Well at long last, here is VGCollect version 2 BETA!
So as most of you know, a month back I set myself a hard deadline and have been working hard trying to meet that goal. The deadline had to be set or else this day would have never come. That being said, there are a lot of things that I wasn't able to squeeze in to this release. Before I go into new features, let me just start listing things that don't work as of right now.
Feed
Badges and User profiles
Advanced Search
Removing items from collection wish list, sell list
New game submissions
New game edits
Pagniation
Responsive design
and on and on and on.
Some of these are huge and I know some of you are probably asking why I just didn't push this back a bit more. The truth is that I had to push it out. It's been sitting here and you guys have been patiently waiting for it.
So here is the plan. I'm going to be pushing out updates all night (and throughout the rest of this week) to get us back up and running at 100%.
Until now, feel free to fill this thread with any issue you have found. I will do my best to address everything in a timely manner.
The good news is that we finally have a stable foundation to build on. The backend that powers VGCollect is now up to date and ready to handle our growth.
Thanks again for all your support. The community here exceeds my expectations on a daily basis. Keep up the good work and I'll do the same.
Now I have some coding to do...
Thanks,
Matt

Admin is down :o

Admin is down :o
Yup. I mentioned that to Matt too. I NEED TO DO STATS! D:
-
guess that means we're all stripped of our admin titles
it's been fun, guys
(on a serious matter, looks like the site signature is dead too, but it should probably have a new design anyhow. Someone should toss it over to me and I'll take care of it.)
-
Nah, he's fixing it.

It looks good. I'm looking forward to playing with the search.
Let us now when the transmogrification update is live.
-
I like the looks far, gentlemen. Good work.

Can I just carry a ban stick? I don't want responsibility, just a big hammer.
-
I just want to be able to approve my own edits. :P
-
So far I'm liking the new look. ;)
-
Sigs are back! I can check that one off the list.
/edit
Just fixed admins now too.
Currently working on user registration and item edits.
-
Hm. There's a blank entry on the top of my wish list for some reason.
-
Looks great thus far! Great job :D
-

Hmm.. there is actually a blank entry in the db for you. I removed it.
-
it looks great. thank you for all the hard work you have been putting in.
-
Thanks for working on this. Many sites like this promise updates and fixes, but often procrastinate forever before doing anything. So it really instills confidence knowing that VGCollect backs up what they promise.

Thanks and thanks! VGCollect isn't going anywhere and will only keep getting better and better. It's been a rough few weeks. Between this, work, social life and being in the process of buying a home. I'm literally had no time. I'll be taking a vacation once this task list is slimmed down.
-
Partially my fault. We had a b-day BBQ at my house on Saturday. If I had left him chained to his desk the list would be much smaller. :)
-
When I try to look a category in my collection (i.e. SNES) I can only see the first page. The pages only move you through your entire collection.

Just came here to say this, too.
Except with PS2. I own no SNES games. :P
Standard search seems to be broken too, I get a results page with an amount of games, but nothing is displayed.
Follower / Following doesn't seem to work either, it keeps showing me -my own- pages.

Whatcha mean by the search?
All the other ones are known and are on my list.

Whatcha mean by the search?
This (http://vgcollect.com/search/romancing+saga+2) says there's 10 results, but shows nothing.
This (http://vgcollect.com/search/romancing) shows 4 results. And it says there's 10 results.
This shows a ton of results (http://vgcollect.com/search/fighters) but still, it says there's 10 results.
-
Got it. Working on that now.
I just fixed all of the Add Buttons on the item pages. Those should all work now.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAH YOU CHANGED THE FORUM FONT
-
AAAAAAAAAAAH YOU CHANGED THE FORUM FONT
That's what I thought! And he said he didn't touch anything.... lol
-
Weird. Haven't touched anything in /forum. I wonder if it was pointing to a style sheet that I got rid of....I'll investigate.
-
Whoops, that was me. I was going to say something, but nothing updated for me on my side. Seriously, it's still the pixel logo for me, oddly. If it has to be changed, just change all instances of "font-family: Open Sans;" back to Arial or whatever the original was.
EDIT: okay NOW it's updated for me. And it looks good, you guys ;) ;)
-
I love the new look! Great job guys!
Edit: I'm not sure if it's a known issue or not but the next button to scoll through my collection just keeps taking me back to the first page.

