Title: Christmas Loot 2014
Post by: turf on December 24, 2014, 01:16:04 pm
Folks mentioned they like seeing what everyone gets for Christmas. I didn't want to blow up the pickups thread. So, I made a whole new one just for Christmas.

Merry Christmas. Now, let's revel in each other's good fortune.

A friend of mine ordered a LootCrate for me. :o So I got it, it has a bunch of things in it which you can see here because I'm a lazy bastard and don't want to take photos. (http://9to5.cc/happy-anniversary-to-me-december-loot-crate-perspicacious-geek/) Really digging that Batjoker figure thing. He got three Guardians of the Galaxy ones for his Secret Santa and I threatened I would keep them for myself, but. :p

Oh and how did I pay him back?

I GAVE HIM BAD RATS.

:D

So I have to report:

-A Disney Pinnochio puzzle. (But it's actually pretty cool looking because it's hand-painted by Thomas Kinkade.)
-Spider-Man & Venom salt & pepper shakers (seriously)
-Sliders: Season 5 (the only season I still needed! Freaking love this show!)
-House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)
-Ultimate NES Remix (3DS)
-$15 Target Gift Card
-$140 Cash

I already used the gift-card and some of that cash to get a much needed new jacket.

I'm still going to the in-laws house tomorrow. So I'll have something else from them, most likely.

And I have our first baby girl coming the day after Christmas, Chloe. My wife is getting induced tomorrow night.

the usual assortment of cash, gift cards, scratch-off's, my favorite coffee, etc.

A 2nd (and, 3RD), actually copy of

Akiba's Trip

(I now have - all never used - a minty & cib PS3 copy + a minty & cib PS4 copy + a *sealed* PS4 copy); I'd be open to any & all reasonable offers to buy and/or trade for all but one of my PS4 copies of it...if any of you've been looking for or interested in it

and

best & most surprising of all (so far!)...

...one of my cards from Carrie - had an awesomely generous & thoughtful message in it...informing me that, to date - every single outstanding game that I'd pre-ordered (~$500 worth!) has been fully paid for/paid off!

And,

the day is still young & filled w/ many & more visiting personages...each one of em...bearing limitless potential & possibilities for LooT yet to come.

tl;dr =

Life's GooD!

We haven't opened gifts yet at my parents', but my mother gave me this:

http://vgcollect.com/item/73666

Which is pretty much the rarest 3DS "game" (it's an interactive tour of the Louvre museum), since it's only available to buy in France! She got me the French version, but there are 6 or 7 possible languages. And also, it's the ONLY 3DS application that isn't region locked!  ;D

Eh, Kingdoms of Amalur was just alright lol  It really doesn't do anything great or overly new.  Not bad for an RPG time waster though.

I used some Christmas cash to get Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.  Actually ended up being abit tougher to find as the Gamestops I went to were out of them, along with Toys R Us, but managed to find it at Best Buy with only a couple copies left.

I recently tried that game out for the first time. I've heard a lot of high praise about it, but I didn't like it. I found the art style and writing similar to that of a late 90s early 2000s Nickelodeon cartoon, and definitely not in a good way. Gameplay and environments were less than whimsical and that just won't do in a platformer for me. Maybe it was one of those had to be there type games? It's praised like a cult classic, but I don't see it.  :-\

Aw, that's too bad.  I don't like platformers, but this game got me to play it anyway.  I think the platforming bits reminded me a little of Tony Hawk games or something, and I thought some of the level designs were pretty ingenious at the time (milkman ftw).

-Sliders: Season 5 (the only season I still needed! Freaking love this show!)

And I have our first baby girl coming the day after Christmas, Chloe. My wife is getting induced tomorrow night.

I got quite a bit more cash from friends and relatives for Christmas since this post (I'm assuming because we just had our first baby). Plenty to put in the bank and spend some. So here's some stuff I got with some of it:

-Avengers Assemble vol. 5 - The Ultron Saga (Marvel Comics TPB)
-Crisis on Multiple Earths vol. 4 (DC Comics TPB)
-Crisis on Multiple Earths: Team-Ups (DC Comics TPB)
-Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (DS)
-Final Fight 2 (SNES)

If you've got a few minutes, I did a video showing off what I added to the horde over Christmas.

In case you're wondering; I think I'm a narcissistic asshole, who likes the sound of his own voice too.

Finally have a chance to sit down to write up this post :P

My awesome VGC SS got me:
- Pandora's Tower (Wii)
- Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (DS)
- a sweet lanyard
- two Legend of Zelda danglers that work *beautifully* on our 3 ft tall Christmas tree!  I think we might continue to collect ornaments like these for our tree as the years go on  ;D

The bf got me Akiba's Trip (PS4) and a Playstation TV, which I'm loving.  I went out the next day to pick up Freedom Wars and have been streaming a bit of that, and he's been enjoying streaming his Vita copy of FF X HD as well.

Another friend snuck in a last-minute gift of the Breath of Fire artbook - it looks great, and I can't wait to play that series.

To summarize the other stuff, I've gotten:

Steam:
- Tales from the Borderlands
- King's Bounty: Crossworlds
- Octodad: Dadliest Catch
- Never Alone
- The Walking Dead: Season 2
- LEGO Batman
- LEGO Batman 2
- Gauntlet
- Child of Light
- South Park: The Stick of Truth + DLC

Other:
- $100 Amazon giftcard

All in all, an amazing haul, and I can't believe how lucky I am to have such great folks in my life!  Thanks, VGC; I hope you all had a great holiday as well!

This was the year of board games for me, it seems. I got Coup, Love Letter, Suburbia, Kemet, Atlantis Rising, Jamaica, Tokaido, and Harry Potter Clue (I collect Clue games and I believe this one will put me at 20).

On the gaming front, my aunt gave me Hakuoki: Memories of Shinsengumi for the 3DS and the parents gave me Smash Bros. 3DS and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Ronalopolis got me the super large Harvest Moon plush set (Dog, Cow, Chicken w/ Chick, and a Panda for some reason) and the Link Figma and a King Mickey toy. He got me Fantasy Life after I had told him about 100 times that I wanted it badly (yay Level-5) but that I just did not have the time for it. I'm about 20 hours in.  ;D

Then, to top all that off, he got me Revelations: The Demon Slayer for the GBC and Revelations: Persona for the PS1. I need to get the original release of Devil Survivor for the DS (I have the 3DS Overclocked) and I need to get a NA version of Jack Bros. for the Virtual Boy (I have the JPN release) and I will have every single Shin Megami Tensei game and spin-off ever released in the NA market. (Until Break Record, Dancing All Night, and Persona 5 get released, that is.)
