Title: PCEngine/TG-16 in PAL regions?
Post by: thekosmickollector on March 29, 2015, 04:00:18 am
I'm interested in getting a TurboGrafx-16/PCEngine but by the looks of things it's kinda complicated over here in the UK. Do I need to import or is there a very rare PAL release or something?

There are PAL TG-16's out there. From what I understand, the games are the same, between all TG-16 consoles. You would still need to do a region mod to play PC Engine games though.

As far as I know, as long as the game (hucard) says Turbo Grafx 16 it should work in any TG-16 system. I don't think there was region blocks.

The PC Engine seems to have many console variants (core, core II, shuttle etc.). Like the TG-16, these should be able to play any PC Engine cards.

Okay, thanks everyone! I'll seek out a PAL TH-16 and if nkt I'll probably import one from the US

The PAL TG16 should be able to play every US/PAL title released since they are the same thing(PAL unit just has different 50hz timings). With the PAL TG16 however there is a caveat to everything running at 50hz instead of 60hz. The games will run a tad bit slower and some may have glitches, slower BGM and slower SFX.

Since PAL TV's support 60hz natively you might be better off getting a NA TG16 to play the titles as intended. Or get a PCEngine and mod it to get the best of both worlds. PCEngine titles tend to be cheaper and the PCE has more variety that the NA TG16.
