Title: Listing Errors 2015
Post by: tpugmire on January 29, 2015, 11:09:55 am
Report any issues with any listings here.  See something that doesn't belong?  Incorrect images, or images with watermarks?  The staff will look into any reports and fix them. Please provide links if possible.

Sweet.

Shouldn't this be in/under "site feedback", though?

I thought about that, but I figured it might be better to keep all this stuff together.

Site feedback would be something about the site and its function. -Not database errors. That's how i look at it.

Found this in the PSP [JP] section: http://vgcollect.com/item/33110 (http://vgcollect.com/item/33110)
The box art is incorrectly shown as the Australian PS3 version, and from what I can tell from the Wikipedia article the PSP version never even came out in Japan. It's not in anyone's collection anyways, so I'm assuming somebody made it by mistake.

I wanted to change the name for the following release:

http://vgcollect.com/item/76859

From "Rampage" to "Rampage - The Hit Squad" in order to mark that this is the Budget re-release of the title, but my change order got rejected. When I check the Style guide I'm unable to see where I go wrong here. The titel of the game is "Rampage" and it's the "The Hit Squad" re-release of it. Comparable with for example the following product:

Lotus II R.E.C.S. - EA Classics
http://vgcollect.com/item/69626
Where "EA Classics" and "The Hit Squad" is essentially the same things, but for different publishers/consoles

Could you clarify? :)

I thought that "The Hit Squad" was a subtitle, thus the correct way to list in the database would have been Rampage: The Hit Squad.  I did not realize that "The Hit Squad" was a budget release.  I have resubmitted an edit.

Lol, you guys ever get rejected edit notices for part of a listing that you didn't change?  ???  I submitted new box art for A Witch's Tale last night, which was approved, but also got a rejection notice for description text that was already there & I didn't touch. :P Doesn't really matter, I've just had it happen a few times & was wondering what makes whoever checked it think I edited stuff I didn't?

Final Fantasy XIII released with the new PS3 logo. It would be strange if they used the old Spider-Man movie font logo for their Platinum release.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is why is there multiple versions of the box art?  If there is multiple releases of the box art than there needs to be two entries of the game in the database.  Is the current art in the database promotional or a custom box art?

The GameFAQs cover is the right one. There's a version with a PEGI rating and another one with a USK rating.

That cover is likely shopped, based on the older style of PS3 Platinum cover arts, like this one (http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/932369-ratchet-and-clank-future-tools-of-destruction/images/box-171074).

I didn't see what it was, but most descriptions I see are usually not the sort that the style guide asks for.  The description should be objective and focused on things like physical contents in a box, particular markings for the variant, etc.  If it has any flavor text about the plot or hype, I usually just hit the edit button, erase the whole field, submit the edit.

Sometimes that stuff is also stolen from other sites (i.e. MobyGames, etc.), which is definitely a no-no on the site.

Yeah the description field is almost always used incorrectly.  We definitely appreciate edits removing them from the database.  This particular description even spoiled the entire ending of the game in detail!

I just tried to submit edits to the N3DSXL - Black, but after I submitted the edits, it'd just refresh the edit page without giving me a confirmation of the submission.  I'll try it again on a different browser, but apologies if you get multiple edits from me!

Update: Still no go with another browser.  Let me know if it's not going through at all (maybe I'm doing something wrong?) or if it's going through and the submission notice isn't showing up.

Ok, so I figured out what the issue was - two of the images I was submitting were over 3 mbs each... one was 10mb  ::)

Resized down, and they submitted just fine :)

If you want to mention to Matt about perhaps implementing an error message popping up, that'd be awesome.  Otherwise, no biggie!

PGA Tour is missing from the list.

http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/pga-tour/119146

Missing items wouldn't really count as "listing errors."  It'd count as a good opportunity for someone to add an upcoming title to our database :)

All items were created by users of the site, so if you see an item is missing, feel free to add it yourself (after searching/browsing first, of course  ;) ).

