What game have you sunk the most time into in your lifetime roughly? This doesn't necessarily mean your best game just the game you put the most time into.
I seem to notice people don't play there favorite game as much as you would expect.

According to Steam it's Team Fortress 2 with 190 hours and counting. Other than Steam it would have to be Shovel Knight with about 50 hours on PS4.

Pokemon Heart Gold Version by far: 520 hrs on one save, and probably more if you add in the time spend playing Nuzlockes :-[

It's Pokemon, plain & simple. I would hazard a guess and say Emerald claims the highest play time, but the collective series has definitely been a big part of my gaming life. Unusual since I only started playing the games around gen 3, I was at least about 10 years old by then.

It's funny, even though I spent a ton of hours playing Pokemon, it isn't really even close on my personal top ten list. I think in general I played all of my portable games to death, even stuff like Finding Nemo on GBA, etc.
Pokemon just had the most things to keep me occupied (Completing the HG/SS Pokedex, getting a black five star Trainer Card, etc.), and I've just always had a desire/tolerance to play portable stuff to a pulp more than console games. :P

Hands down the games me and my brother put the most time into was Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Superstar Baseball.

Probably Gran Turismo 2 or Gran Turismo 4. Burnout 3 is definitely up there too.

lets see on current saves of my games in mine and my brothers game collection that would hands down be Pokémon. the following are only the hours of the current save data and each has been reset multiple times.
Pokémon Red 460 hours
Pokémon blue 272 Hours
Pokémon yellow 771 hours (My favorite and when I finally got a link cable to transfer Pokémon)
Pokémon silver 0 (battery save must have died, was around 300 hours last I remember)
pokemon gold 895 Hours (most of this was leaving my sp on the charger. probably only 400-500 actual gameplay hours)
And those are just my most played titles I have between 100-300 hours in every pokemon game I own (except Y which I just got last month and that was mainly to complement the system I got it for)
After that the next closest game would probably be either dark cloud 2 (roughly 150 hours leveling weapons) or shadow of the colossus (beating the game ~50 times)

Pokémon seems to have a trend, that's my most played as well. I've probably put over 3000 hours across the series with Diamond Version having over 900 hours and Emerald Version having over 800 hours. Pearl, White, HeartGold, and X all have over 300 hours. Pokemon was certainly the main game I played during my childhood.

Dynasty warriors 3 easily, it took around 30 mins to an hour to beat one level if you killed everything, each char had 7 or 8 levels and there were like 40ish chars if i remember

Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Pokemon X are all around 300 hours for me

It's definitely the Elders Scrolls games, for me. Specifically Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and their expansions.
Not hard to do with those games. Sooooo much to do. And my all-time favorite game-series.

I Probably put over 800-900 hours into my Pokemon Emerald back in the (but that copy dissapered ages ago)
Second that i can actually prove is Pokemon Y at around 340 hours. If we're counting MMO's.... 11,000 on Runescape. >_>

I'm nearing 500 hours in RuneScape. Been playing off and on for around 8 years.
I probably have quite a few hours into Ocarina of Time and Smash Bros, but still not even close to 500.

I'd have to say EverQuest back in the day. Started playing in 2000 and heavily until 2004. Then off, and on until 2011. Sometimes I hop on the emulator server for kicks. I'd say I put at least 600 hours into that MMORPG.

Final Fantasy III (VI) EASILY!!!..... Spent about 10 years str8 having an active game going. Every play through i would just master it more and more and accumulate more and more. Atleast 3 separate times i level 99'd each character hunting those dinosaurs loaded up on experience eggs haha

To be fair, Gran Turismo is a bit RPG-like in certain ways, you have (or had to, I haven't played 5 or 6 in a while) to grind to get sufficient amount of credits by a car you need for a certain race, you have to pass various license tests to qualify for certain races, and the newer ones have a level system.

You'd probably like final lap twin for the pc engine then lol.

I don't have an hour count but the answer has to be Diablo II. I played it for about 8 years. I have 2 copies of the original game and two of the Lord of Destruction expansion. I would use both on 2 different computers. I also (used to) knew all there was to know about everything in-game. This also included the inner-workings of the game itself and knew how to mod it. Also remembered being very good at the trivia which concerned any sort of thing you could think of. While I never got any character to max level, I did end up getting all my characters at end-game equipment, all on Ladder. I even was able to make a 2-Frame druid werewolf and a few other things I had not seen anyone else accomplish like the invincible Werebear Paladin.

For console games it's a little harder.

Pokemon Ruby, Fire Red - Lots and Lots of Time
Fallout 3 - Several Freaking Hours
Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim - Hours Uncountable
MW2, MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops2, Ghosts - Hours I Don't Care to add up but they're there if I ever want to.

That's my #1 game of all time. I'd have to say it's my #2 of playtime. I remember only having it, Chrono Trigger, and Breath of Fire for my SNES. I still put in some time on FFVI when I can. Whether its my SNES port, PS Vita, or an emulator. Absolutely love that game! Oh, and I'd split time between the dino forest and the cactaur desert.

I never played it. I found that those Blizzard games ported to console didn't control the way I wanted them to. I found this out in Starcraft 64. So since then I just didn't try to play any of the other ports.

I would wager for me it was Warcraft 3 or LoL back when I used to play that. Game can suck up your life easily if you don't pay attention.

I think it is kinda cool how we can actually track game time now. Not like before then, when we can only really guess. Aside from D2, another one I put in a lot of time is Quake 3. I still play that every now and then.