Yep known and working on it! My eyelids are getting heavy tho...it may have to wait until tomorrow.

I reverted it back for now. Feel free to work on your updates just don't publish anything yet. Way too many other things are broken right now.

Aye, cap'n. :) Got it saved on N++.

Great job, Matt. I really like the new formula! :)
-
It looks cool. I did notice that my super admin status was removed. I guess Ill live with it.

You're still Lord High Lord of the Fairies, you have nothing to complain about :P
-
I know you have tons of other stuff you are working on but I want to write these suggestions down before I forget:
- Be able to click to the next page at the bottom of the page as well as the top
- Be able to select the number of items displayed at a time
-
It's looking really fresh! Nice :) I noticed the alternate title headings are missing :o
Will the "Shelf" feature be back? I really really enjoyed viewing my collection with that realistic style! :D
Great work Matt!! ;D
-
Looking good.
-
The numbered index at the top of the wishlist only links to your collection. So if you wish list spans more then one page you can't scroll to the next page.
-
My "all platforms" list appears to leave titles out where the page-breaks occur. For instance, I can see Double Dragon on my NES list, but it disappears when I look at my All Platforms list.

This has been corrected.

This is almost fixed. You can now navigate properly up until you get near the end of your pages.

You're probably aware of this already, but some categories aren't displaying all entries. For example, I have 54 SNES games in my collection, but when viewing only the SNES games in my collection, it will only display the first 2 pages (50 items) and the last 4 games are missing, as there is no way to get to the 3rd page.
I'm sure you're aware of it and going to be fixing it soon, just wanted to make sure. Everything is looking really good though! Nice work!

Wasn't aware of it - but just fixed it! Thanks for pointing it out.

When I add checks to the checkboxes on individual titles for things such as Cart/Disk, Manual, etc. and click Submit, it doesn't seem to save the information.

looks great so far... congrats on the hard work...
so I have a bookmark to this page...

me too.
Also, I noticed that the navigation on my wishlist has been changed. Now there are letters instead of numbers, and I like it! Much easier to find that one specific game. But when clicked on a letter, it takes me to my collection with the following errors:

I know this is still in beta and you may or may not already know this, just thought I'd mention it.

Looks good. Fancy. I gotta get a little time so I can explorr a little more

Yep, it's working great now. I know you must be absolutely swamped with bugs to work out. Good luck!

Looks like it only happens to those without an avatar.

Not sure if this is just a fluke, as it's the first thing I've tried to add since the update and it's a super nintendo accessory, but I'm getting some PHP errors as well.
Here's an imgur link: http://imgur.com/a/zsowp
Loving the new look by the way!

I think you must have hit the item page as I was pushing out a new update. Please try again and let me know if there is still an issue.
and thanks!

Great job & dedication to the site, Matt!
I've loved the site since I got here...and...you just keep on giving me more to love :)
Thanks, man!
-
So far I'm liking the new layout. I know it's not 100% done and that there will be some growing pains. I can't see my wish list...
But all in due time. :)

Works perfectly now. Thanks again!

Ok so I just added my first item since the move over, and it doesn't look like some of my choices are persisting. I've added the item with the date purchased, price, comments and the "other details" all filled out, but it's not keeping my date purchased and other details fields. I go back in and those fields are blank, while price and comment are still filled in..
This particular item is again the super game boy. It's CIB so all the other details should be clicked and the date should be filled out for June 25, 2013.

You're right. Working on fixing this now!
EDIT: and fixed. It wasn't an issue with saving the data, just editing it.

I'm kinda mixed on the new look, Just gotta get used to it.
A few things I noticed.
- The category links on Sell List do not work. They take you to your collection instead of sell list.
- the game pictures like front, back, cart/disc. You need to be able to click the thumbnails and make back & cart/disc larger.
- There's no page links on the bottom of the browse pages. They only appear on collection pages. Just a pain to scroll back up.
- Longer game titles seem not to be centered correct, they appear under the game and not next to it like that rest.
- Would like to see in settings how many games appear on your page. Old version has 50 a page, new has 25. I'd like to see we can choose in our setting how many we want to see at once. 25, 50, 75, 100.
- What happened to the link to see who had that item in their collection or if someone had one on their sell list?
- The compare button. If you bring this back please have options. The first version only showed what you both had in your entire collection. I'd like to compare what we are missing and even compare game categories, like seeing what SNES games my friend has I don't.
- Another suggestion is an Order button on entire collections and categories. I know a lot of local game collectors in my area and would be nice to see their list and see what they just picked up.
Well those are what I noticed so far, Hope to see much of these issues fixed and maybe see some/all of my suggestions in place.

