Before I PM

I just wanted to know if I understood how this Secret Santa is working
>We PM
>We make our list of Game/Etc that would cost someone roughfully around $30 w/t shipping. (is there limit on how many things we put on the list? More option means easier for the other person to find a good deal on it?)
>We are given another person wish list and we have 2 weeks to purchase this "item" regardless if its new or not.
>We ship it to their address or do we send it to one person and the one person ships it out to everyone else?

That's pretty much it.  You give a gift and get a gift.  It's fun.

Sign me up.  I like giving stuff.

Before I PM

I just wanted to know if I understood how this Secret Santa is working
>We PM Yes
>We make our list of Game/Etc that would cost someone roughly around $30 w/t shipping. (is there limit on how many things we put on the list? More option means easier for the other person to find a good deal on it?) There is no limit on how many items you can ask for.
>We are given another person wish list and we have 2 weeks to purchase this "item" regardless if its new or not. Yep. Once the sign up time has expired, I will pick people (not necessarily paired up ... you most likely will not be shipping to the same person that ships to you) and I will email the selected person's wish list to you.
>We ship it to their address or do we send it to one person and the one person ships it out to everyone else? You will get the other person's name (or avatar name, whichever they prefer) and their address. I dont want to be paying for all the shipping for everyone!

I'm in again.

It doesn't have to be strictly wishlist items though, davifus...if it did, no one would be surprised by their gifts  ;)

The majority of us know each other's tastes well enough to be able to pretty safely surprise them w/ something that they'll like  ;D

I'm about to empty my wishlist AND, I won't be buying my gift off of someone else's either  8)

Down w/ predictability!

Up w/ surprise!

PM coming soon, Brad

I'm in again. Also, to make it easier on everyone, when you make up your wish list, try to include a couple of things currently available at retail. Some folks are pretty busy and don't have time to hunt all over.

So, we need to spend at least 30 dollars on the person? Or can it be less/more depending on the gift?

give or take

~$30's a benchmark to prevent you from sending me a $30 gift...and receiving a $5 gift fom me in return  :o

spender can spend as much as they like *but* everyone should be receiving (minimal) gifts of equal amounts  ;)

It might be.

The last time we did this we tried to keep it to North America only due to high shipping costs. Some of us can't afford to ship stuff out of the US - even to Canada. Stupid USPS. -_-

And in I guess.

True, but - we might have enough Canadian & European users to pair up w/ each other now; no?

I'm in :)

I had a lot of fun hunting down games I normally wouldn't be looking for myself.

I recall that we allowed for pre-owned games, as long as they were in good and complete condition (unless the wishlist indicates cart-only is ok for completion purposes).

But I agree that including some retail-available items would be great because we don't all have access to good thrift stores or are interested in doing the eBay thing.

Also, it doesn't have to be strictly games - game-related books, DVDs, and collectibles have been on some wishlists before.  I think it's good to have a long wishlist to give the other person lots of options :)

We should probably make sure people include their names inside the gift package (sometimes people gave away who they were in their return address) so that the recipient knows who their Secret Santa was.  Also, some folks wait 'till xmas to open them while others don't.  If you open it early, you can reveal who your SS was after xmas so that people don't figure out who they got by deductive reasoning.

Wish list can be basically anything you would be happy to receive as a gift (within reason).

As far as Pal vs NTSC, If I get multiple people in a certain non US region, I will try to pair them up as close as possible to minimize shipping costs/issues.

YAY!!

(within reason).

You tease!!

I'm still debating about whether or not I'm in for this. Just based on previous SS experiences, I ended up with some really -REALLY- crappy gifts. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit spoiled, but they were just awful. I'll have a final answer later.

I'm in, but no idea what to say for a wishlist.  Anything cool PS1/PS2/PS3 that's not in my collection? Any JRPG strategy guides not in my collection? Is that narrow enough?

How did...how did some of those gifts not exceed the 30 dollar limit? If there's any illegal activity involved in this SS-ing then I want no part of it!

