Title: Let's Name the top 50 Arcade Cabinets?

Hey all!
I was putting together a Mame cabinet, and realized I don't think we ever did a "Top" Arcade games. I'm hoping to see some forgotten gems in the list! If we already did this, slap me, and direct me. In that order.
I loved that you didn't really get to CHOOSE your character per se, it was just whatever was open.

Should we try to knock these multigame cabs down to one game and not combos. Some make more sense than others. It might be nice to get the list to be a solid list of games, and not a way to get as many games as possible. Seems more in spirit of the list, maybe. What do others think?

Fair enough. I changed my two. Those were just my 2 favorite cabinets.

Yes, Metal Slug was on Neo Geo MVS. But earlier in the thread we were told only 1 game listed, no multi-cabs listed.

18. UMK3 - I could probably pick any MK game that made it to the arcade. But Ultimate MK3 was the top by far. I spent many hours in nasty ass pool halls playing this game and betting money on the outcomes. Win some, lose some. But it was definitely awesome.

I don't know a whole lot. But know it is pretty tough to acquire from my Sega arcade research for some videos. You can however, find the DVD game. Not the same by any mean. But not too bad of a port for $10. Here is the VintageVideoGameGeek Review if interested in knowing about that port.

I love shoot-em ups, and this particular arcade did a lot to foster that love. It was at a local pizza place in my town growing up that I spent a lot of time at.

I really liked Lucky and Wild. I don't know if it was my timing or what, but it seemed like it was in arcades for a really short time, then gone.

No doubt about that "arcade experience". There was also a distinct smell that arcades had.
But you can't tell it's not more convenient to just play people over Steam or Xbox Live. That's why arcades are barely hanging on by a thread nowadays.

I don't really think online gaming killed arcades. I think a lot of it was when the home consoles started being as good, if not better, than arcades. I'm out of touch since I live in the sticks and I don't know many teenagers. Do kids still get dropped off to hang out somewhere? My parents occasionally dropped us off at the bowling alley with $20 and told us to have fun. Does that still happen? That may have been what killed arcades. Maybe it was just a different time.
Maybe I'm just rambling. I'm not going to proofread this, so it may not make any sense.

It doesnt happen anymore. And I do think both of you are right. Consoles power and online gaming has killed the arcade scene the same way Ebay has caused lots of closed businesses : convenience.
But I do miss that dark arcade and people crowding around the machine with quarters up. We used to get dropped off at the skating rink ourselves. They had 5-6 games and a concession stand as well as the skating itself (I was on the Oklahoma speed skating team for 2 years when it first started).

Possibly the only shmup I can think of that needed 6 buttons. And the US version is the only one that did too. The other versions had a standard power up system.

An arcade action-RPG, no joke. It has ports on TurboGrafx-16 and Genesis. I have the Genesis version (although from what I hear, the Genesis version is the less wanted of the two). It's actually pretty fun. A mixture of Golden Axe and the side-scrolling parts of Zelda II by Taito. But it's short, unfortunately. I wish they'd make a sequel, one that was lengthier and bit more in-depth. Still, though, a fun game and unique for arcades.

I'm not him, so I can't say for sure. But I'd imagine it was the same reason I didn't name all 6 Metal Slug arcade games, despite them deserving it: Trying to keep it to one game per series.

DDR is the debil. I worked at an arcade when that machine was released. Was horrible to deal with those people. I used to unplug the machine and say it was broken all the time and watch them cry.

And despite not personally liking DDR, it did keep arcades alive for a while longer than they really should have been. So you've got to give the game series credit.

I liked DDR! Then again this is only the early Japanese ones, I didn't touch the local releases or the PS2 stuff. There was a bowling alley near where I used to work a few years ago that had a DDR cab - we all used to go down there for a few games of Virtua Cop 3 and killing ourselves on Max 300 XD
