Title: NES Protos
Post by: darko on September 17, 2011, 05:15:03 pm
So I have a friend who ran across protos of Kiwi Kraze Island Rainbow Island at a flea market today. He picked them up for $3 a piece. I'm not a proto collector so I have no idea what they're actually worth. Any insight?

Did he get those at the old Paris flea market?

Man, I rarely go, but when I do its always a bunch of crap it seems. Would he consider parting with those or does he like stuff like that?

He's looking for potential buyers right now. I'm interested but I'm not really into protos so I have no idea what they're worth. Do you have any idea?

Well I haven't seen a lot of protos, so its hard to say. When I lived in Vegas there was a good vintage game store called Game World, and they had a few there. I remember one of them being 150.00, but it was on Super NES. I think it was the most expensive one they had. They had a NFL quarterback club for SNES as well and it was 75.00. I never thought twice about them at the time because I wasn't a focused collector, and that was a lot of money for a single cart. Figure out what he might want for them and send me a text to 702.235.2933 and we can discuss privately.

I've actually be doing prototype shopping lately (haven't found one I want yet), but I bet those would go for $200 - $300 if offered on NintendoAge.

I'd have to bow out at that price, they aren't that important to me.

Yeah, agreed. I'll point my friend in the right direction though. Thanks! If anyone here wants them let me know and I'll get you in contact with him.

I'd gladly snap up any proto and would love to have a few in my collection. He should try to get them to someone who will dump them properly before selling them off.

Yeah. That's a good point.

Just a little update...my friend sold the two together for $400. Not a bad return on a $6 investment. I'm pretty sure the guy he sold them to will be dumping the roms.