I know I cheated a little.  I gave someone a single $40+ game, but I spent less than the limit.  No one complained that I know of.  :D

Yeah, I guess that the value of what I gave was > $30 -but- keep in mind that w/ a site like this w/ collections & collectors like us...many of us have doubles, triples, etc of games we got when they were a lot cheaper than what it would have cost to buy them last X-Mas.

I know that the Rhapsody I gave to Brad was something he'd been looking for & I had 2 or 3 of them & I threw in some swag to spice it up a bit.

tl;dr

I didn't have to leave my house (except to mail it), buy/order anything, spend any more money, etc to put my gift together and...I suspect that this was the same case for others here, as well!

Nothing illegal; honest!  8)

I definitely went over the $30 limit, but that was my choice.  I wasn't expecting anyone to do it for me - I just wanted to give more because I felt like it :)  My recipient was definitely happy, and that was enough for me :D

I need to clarify something. Ive gotten a few messages of people just linking me their wishlist. Some of them are 100s of items with a lot of them over the limit. Its easier with a written wishlist.

Just a little heads up keep in mind what you have on the wishlist you sent and watch what your recipient is getting while this goes on. I was going to give Bayonetta as part of my gift then the guy happened to buy it so I had to change my plan.

I have a request - can we have the sender write either "wrapped" or "not wrapped" on the box so the receiver knows? That way, if we do want to wait until Christmas to open it we won't open the shipping box expecting a wrapped gift & be surprised. ;)

Nice!!! :)

Just and advice if you have to send your gift far away and don't want to spend too much money on shipping. I used it last year and went great!
I purchased my gift in an online store from the destination country and made them ship it to the giftee. That way, I could use a lot of the shipping money in making the gift better! :)

Hope this helps!

Tomorrow, I will take the names and pair them up. Please, in the mean time, get your wish lists and your addresses sent to me so that I can get them to your Santa faster.

Do you think we can extend this to 3 weeks so we can hit those sexy day after Thanksgiving sales?  I might be able to grab some extra stuff for the ole giftee.

I just found something awesome for my giftee.  I sure hope they like it.  It is worth way more than $30, but I promise I didn't spend what it normally costs.  I hope you like it giftee.

In fact, I still have a little left in the budget.  I may try to find something to throw on top of this prize.

Ouch, that sucks. Good luck on your search!

It's kind of a blessing and a curse to have a giftee who has a very different taste in games. On the one hand, it's strangely exciting to be researching and comparing prices for games I wouldn't usually pick up. On the other hand, I'm a bit worried I might get something they won't like due to my ignorance. :-[

You didn't get a wishlist for them? I tried to mix mine up like Soera suggested. Some new stuff, some old stuff, a couple of items were "if they get me this one game that's all they could get." But I also left them some suggestions that were lesser priced if they wanted to go for quantity.

I'd be happy with anything from my wishlist or something in the same arena that I don't already have.

Without going into too much detail, they have a designated wishlist, but they're open to surprises (like me and probably a lot of other people in this Secret Santa.) Either way I'm getting something I know they want for sure, and I'm definitely more comfortable shopping for another gamer than I am the other people I'm paired up with for other Secret Santas this year. One of my coworkers just said she likes cows. Not sure how I'm supposed to work with that.

And I'm definitely going over $30 for this. (In worth of the items, not necessarily spending price.) 'Tis the season! ;D

Damn, disgaeniac. I would not be able to handle the temptation.

Tootsie Rolls are my favorite of the candy that is left at the bottom of the bowl after everything has been picked through.  Not the best, but when you are desperate for some candy and all that is left is the weird stuff they are pretty good.

I stand by what I said. 8) Tootsie Rolls are like the oatmeal raisin cookies of the candy world. They don't taste that bad on their own, but the disappointment is crushing when you are expecting a rich, chocolately treat and bite in to find cocoa-flavored denture glue.

(Never expected that Tootsie Rolls would spark a conversation on this forum. I love you guys.)

I feel your pain. I'm also on a monthly salary, and I'm getting it a few days late due to a processing error. Tootsie Rolls are kind of nasty. They get stuck in your teeth and don't taste very good. That said, they have the best jingle of all the candies.

