Rules:
-Please add only 1 game per post.
-Please allow others to post before posting again (to prevent this from becoming 1 person's list)
-Please do not repeat games that have already appeared on the list.
-This list is not supposed to be in order of greatest-to-least-greatest, it's a build-as-we-go list.
-Since this was questioned on the last thread: Multiple entries from the same series are acceptable. For example, if someone mentioned Donkey Kong Country, you can still name Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

Putting it first so I don't forget I put it later :P People tend to forget the Genesis also got this game. It's the NES version, but with crappier graphics, crappier music and slower gameplay so it's actually easier... Though it's still quite tough, and still pretty fun.

I see this game come up in a lot of top Genesis games lists. And I've got to wonder if people are remembering the much better beat-em up arcade game of the same name (with mechs!). The Genesis/Master System version of the game has always come off as dull, repetitive, and boring to me. Open door after door, on floor after floor just doesn't appeal to me. And the hit-detection always felt clunky to me.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not saying it shouldn't be on the list. I was just putting my two-cents in about the game.

I never played the arcade game, so I don't have much to compare it to (I did see videos and it looks decent).
I actually like the Genesis game. It's a bit repetitive, but the levels change their design often enough... And killing enemies by making them dance is just the most awesome thing ever :P

I'm starting to think there are a lot of nintendo kids on this forum. Let's not get stuck on #65. There are plenty of gems not even mentioned yet. It seems we have been focusing on the exclusives, which it amazes me looking at the list how many great exclusives this machine has. But remember it also shared some great games that were mentioned on the SNES list that do deserve to be here as well (Mortal Kombat, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Street Fighter, Earthworm Jim) plus several FANTASTIC exclusives not yet mentioned (Outrun, AfterBurner, Space Harrier, Kid Chameleon, Decap Attack). Don't slow down yet!

Wasn't the Wily Wars officially released via the Sega Channel? If thats the case, then it is an official game... its just, you can't actually buy a legit retail copy, since none ever existed.

I wanted to put Monster World 4. Honestly, I think all three of these belong on the list. Plus, the title does say that it is the top Genesis/MEGA DRIVE games. So, I would think PAL or NTSC-J releases are fine.

While Im a Sega fan, I agree with it being hard. I only added one game I think cause the other one was taken. I really didnt care for the shining games all that much and all that was left for me to play on a Genesis was Vermillion and Phantasy Star. IV was the best so thats the one that would have been my other choice.
I want to second the "dont do a gamegear" list. I cant imagine that many good games on the system. And even though its one of my absolute favorite systems, I wouldnt be all for an SMS list either. Mostly cause there was only around 120 SMS NA games anyhow! Could maybe do a top 25 or so.

I think that there is a chance of a top 75 or 50 SMS games, as for the Game Gear... I don't see it. Next we should do either the 2600, saturn, ps1 or N64

While Im a Sega fan, I agree with it being hard. I only added one game I think cause the other one was taken. I really didnt care for the shining games all that much and all that was left for me to play on a Genesis was Vermillion and Phantasy Star. IV was the best so thats the one that would have been my other choice.

I don't know about some of those games. T2: Judgement Day was horrible. It was just the port of the LJN game (LJN being Acclaim's publishing company for crappy NES games and Flying Edge being that for SEGA). Also, wonder boy does not exist on the Game Gear... only the Revenge of Drancon. :P
But you did miss some really good ones. Crystal Warriors for instance. It's like a very early final fantasy tactics type game. It's amazing!
Halley Wars is a good GG shmup. A respectable Battletoads port made its way over.
Since you added Phantasy Star and opened the door for imports. The GG has two aleste games. I repeat it has TWO ALESTE games! Freakin' sweet! There is also Magic Knight Rayearth, Coca Cola Kid, etc.
There are plenty more. I think a top 50 would be doable. But when you are talking 242/243 games, a top 100 would be difficult. Especially since about 8 of them are card games of some sort. But I am a game gear fan and slowly working on a complete set.

Yeah, we both have imports on each of our lists. Even without imports, I have no real issue with putting wonder boy down. I just find the name conventions in wonder boy games mind boggling and humorous. Why wonder boy is called Revenge of Drancon only in the US and only on the game gear is just strange. The box art was very misleading as well.

Nobody mentioned Master of Monsters either which I only rented but know I liked it quite a bit. Aerobiz is one I've heard is great but never had a chance to play it. For Master System I might stick to 50 or less for the US, though if people are familiar with the European releases then you might be able to get more. I can't really participate in Nintendo lists since I've played so little on their platforms outside of Game Boy.

Oh yeah, there are several Genesis games left. Outrun and Street Fighter immediately come to mind. They were definitive for the time and/or system.