See my notes above. I think everything you are looking for is planned and should be back within a week or two!
-
Will we be able to get a count of total games vs total hardware and accessories?
-
Clicking on certain spots (NES games for example) where the name is too long (Nintendo entertainment system) doesnt show the number of items I have cause it cuts off. Can we shorten some of the actual names?

I had found this problem on my phone but I didn't know it was a problem on the site too
-
Excellent, pagination is up and running!
-
An other problem I'm finding is nothing in browse shows whats in my collection. also nothing has a note of any kind it's in my collection. So if I search a game to see if its in my collection there's nothing telling me I have it. :-[

Just logged back in and, wow, what a treat! It's always fun rolling out new stuff and then trying to figure out why it won't play nice with the other components. Shoot, I've had several instances at the TV station where we drop in a new component and suddenly it's "Why are the colors inverted on the main channel? And what happened to closed captioning?!"
You're doing fine work and it makes me proud to be a member of this site.
On a side note, got this error when I clicked on my Wishlist, expanded the Sega Master System drop down and selected any other page besides Page 1 from the bottom of the page navigators:
A Database Error Occurred
Error Number: 1064
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 4
SELECT c.*, g.image FROM wishlist c LEFT JOIN games g on g.id = c.game_id WHERE c.id =
Filename: /nfs/c09/h04/mnt/138266/domains/vgcollect.com/html/models/item_model.php
Line Number: 80
All of the stuff on my SMS Wishlist fits on one page, which would explain why it can't find anything for the additional pages. It does this on my Vectrex Wishlist, too.

Fixed this one. Working on a lot of other fixes this afternoon as well. Stay tuned!

I actually managed to relax and spent almost the entire day yesterday out here:

That was after I put about 3 hours into the site. I also showered and drank...a lot haha.

Beautiful setting...where was that?
I'm also glad that you're setting time aside for yourself to enjoy things - it's important!

Thanks! That was Lake Montcalm in mid-Michigan. It was a fun day of swimming, drinking, eating and being out on the water. It was tough coming back into work today.

Scott why did you unchain Matt from his desk again! He can have fun when he is done working!
-
First of all thanks for the fixes on many of the things I've noticed in the new layout.
Another fix is the display of how many people have a game in their collection. Kinda cool to see just how many people own a game. Kinda lets us know whats popular or rare.

I agree with theflea I also like having the ability to download my list to an excel or similar program to print it out and take with me when I go out game hunting
-
Thanks for the great work guys! I can't wait to get back on the bandwagon and start adding more to the database.... This update has motivated me a bit.... Conveniently I can't add anything right now though, lol! I'll just make a list until then :P

Grats on your most recent item (Wiz: TotFL:) IMHO one of the best games to hit the PS2; ever played it?!

This'll be coming soon.

found another problem, on games like 3DO and PS1 or anything with a long box I cant scroll down on image to reach edit/delete etc. My loptop screen pushes all buttons on the bottom off screen and I can't scroll down to it.

Yup, but barely so I'm looking forward to it now.... I also have a dozen more to add soon and I want to start adding my PS1 library within the week....

drats! I was afriad that this would happen to people with smaller screen resolution. I'll have to come up with a solution. Later tonight you'll be able to edit these things from the actual item page as well as the main collection page. That should hold you over until I get a better fix in place.
-
My compliments to Matt and the Admins for their hard work. The new features and look of everything so far is super nice. :)
-
Hey Matt,
I know you're hard at work. Just wondering if there is a timeline for when you will have adding images back up and running.

I'm going to be working on that tonight. Hopefully it'll be up and running by 10pm EST.

aanndd....
Image uploads and editing is back! It's not polished but it works for now.
-
It looks like the release date isn't saving after putting in a new item or editing

I've been having similar problems. I tried to delete some NES games from my collection that I put on ebay, but when I scrolled down to delete, it wouldn't let me either.

It -is- working for me. It's just that when you edit an item, the release date isn't shown correctly in the edit page.
Edit: Welp, nope, seems like dates are broken for me too.
