Title: First cell phone
Post by: 90snostalga on June 03, 2014, 01:45:54 pm
I'm thinking of finally getting my first smart phone and the one that I am wanting or thinking about is the Straight Talk Huawei W1 Windows 8 phone.  I hate Android phones and I prefer Windows.  Does anyone have this phone and if so, how would you rate and what are the pros and cons?

Most people develop for Android or iOS so you won't find nearly as much apps on Windows phone.

I had the first Droid which is an Android phone.  I liked it.  The only problem (at the time) with Android is there there is no quality control with the apps.
With Apple, you submit and app  >  Apple tests the app > they approve the app  > it goes to the store.
Not with Google.  Anyone can put any turd out there.  There are a bunch of broken apps on Android.

Other than that, I really liked my Android phone.  From what I know now, it's a lot better.  The trash gets weeded out.  Now, it pretty much has the same stuff as an iPhone.

I still like my iPhone though.

Yeah, that part has evolved a lot on Android phones and it's a lot better. I have a Nexus 5, which is the phone made by Google, and I absolutely love it. Best phone I've ever had. But 90s prefers a Windows phone so that's some pretty useless talk haha. Can't help you with Windows, sorry 90s!

I haven't heard anyone recommend Windows phones.  I've been told the better ones to get are like the Nexus or the Samsung Galaxy along with the HTC one I think.  I've been considering it, but T-Mobile doesn't do deals on phones anymore due to removing plans and I really don't want to pay 600 bucks for a new phone right now, though I might consider the payment plan, haven't settled on that yet.  Tired of my crappy smartphone, the only one I've had for about 3 years now and it was crappy when I got it, but now it's really bad lol

My first was a galaxy 3... god android sucked, I haven't used one since. I'm on my second windows phone, and I personally like it, however I don't use my phone all the time for everything. It doesn't really get many games or apps but it's pretty neat to sync it with a 360 and computer, makes everything a lot easier to manage

Cool  Someone with a Windows phone lol  :)  I'm really not fully committed because I dont want to have to add a 50 dollar bill every month.  I'd rather buy a 50 dollar game every month  ;)  But i may end up doing it and getting the new Windows 8 phone.

What does it do as far as sync with the 360 and computer?

You can share music some programs and some apps, and it comes with an Xbox 360 program to share achievements and more options to customize your avatar you can also download Microsoft games and earn more achievements... if that's your thing.
It's neat though to change say... a word document on your phone and then when you get home everything is updated and changed on your pc

I had an iphone 4 for the past few years and in january switched to the nokia lumia 928 windows phone. It may not have as many apps, or games, but I love much more than the iphone. I realized the other day how simple it was to take a pic and hook it to my computer and just drag the pics over, (this may work just as easy for any phone, not sure). I can also message my xbox friends from it, don't have any xboxs anymore.

Thanks for this.   I am excited to get a Windows phone now  :)  My only upset is Straight Talk only have one available and that I was going to get it this weekend; however, my car's starter decided to go out and now I've got to spend a good chunk to get that taken care of so it will be a minute.  I really enjoy the layout of the Windows 8 home screen.
