console entries appear to have EU boxes for front art) and then I will be looking at these entries. And if there hasn't been any change on the EU Lynx game front by then, I will only be doing a pedestrian look into each entry, and if no EU/NA difference is found, then the items will be merged or deleted.
I estimate the time frame before I get to it be to perhaps 2-4 weeks. 8)

Here's where we're at concerning the Atari Lynx Hardware (please correct me if I have made a mistake)
1. There are some limited packs and these seem fine. US has California Games, Deluxe Pack and one with a large yellow label on it. EU has 2 different Batman Returns packs. Simple enough.
2. The "Model 1" gray boxed consoles are the US boxes, but they come in two sizes.
3. The "Model 1" white box is English/French and has an "English" manual (C302154-001)
4. There are more than two models for the console. Models ending in 01 are US or NA models, those ending in 00 are European.
5. The five language white box ( seen on here (https://vgcollect.com/item/18015) ) was used in both US and EU. For EU release, the box has checkboxes on one side to indicate the model included. Because there are shared boxes, UPC/EAN is same.
6. There is a large amount of US models in EU and also what appears to be aftermarket piecemealing in boxed samples... for example, known EU box having US system in it. Same goes for manuals. There is no consitency regarding what is included for EU models.
What I am going to do, and also recommend, is that until someone can find definitive information as to how EU releases were put together, that our entries be set "by the box" without variation. In other words, not using NA or EU. This is going to leave out specific models, which apparently aren't being considered on the site as it is. For example the PAG-0300 which I have found for sale or sold in various boxes.

After reviewing this, I cannot even confirm it now. There seems to be no consensus as to which type of box came from which country. I looked at many different Lynx sites and they all have conflicting information (showing US consoles being EU and vice versa on various sites) In regards to gray box, they are seem all over US and EU ebay, but some sites say they were only sold in Japan and Taiwan.
So the category is updated a little, but there are still many more box versions out there. Feel free to put in the console pictures where they are needed.
The "Model 1" is only left as [NA] and [EU], the ones with pack-ins are named appropriately BUT for some the only ones I could confirm were imported versions. They are noted as needed. The rest of the ones are a mix of model 1 and 2 and the descriptor is primary C number from the box. Unfortunately there are some that are different and have the same PA number, which I originally was going to use, so the C number will have to do for now.

I just spent time looking at North American Halo 3 variants. I've confirmed four separate releases and am unsure about one other. More than likely, those with the original entry in their collection own something else, as this is the only variant I cannot confirm. Below are the four confirmed variants and the one unconfirmed variant:

From the current back image art, it appears that there is no "Made in" text in the bottom-right corner. The reason I personally didn't go out of my way in submitting the entry is because only users themselves know what items they own. Does halfaworldaway own this specific item? The IT version? A variant we're unaware of?

After about 10 days of work and over 1,400 edits later, the Skylanders category has been completely redone. All of the chase variants have been added to the database, including the extremely rare ones such as Happy Birthday Ben Starcast, clear Whirlwind, and red Camo. All employee/event variants are accounted for, as well as all of the traps, vehicles, creation crystals, and the UFO hat preorder cards. Most of the portals have also been added with their respective model numbers and platform compatibility. The only items not added were unreleased prototype figures like Heartbreaker Buckshot. There's still some work to be done as far as the item numbers and barcodes go for the figures, but so far I'm quite happy with the current progress. Unfortunately some entries had to be converted to EU-specific (no way around it), so if anyone has any Skylanders in their collection, make sure to check and see if you need to change them.

Working on the mobile categories currently, specifically Android but some iOS occasionally. I know a lot of the users here don't have much interest in mobile gaming but it's still quite fun and rewarding to add everything anyways. I've got about 19-20 pages worth of listings submitted so far and I'm really starting to run out of ideas... :-\ Trying to avoid making listings for the ocean of complete garbage and bootleg games that we all know plague all of the app stores, only adding the most popular of the junk like My Talking Tom. Anyone have any suggestions for games/series to work on or look at?
Once I hit a certain point with the Android category, I'll switch over to iOS and basically "copy" mostly everything over, if anyone has any suggestions for iOS too.

I tend to do my site additions based off a resource site. I don't think I have one on my to-do list that is specifically about mobile games, but there are some resources. GameFAQs and Mobygames have sections for Android and IOS.

The iOS category is now progressing slowly.
I realized the most important thing in submitting bulk entries like these to a nearly empty category is that sheer quantity is more important than filling out every single detail. If someone new comes to the site and sees these tiny mobile categories they will probably be turned off. As a result, I have chosen to stop researching the developer and release date info and instead will leave them blank for now. Reasons for this being that the app store pages always avoid listing the developers like the plague and the release dates are always inconsistent: firstly, the Apple App Store doesn't list release dates anywhere, instead it's nestled away in the source code for each game (Ctrl+F and search for "datePublished"). Secondly, I've noticed this date can be the date of the prerelease. If a game is put up for preorder or a soft launch, many times the release date on the store pages will reflect that date instead of the actual launch. Or, if a game was republished for any reason, the date will reflect the second launch. It has become so time-consuming trying to verify these dates and developers across like 5-10 different websites and news articles on my extremely poor rural internet so I have chosen to just forgo adding them entirely.
When I can get access to better internet, I'll definitely go back and research the correct dates and developers for this category. If anyone knows of a good source to find this info, I'd love to hear it (not MobyGames, not GameFAQs, not Wikipedia)
Also, I've definitely noticed that my earlier entries from May/early June had a lot of mistakes, so I apologize for that greatly.

Well think of it this way. There is currently over 2000 games in C64 cassettes EU category. It is hard to judge exactly how many there are on the site without going through all the C64 sections, but C64 cassette EU is the largest of the bunch. It is also hard to know exactly how many games were released but you can find numbers like 10,000 if you search online. A data collector I talked to recently said that there are at least 20,000 roms for C64. Understanding how rom collections work, these aren't going to include the duplicates for re-releases and it is unknown if it includes releases that were on multiple formats or have code revisions. But we also need to be aware that there could be a large portion of those that are only in compilations or covertapes from magazines, or released after the life of the computer.
And then I've also heard that there are likely even more ZX Spectrum releases than C64. And again, it is unknown if these numbers include re-releases or not. Or for example the Spanish Spectrum library which is similarly immense.
And then there is PC sections of which we are missing a ton despite us already having a ton.

It's interesting to see when some of the most popular entries in terms of collection count are completely wrong. For the original NA Uncharted 2: Among Thieves entry, the front art was unused stock art, back art was watermarked, and the media art was a EU disc. It just goes to show how much of the database there is to still improve.
There are at least two three cover variants for the standard release, two of which were missing. Since the original item is so popular, I figured I'd mention it here for greater visibility now that there are three entries.