"The world looks mighty good to me...
'cause Tootsie Rolls are all I see!
Whatever it is I think I see...
becomes a Tootsie Roll to me!

Tootsie Roll's center is a chocolaty chew!
Tootsie Roll I think I'm in love with you!

Whatever it is I think I see...
becomes a Tootsie Roll to me!"

Yes, that was from memory.

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many people that didn't like Tootsie Rolls. They're definitely not bottom of the barrel for anyone I know - matter of fact, they're probably one of the first things to get picked out of a mixed bowl of candy.

And if I see any vanilla Tootsie Rolls, I will hurt someone to get them. HURT!  :P

I actually kind of like the vanilla ones.  Really good if mixed with the chocolate flavor.  It's the fruit ones that are disgusting.

Vanilla's okay. I really like the lemon and lime ones. Kinda tempted to throw some Tootsie Rolls in the gift now. Y'know, for laughs.

I would think of it as a nice bonus.

You don't know what you're missing!

Several years back at my old job we were getting ready for a meeting and several of us had gotten there early. There was some mixed candy in a bowl in the middle of the conference room table & there were some vanilla tootsie rolls mixed in. So I start picking them out. The lady across from me looks at me funny and goes "what are you doing?" I tell her I'm picking out the vanilla ones and she laughs and goes "That's what *I'm* doing!".

They're like crack. ;)

Once again, ick. Aside from a super fun jingle and being cheap slingshot ammo, Tootsie Rolls have no place in the candy dish.

I thought it was a really good movie, but for me it's one of those I can't rewatch. I did once I believe, to show it to someone else, but it was hard to do - that isn't my typical kind of movie.

Now Fight Club I can watch over & over again, that's easily one of my top 5. :D

They'd of looked at you even weirder if the same thing that was happening to him, when he was yelling it at the end of the movie - was happening to you :o

Man!  I still cringe, look away/close my eyes, and cover-up & 'protect' the jewels during that scene :'(

It's ok to love Se7en, Fight Club, Inglorious Bastards, and Snatch; but as a man, it's never ok to be a Brad Pitt fan.

Damn it, I just realized I hate Brad Pitt. He's an extremely talented dude that is ridiculously good looking and he makes awesome moves.  On top of that, he's married to one of the prettiest ladies to ever live. He's probably cool to be around too. I'm pretty sure him and Tom Brady have started a club.

Nothing against ya sir Turf but Deso is right ... dudes idolize athletes, nothing wrong with idolizing an actor/musician. I think Christopher Lambert is my hero as well as Sully Erna.

There should be a new, stronger word for killing. Like badwrong. Or... badong. Yes. Killing is badong. From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing: Gnodab.

(Kung Pow is one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. I adore it.)

Back on topic, I just need to grab one more thing before I send out my gift. Someone needs to post some photos before we start talking about our official bird or some nonsense.

Alright, so I had a really bad day yesterday - work is getting pretty stressful since we've had one person in our dept. retire this year already and another retiring at the end of Dec, not to mention we were already short a position that we haven't rehired for and...yeah, it's piling up and I have a tendency to over-worry anyway.

Sooo...my wife told me to open my secret santa gift(s) to make me feel a little better.

...

OK, I feel like I need to apologize to everyone else who DIDN'T have my secret santa, because *clearly* I got the most awesome person here as mine.  Don't believe me?  Just take a look at this:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7520/15688579498_2c1ba52d02_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/pUm56Y)IMG_4382 (https://flic.kr/p/pUm56Y)

 :o :o :o

Not only did he/she get me the One Piece import game off of my wishlist, they got me the COLLECTOR'S EDITION!  ;D  And while that Crimson Tears may not look like much, it is a game I have been look to re-add to my collection for quite a while now.  That was pulled from my site wishlist, but honstly I had forgotten it was even on it & thought my santa was just psychic at first!  :o  Even when I re-checked and saw it WAS on it, there's so much on that list (and a lot I need to take off honestly, since I'm not really looking for them that much) the simple fact that they pulled that game that I really HAVE been after out of that giant list is still amazing.