Not sure this belongs here but I didn't want to start a new thread just for this. An edit was rejected and I just wanted to point out why I suggested changing a title. You have Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker and the edit I submitted removed the second set of colons, which is how Atlus has it on the sales sheet. It's possible the sale sheet could have an error though that seemed like the most reliable source.

I based my decision off of this section of the Style Guide:
Quote
Games with subtitles:  Subtitle should follow the main title after a colon.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Bionic Commando: ReArmed
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

We do not necessarily go by the title from official site, game review sites, etc.

I would never base a title from a game review site either and not necessarily an official site as those do tend to contain errors. I'm using the marketing materials that Atlus provides to retailers :P I'm not trying to argue the point, just thought I should state the source and I understand that colons go before a subtitle but I didn't think it applied in this case since nothing needs to be there.

In January a user created an entry for the white (Japanese) Smash Bros GameCube controller (http://vgcollect.com/item/75883). I recently bought the Japanese release of both the black and white controller and was planning on creating an entry for the black Japanese one. Then I saw the entry title of the existing white entry. "GameCube Controller - Super Smash Bros. Japanese White Edition" That's a mouth full. I was thinking it could be named "GameCube Controller - Super Smash Bros. Edition (White) [JP], but that would be silly also. So I ended up translating word for word what is on the boxes.

I feel those names are a lot more elegant than "GameCube Controller - Super Smash Bros. Japanese White Edition." I'll submit edits; feel free to decline them.  :P
Edit: Or.... should we stand together and remove regions from controllers once and for all?

Deletion request of an AU Listing of an EU/NA/JP only game:
http://vgcollect.com/item/78358
Looked around everywhere for confirmation it had its own AU release. Gamefaqs, mobygames, coverproject, wikipedia and even eBay turn up nothing.
The user who submitted it "f15azza" has submitted a couple other games to, often without correct punctuation and grammar on the title or even correct box art. Might want to politely send him a message about how to properly submit new items.

The game does exist, but the user uploaded the wrong picture and needs to fix the title.

Australian release of Automobili Lamborghini is the same as the EU release but it has the Australian rating sticker on it. I found a couple on Ebay.com.au like this one:

There is two Batman Origins in the Wii U (EU) section. This is the first, and then the second says '(PEGI Rating)' at the end of the title, but the first one also has a PEGI rating? so I am not sure how this is suppose to be, because the second does seem to have a slightly different cover, but there isn't a difference of the rating :)

http://vgcollect.com/item/68144

This is the second one.

http://vgcollect.com/item/69402

Dirt 2 for the Wii is in the Wii U section, there is already a Dirt 2 in the Wii section so moving it would cause a duplicate. :)

They have different part numbers, as they are two different releases. The titles merely need to be fixed.

From what I can tell, the first one (68144) is the German version. So likely its title should have [DE] in it.

Second one (69402) appears to be the UK release. The "(PEGI Rating)" in the title should be removed, unless it is a variant.

That would make sense, I spent ages looking at the two and couldn't figure out the difference other than the cover :)

Also here's a game in the Wii U section, that wasn't released for the Wii U, it seems people are getting that section confused with the Wii one :)

I was going through my collection and noticed that some of the box art images were slightly narrower than the rest - I'm assuming because a little white space was left in the image. Went into the database and it's very weird - of the dozens and dozens, perhaps hundreds of Commodore 64 carts listed, only 5 remain in the C64 NA cart section, every other cart has mysteriously been transported to the cassettes category.

Unfortunately still the same, cart games listed as cassettes. How do you go through them all and determine which ones go back to cart and which stay as cassette? I'm not nearly familiar enough with the C64 to determine this outside of the few carts I do own.

Even if the next game after Dragon Age: Inquisition would be called Dragon Age III, this probably wouldn't be the right listing for it.

By the way, I don't think direcritic would be allowed to post such a listing in their Collection even as a beta tester or whatever position.

I might be wrong about this, but I believe the Rapture edition of Bioshock and Bioshock 2 wasn't released outside of the US (For the 360 anyway, I think it was for the PS3)

The first of these the "Amiga ED" was a product that was supposed to be released in 1996, but never actually completed and released. No known prototypes exists. This should definiately be deleted

The AmigaOne SE and AmigaOne XE were not complete computers. They were standalone motherboards. If we allow such products, then yes, maybe these could stay?

This one, like my previous comment, is where vgcollect decides to draw the line, before you can go full-on with adding regular computer parts and software.

There is two entries for Starfox Adventures on the GameCube. Both are set to European releases. One however has USA cover art, and one has Euro cover art. Someone tagged the NTSC release as Euro by mistake. I tried to change it, and they denied my edit.

1. There is a lot of entries for "Little Big Planet" title items when it should be "LittleBigPlanet" (no spaces). I did not know the title was all one word either.

2. There is an entry for "NBA 2K10 10th Anniversary Edition" on the PS3. That should be deleted, because all of them say 10th Anniversary on it.

3. There is two entries for Motorstorm on the PS3 for the Not For Resale edition.

I was going to try to fix it, but thought maybe that what is in there shouldn't. I already checked and that text is not on the box. If that info gets removed, it could be stated that there is a bonus disc included for Tom Clancy's Endwar.

Found user necron99 who's basically creating new "Canadian release" entries for almost every game in their PS3 library (http://vgcollect.com/necron99/ps3). This raises the question: are the canadian releases any different than the US counterparts? If so how can we prove it? If it's just a product number difference (this is the case with modern nintendo games too) does that grant the game it's own entry?

The topic of inconsistent product numbers has been brought up before in THIS (http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,5802.msg82986.html) thread.

They are different because of their packaging. They are bilingual. If there is a case where, say, a Canadian release's contents are not unique, then it should be noted within the description as to that fact. Same would go for the euro DS games as well. In some cases, not only the product number is different but sometimes the artwork is different. This is true of sports games, where a "fellow countryman" will make the foreign release cover rather than who was on the US version.

That user seems to have added the entries correctly (notably the artwork appears to be bilingual) however the style guide says you should use [CA] instead of (Canadian release) in the title.

I take issue with this entry because its a component of a product and not a products its self. The same adapter can be found in a variety of NES carts and not just Gyromite.
The name is also messed up. 1st: Gyromite Gyromite? 2nd: 5 Screw cart. -Weird since the adapters are only found in 5 screw carts, so there's not really a point in titling it like that. Additionally there's already an entry for the 5 screw version.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D has a Dutch cover, and the cover has a watermark, which i can fix. But it also has the wrong barcode for that box. So what are we gonna do? I can make a new item for the Dutch version, or change this item to complete Dutch and make another entry.

I would not make it into the Dutch release just because there are 40 in collection. When it comes to items where this happens, I expect that 99% of the people who added it have the release as in the title. Another thing to consider is that many people may have added it to collection when there was no picture and that many people may not scrutinize things like the barcode or item number.

You should change the box art to match regular EU release (or the cart or whatever) and then make a new item for the Dutch version.

Or, that is what I would do.

Yeah, i know, but a Admin answering was better.

I will try a new entry, but i dont have a 'Neutral' box scan for the existing game.

I really should get this written down, but here's a site with images for all the ratings:

http://www.defconsoft.co.uk/database.gfx/ratings/full/

Basically - BBFC is only used in the UK, and the symbol has "BBFC" embossed in the background. ELSPA is usually shown with the logo itself and a number.

I just picked up one of these on the side, although not the one pictured. Then I realise it is a pack-in item for the console... so there shouldn't be a separate entry for it but instead noted on the console description as to which Play Beyond disc came with it. Looking on Ebay shows there are quite a few different versions of this disc and I suspect they all have different part numbers.

I would leave as is, as the Style Guide does not specifically mention what to do with EU games like that. However it does show this as an example:

Dragon Quest VIII: Sora to Umi to Daichi to Norowareshi Himegimi

Which is not "English" either. I think the style guide is using the wrong term here. The aim is so that people aren't entering "Symbol" characters into the name fields and to use "Roman" lettering... I think the use of the term "English" is incorrect.