So to whoever you are, Santa, you are AWESOME!!!  ;D ;D

(and yes, I said I wouldn't cave and I did...oh well. :P)

Since my giftee hasn't received, opened, and/or posted pics of my gift yet...I'll hold-off on naming the bestest SS...for now ;)

Very Nice, Argyle!

I love it when you people cave in and open your gift.  "I'm going to wait until Christmas." he says.  "I like surprises" He says.

Curiosity always wins out.  Open The Package!   ;D

Does everyone have their jealousy in check? Well, it won't last. My SS has blessed me with Cardcaptor Sakura: The Blu-Ray Collection. I have 70 episodes of shojo fabulousness to watch on rainy, snowy and sunny days. I am on cloud nine.

SS, you are a great person in so many ways. Thank you so much. Words on an Internet forum just aren't enough to express my gratitude.

AFAIK, so far, the 1st print run is the only one that's been released - meaning that, they all should still be coming with the art book.

Maybe your bf can check his GS computer to verify that + maybe even find one locally for you, so you wouldn't even have to bother ordering online.

Greg -

Middle item - Wind Waker HD Gamestop Exclusive Limited Edition - I actually got this when it came out but ended up trading the game off (kept everything else from the set). So when I picked the game back up this week, I re-added it as the LE.

Box - Wolfenstein: The New Order - Panzerhund Edition - This was a "add-on" Collector's Edition sold directly from Bethesda. The game was sold seperately. It originally sold for $100, but on BF they had it for half price with free shipping, so I bit. Since I also picked up the game last week for $5.50 after using some Reward Zone certs I had, I'm happy with basically getting the full set for $55. :D

If you want a closer look at the Wolfenstein set:  http://vgcollect.com/item/72804

Also, I have to agree with dark. Jolly Ranchers are much better than Tootsie Rolls. Of course, that's not saying much. XD

It's a good thing I'm an -AMAZE-BALLS- dancer.

Also, Goodfeathers was hilarious. Goodfellas was epic. Two great things discussed in such a short span of time. Sensory overload!

and within we have 4 neatly wrapped packages!

and... of course there was no way they were making it to Christmas... There was no way they made it until after dinner...

I now have Dawn of Mana and it's soundtrack together! These brings me up to 116 PS2 games! Thanks a lot Santa!

Want to unwrap with me?  I opened it as soon as I got in the house!

Dear Secret Santa, you're a jerk.   ;)

Hahaha! I couldn't have imagined you would open it live! Priceless!
Yes, it was I, your April-foolish Secret Santa. I thought it was a little strange for you to include a $600 game on your list so I though I'd have a little fun. ;D No hard feelings?

Hopefully Pool of Radiance is still appreciated!
Merry Christmas, my friend!

No hard feelings at all.  I put it on the list as a joke anyway.  I was just being silly.  I got a kick out of it.  Thank you so much for Pool of Radiance.  It filled a very nice, neat spot in my collection.

Ya Matt was with me on a game hunt a few months back and mentioned I-Ninja. I was gonna pick it up, but passed on it since we were heading to a bunch of stores. None of the other stores had it on hand and I hadn't seen it since. Which is funny, cause when I wasn't looking for it, I could have swore I saw it everywhere.

And second - I got my own package today. :) Inside was a box of goodies. Wonderful 101 for the Wii U brand new, a new on card Master system rapid fire unit :D , DQ VIII demo disk in sleeve, and a cool holographic post card of Legend of Mana. Super awesome to say the least!

I love VGCollect Secret Santa. :)

Everyone has been getting great gifts. This has been a really fun thread to keep up with and I'm so glad I participated.

Aside: Dawn of Mana is my least favorite game in the series. That game makes me so -ANGRY- that it almost makes me want to remove the entire franchise from my collection. Seriously, I want to strangle the creators of that game IN THE FACE.

I've never played it. I've heard the it isn't like other Mana games though and that it suffers from camera issues?