So as it stands, having "El Padrino" is correct, and having the alt-name (the godfather) to reference what the game is known as in other regions is also correct. The only problem is that now, technically, based on the Style Guide the game name should be Padrino, El. :p

We do not have a restriction here on having pack-in items separate from the console listing.  For example someone may want to add Super Mario All-Stars + World to their collection, a game that was only sold as a pack-in title, but may not own a SNES, or the specific model of SNES that the game was bundled with.

This isn't a real release. In fact, the 12+ age rating in the bottom-left corner of the cover picture shows it isn't even a picture of a North American release, as NA releases don't use that kind of age rating.

I tried endlessly to find a black label copy of this game, I think it was for something like a year, and to this day it "eludes" me, and eludes Amazon, eBay, etc... pretty "elusive" :P

Sorry for this long post, but I have an issue with the listings for the greatest hits versions of Chrono Cross. I was thinking of submitting these edits by hand but I'm worried they'll be rejected because they're a little more drastic so I'm going to explain myself a little bit here  :)

So, there were two releases of the Greatest Hits version of Chrono Cross. One by Squaresoft, and one by Square-Enix. The Squaresoft version has Silver discs like most other GH PlayStation games. The SE release has matte white discs like other greatest hits games that Square-Enix  released later on for the PlayStation.

On VGCollect, there are two listings for this game. They aren't separated by publisher, but by one that says Silver Backed Discs. My issue is that the listing says that the silver is on the bottom, which I don't think is correct. Both versions have black bottoms on the disc. And the cover art for both listings is Square-Enix. They are essentially two SE releases.

Soooo, this is what I'm suggesting:

Take the one that says (Silver backed discs) http://vgcollect.com/item/25344 and

Change the name to Chrono Cross - Squaresoft

Change the Front box art to one with Squaresoft on the front
http://www.mobygames.com/game/chrono-cross/cover-art/gameCoverId,58630/platform,6/

Change the disc image to the silver ones
http://www.mobygames.com/game/chrono-cross/cover-art/gameCoverId,58634/platform,6/

Maybe put something in the description that says: Squaresoft release of Chrono Cross. Noticeable by the silver printed discs with the Squaresoft logo

For the other one  http://vgcollect.com/item/15224

Change the name to Chrono Cross - Square-Enix
http://www.mobygames.com/game/chrono-cross/cover-art/gameCoverId,305205/platform,6/

Maybe put something in the description that says: Square-Enix  reissue of Chrono Cross. Noticeable by the white printed discs with the Square-Enix logo
http://www.mobygames.com/game/chrono-cross/cover-art/gameCoverId,305209/platform,6/

The publishers would be changed too, etc. I can submit these edits if an admin has confirmed that these edits are ok. Like I said, I felt that if I submitted them without explaining why they would be rejected. If this is okay, let me know and I can submit them. Thanks :) Sorry again for the long post.

EDIT: Just submitted the edits, if I needed to submit them in another way, or something like that PM me! Thanks :)

RBI Baseball:

EDIT: Are movies allowed?
http://vgcollect.com/item/87330

It depends on the movie. Movies based on games are fine, but Tron isn't really based on a game...

I attempted to correct, Fire Emblem Awakening (http://vgcollect.com/item/35657)'s title by removing the colon, as there is not actually one in the title. However, my edit was rejected. The lack of a colon was actually confirmed by Bill Trinen a long time ago via twitter, here is his tweet (https://twitter.com/trintran/status/300068890803859456).

Someone made a listing for Poke Transporter, a linked application to Pokemon Bank. Because these two applications are downloaded together and can't be separated, I don't know if they should have separate entries. What do you guys think?

Poke Transporter

Pokemon Bank
http://vgcollect.com/item/60736

Official website for the service:
http://www.pokemonbank.com/en-us/transporter/
 (http://www.pokemonbank.com/en-us/transporter/)

EDIT: Never mind, I found I'm incorrect about them needing to be downloaded together

What should this singular entry be called?
Title: Re: Listing Errors 2015
Post by: telly on August 20, 2015, 12:11:41 pm
Probably just Pokemon Bank, if I had to guess... Maybe put something about the Poke Transfer in the description. Poke Transfer is just a part of the application that allows you to transfer your Pokemon from older games into Pokemon Bank, which is the large scale Pokemon Storage system.

EDIT: When you download Pokémon Bank, you can also download the linked application Poké Transporter. (From that website I mentioned)

I missed this important piece - Never mind, they should be kept seperatley since you aren't required to download both like I originally thought  :-[

A little while ago I made some listings for all the variants of Alundra, because the discs and inserts are a little different. I'm submitting an edit to change one of the name and description to fit in with the other entries, like how NES 3 screw and 5 screw carts have that designation next to both variants. Anyway, I thought I let the admins know beforehand :)

Thanks man! I'm going to hunt up some other variants to working designs games :) I'll talk about changes here.

Thunder Force V:
There are two variants of this game. Again, the discs are different, so I'll submit edits based on that Designated as "Main Ship" and "White Ship"
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/7674
My new item: http://vgcollect.com/item/90873

Vanguard Bandits
There are two listings for this game as different variants. I am almost positive the first one has the manual of the game as the cover, and searching through mobygames and ebay seems to show that the only variance is in the discs, not the cover art. I won't do anything until an admin can confirm that though
"Manual Cover" - http://vgcollect.com/item/7762
"Real? Cover" - http://vgcollect.com/item/54016

Silhouette Mirage - Will designate one as "Blue Man" and one as "White Man"
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/7511
My new item: http://vgcollect.com/item/90874

RayStorm - Will Designate one as "Blue Ship" and one as "Red Ship"
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/7395 - Red Ship
My new item: http://vgcollect.com/item/90875 - Blue ship

This: (http://vgcollect.com/item/69911 (http://vgcollect.com/item/69911)) is incorrectly listed under PlayStation Network (Vita). It belongs in PlayStation Network (PSP) [NA], but there is already a listing for it there (http://vgcollect.com/item/67282 (http://vgcollect.com/item/67282)). Also, both of these listings incorrectly are using the box art for the physical game instead of what is shown on the PlayStation Store.

Hopefully nobody will pay any mind to my massive picture error when making Starsweep for the PS1 [JP]- allready submitted an edit with the art I was supposed to upload from my desktop  :P

EDIT: I'm also working on the final Working Designs PS1 variants - the ones with multiple discs - Arc the Lad Collection and the 2 Lunar Games, as well as Raycrisis

Raycrisis
Two variants - the original will be "Ships" and the new item will be "Blue mech"
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/7388
My new item: http://vgcollect.com/item/91078 - made it JP because I'm dumb :P submitted an edit for that

Arc the lad Collection
Made some pictures to highlight how the discs are different, hopefully they'll be good enough! One will be "Black and Red" the original one will be "Colored"
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/6163
My new item: http://vgcollect.com/item/91079

Lunar - I'm not going to touch this one because I have no idea what to call the discs - there are four variants and they all have people on there that I don't know the name of, maybe someday I'll come back to this...

Lunar 2 - One will be "Main Cast" and the other will be "Support Cast" apparently that's how they're different
Original: http://vgcollect.com/item/6930
My New Item: http://vgcollect.com/item/91080

I'm at work now so I can't double-check to see how big the image I submitted was, but for future reference how big do they need to be? The site reduces them to a maximum width of 200 and I'm sure it was much larger than that. Just trying to understand.

^  I rejected it because the image updated was significantly smaller.

A lot of times I find that the edit queue can make the image seem smaller if there are other edits that cause the table to resize.  Before rejecting an image edit, try clearing out some of the other (usually text) edits and see if the image displays as its original size.

That whole section (Interactive Figures) is a real mess.

I feel like there are starting to be too many different kinds of interactive figures and that they really should be split up into what they are I.E. Amiibo's, skylanders, and Disney infinity also this would help with the animal crossing amiibo cards as they aren't technically figures. they are interactive cards.