*Camera issues out the yin yang
*Controlling the ivy whip is messy
*Resetting of Keldy's stats at the end of each chapter
*Lacks the "magic" that made SoM and SoM2 so memorable

Beautiful game, though. The visuals rival some I have seen in modern day RPGs.

My giftee's present has been delivered, so I opened mine. I'm posting a photo instead of a full unboxing video because none of you deserve to be subjected to my horrific southern drawl.

I got Journey: Collector's Edition for the PS3 (perfect timing too, because I just replaced my PS3 two days ago and have really been wanting to play it,) Okamiden for the DS, a set of PAX magnets, another adorable giraffe note, and a box of green tea Kit Kats. I actually never knew they existed until now, but they are GODLIKE. I don't like green tea or regular Kit Kats (sue me,) but they somehow combine to make something beautiful. I definitely need to pick up more.

Thanks so much, Santa!

P.S. My puppies really liked the box.

Well, I tried to take a video of me unboxing my gift, but my camera sucks, the lighting sucks, and since I'm apparently too dark skinned to show up on the camera properly, I couldn't make a video. Sorry! (Goddamn, and people around here call me whitey because I'm whiter than most folks...)

So... here's the stuff I got from someone in Texas.

- A baggie of Tootsie Rolls (whoever you are at least you had the decency to send me chocolate ones.)
- Critical Path (game on CD) - I vaguely remember hearing about this game a while back
- Virtuoso (PC CD, sealed) - ... which is a pretty weird coincidence because Clint of LazyGameReviews spoke about the cover art a couple of weeks ago in his "Worst Box Art" video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRc88azfsKY#t=162)! Dat mullet!
- And a $20 Steam Wallet card. Yippee!

<3

Thank you~

^ Trade you. I'm one of those people who cannot tan no matter how hard I try. I'm so pale that I look like I'm glowing any time someone takes my photo. There is a photograph of me where I am actively reflecting white light on a black fence directly behind me. It was taken on an overcast day. :(

Never played Critical Path, but I remember wasting several hours with Virtuoso. That game took "so bad, it's good" and turned it into an artform. The box art mullet is a major improvement over the in-game mullet.

Dude, I'm pretty friggin' white. Not Conan O'Brien levels, thankfully, just average Gringo white. My dad was very light skinned and I got that from him, but my mom is dark skinned so I tan easily and rarely burn, unlike my poor sisters who are super white but sunburn after a half hour outside. :p My brother's the same as me. But since I work walking around in the sun buying things, my face, neck, hands and arms are tanned. The rest of me, not so much. ;p

My Secret Santa helped my poor Sega Genesis library with the additions of:
As well as sending the soundtrack for the game Journey, a movie called City Dragon that looks like it will be fantastic, some nice cases for my loose GBA collection and candy that is vastly superior to Tootsie Rolls.  Seriously I just ate some peanut butter candy, (I forget the name) and it was fantastic, as well as the coconut candy.

And I'm terribly sorry for those red and yellow candies. Those are um, hot candies. You have been warned. Enjoy your lead poisoning! <3

I wanted to send a better variety of stuff but none of the local candy markets had a lot of uh, loose candy in stock. All they had were wholesale packages. It's why I sent you that cocada (coconut candy) package! It was either that or one single half-pound stick of the stuff. :p

And so everyone knows, if you ever get a Secret Santa package from me, you get candy and a bad movie. It's tradition!

Ok, so I don't have the editing software at home to cut this down (I do all my video editing at work usually)  ::) but I uploaded the whole stream to Youtube (all 8 hours of it) and have bookmarked the VGC part (it's about 10 min).

Feel free to watch the rest of the stream if you're suuuuuper bored.  Unfortunately, the music was a little overpowering, but I think you should still be able to hear me.  The fellow next to me is my boyfriend.

Hopefully my SS doesn't mind me accidentally showing their first name at the very end...  :-X but thanks!  I'll go take pics of everything and post them in the Christmas Loot section.

*Note: I'm sick and I've been fighting with Youtube for the last 10 min to try to get it to play at the part where I *actually* unbox the SS stuff.  It's at 29:23 if anything.  Or after the artbook unwrapping.