MDK 2 Armageddon (PS2 Pal Version) : http://vgcollect.com/item/42333 (http://vgcollect.com/item/42333)

I've made an edit for it, the cover was wrong (it was the french cover, with the SELL rating on it and the two cover are very different too, i've already made a new entry for the french version) and i changed the rating too (PEGi wasn't aroung until 2003 and the game was released in 2001 ;) ). The item number, the barcode, and the back cover are still blank (it maybe need a better version for the front cover too :-\ ), i don't own this version and i can't seem to find it on the net.

Lethal Enforcers - The Justifier Bundle  -  http://vgcollect.com/item/30319  -  Delete Entry

Reason: There was only one version for Sega CD (US) that came with the "Justifier" gun and has the official name Lethal Enforcers.  Including an entry with a bundle name in the title is wrong.  This entry should be deleted and the entry at  -  http://vgcollect.com/item/9434  - should be kept.  I have included an entry in the "Description Field" saying how this version comes with the gun.

Disagree, at least with how the database currently works. Many collectors may only have the cart/box version only and not the entire box that contained the Justifier. A similar situation would be how pack-in BDs for the PS3 have their own entry rather than being lumped in with the consoles they come with.

See here for precedent:

Here is the entry in question (Prince of Persia - Collector's Edition Xbox 360 [NA])
http://vgcollect.com/item/21818
Of which this item is in 27 collections.

Here is the strategy guide:
http://vgcollect.com/item/57250

From what I can tell, the game on 360 is called Limited Edition, as can be seen on this Ebay auction with the guide:
www.ebay.com/itm/191734611767
Here is our entry for Limited Edition, which has no art currently:
http://vgcollect.com/item/91810

I don't want to pull the trigger and do the edits until we can get some other confirmation, only because the one that is wrong is in so many collections already.

Its been brought up before that pack-in items can be tracked as separate entries because you can (now) buy them on their own. I suspect this may change in the future once the database is changed so that you can specifically indicate that A item came in B package.

No shhhh!  :-X
 ;D
But an exception is made for pack-in games, even ones that were not available outside of the system purchase.
Being able to say x console came with  x model power supply, and have a checkbox and a picture of it, would solve this issue. Eventually the site should go to this step.

I'd like to see some clarification about this in the style guide for now.

For me it depends. I don't mind stock photos as long as they are correct. Not just the art but the correct ratings and extra logo placement, etc.

This is likely a dupe with one in the Hardware section

AC Adaptor

http://vgcollect.com/item/24664
Ac Adaptor was not sold separately. Was included with the system, or with PowerBack bundles.

Also this dealie, Handy Plug Plus
http://vgcollect.com/item/57106
A power adapter designed for use with either Game Boy or Game Gear (I've seen similar for NES/Genesis v2) and these should probably be put into some other category. Would it go into Other/Other?

Shovel Knight
Xbox Games Store (X360) [NA]

This game does not exist. It was never released on that platform, and as you can see, no users have it in their collections yet, and the cover art is not an XBox Live cover image. This listing should be removed

I submitted an edit on the 28th for Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Lionheart Edition (NA - Vita) filling in a bunch of the info, which was accepted. SilverBow sent in an edit a couple days later filling in the barcode & box text, which I didn't add, but in the process he deleted my description which told what was included in the special edition. So I just submitted another edit to re-add that. Here's the listing:

Sorry, but when I submitted the box text, it made your Description entry redundant. Besides, according to VGCollect's "Style Guide", your information is a verbatim quote from Amazon's promotional description, and thus, could be considered plagiarism and not allowed. I apologize again for taking the "Style Guide" too literally.

I tried submitting new images for a few games for PSN PS3 with images straight off of the Playstation store, but when they were (rarely) accepted they turned into pitch black squares. Tried resubmitting the right image but it was rejected.

Well, Amazon doesn't write those description burbs, they come from the publisher.  Anyway, no harm - I like having the field filled in even if it is somewhat redundant.

Another correction - Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (NA - PS3) has the back cover image in both the back cover & media fields. Plus, I'm pretty sure I see a watermark on it in the bottom-right corner:  http://vgcollect.com/item/22602

Look at the other corner, and you see mobygames  ;). You can take it from them now, cause they stop using watermarks.