313 hours: Fallout New Vegas
246 hours: Skyrim
245 hours: Civilization V
26 hours: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
26 hours: The Sims 3

The current main character I have on WOW clocks in at just under 20 days of gameplay. So, ~480 hours on that character. I would estimate somewhere around 700 hours total across all characters and the two times previously subscribing (I didn't play that much before). My wife got me into the game recently. So, most of my time is in that character. I'm considered a casual among my guild, I'm sure.
StarCraft may still beat that. I have no idea what the numbers are, but I played it religiously from 6th grad until 9th grade. That was probably the era I had the most free time toward gaming. Pokemon is way up there too. No estimate though.

Team Fortress 2 (PC) at 1458 hours is my most played. Nothing else has come close to that. Pokemon FireRed (GBA) at 264 hours and Terraria (PC) at 220 hours are in second and third place. Other than that I've got a handful of other games I've played for more than 100 hours, and some that I've played a lot but have lost save files or just don't know how much time I've spent on them.

I must be ADD when it comes games.
I'm going to say Red Dead Redemption. That is one of the VERY few games I've done everything in.

The game I'v put the most time into has to be Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare. I put just over 38 days into just the online feature of it, making that around 915 hours. I think it was just that much because I had just got my ps3 and played with friends almost every night. I would have only been in middle school so there was no such thing as homework or working!
Aside from that it would have to be Ni No Kuni with 132 hours. :)

So the way I think about it is how many times have I replayed a game, cuz playing Super Metroid over and over is far less time than playing FF7 over and over. I'm also not counting multiplayer games. In that sense, it would have to be Super Metroid which I've beaten like 20 times.

The only game I have played even near that amount (plus have documented) of time is Xenoblade Chronicles which was like 65 hours or something. That game took me almost a year to beat too mind you. 900 hours is almost forty days! Over a month! How could you play a game that long?

I'm assuming that most of the hours like my own were from when we were children and had much more time to play games plus back then we only had probably 10-20 different games to play. not like the hundreds/thousands we have now.

That was fairly consistent play. I beat the main story in about 2-months and then for about 3 or 4 months after attempted to beat those damn side bosses.

Probably Super Mario World. I must have played that a hell of a lot over the years.
Though the combination of all Pokemon games might come close.

Final Fantasy VII is most likely my top. I play it almost annually just because I love it.
Chrono Trigger is also up there because my friend and I play on Christmas every year.
Advance Wars as a series is definitely up there.
Fire Emblem as well.

Elder Scrolls IV and Dark Souls. Over 1,000 hours spent on each.

I have to echo the FFVII folks here.
Somewhere between 200-300 hours sounds about right.
First I played it on PC and 86 hours in got to Sephiroths final form.
After a 2 hour stalemate I realized I was gonna need to level grind. But summer was ending and a new semester was beginning so I set it aside.
Fast forward 2 years later I couldn't remember crap about the story so I played again from the start (on PS1).
Some 200 hours later I beat every weapon and beat the piss out of Sephy.
And I've never gone back.
Can't wait for the remake.
Having a real hard time thinking of any other game that even comes close.
Maybe Bravely Default at almost 100 hours. It's actually replaced FFVII as my favorite RPG of all time.

Final Fantasy IV 2D. Played the PSP version, the NTSC-U GBA version (with all superbosses defeated) and am currently playing the Wii VC version. I am also planning to play the PS1 and PAL GBA versions. I don't like the 3D remake.

It would probably go to Roller Coaster Tycoon. Back in the day, I went on binges of playing nothing but that everyday. Spent so many hours with it.

now that I think about it runescape takes the cake. with no definitive answer but I have had my current account for 12 years and before then I had an account for probably a year-year and a half till it was hacked. anyway about 13 years of account where the first 3 year I played religiously for 1 hour a day (me and my brother shared our 2 hour allowance because internet was pay per time used not pay per month) so ~1000 hours. quit playing for a year till internet turned to a pay per month model played for a year at about 2-3 hours a day so ~1200 hours. qut for 3 years picked it back up for ~6 months at 4 hours a day so ~700 hours. quit till I went to college and played for 1 and a half years at about 4-5 hours a day so ~2500 hours. quit till august of 2015 and have been playing on average about 6 hours a day ~3 on weekdays and 8-12 on weekends so ~900 hours so far this time.
so I have sank ~6300 hours into runescape total. (of course most of those numbers are a rough estimate but I am beyond confident that I have put over 5000 hours into it)... almost 9 months in 13 years.. god I must love this game. that and the fact that depending on what skill you do you can afk and do other things, like watch tv.
EDIT: just so you know runescape 3 scares me and I will only play rs2

That would be Diablo 2 and Age of Empires 2/3 on the PC. Despite mostly being a console gamer and not liking to stick with particular games excessively (used to be I didn't even beat them, now I at least try to finish them), there was a period of time like 15 years ago when these were constantly in front of my eyes. The only other games which might come close are Oblivion (ES IV) and Fallout 3, both of which I've beaten from the beginning a few times.

When I reviewed games in the late 90s - early 2000s I was sent a free copy of Final Fantasy XI Online and the PS2 hard drive.
So I started playing FFXI to write a review and ended up playing it for about eight years, I started on the PS2 and ended on the XB360.
I spent so much time building a character then quit due it became to much to keep it up and now the servers are being shut down this month. Eight years of my life and everything I built is gone, I can never go back.
This is part of the reason I don't like online only games, I have sworn to myself to never play another MMORPG especially one that requires a monthly fee.

The only way to play online games overall without regrets is to be pro at them and join tournaments and earn money with them. Still hough the chances and the people who already do this make the chances kinda slim.
Leaugue of legends players for example earn sometimes millions. even the lesser players earn 100.000's a year still though you have to be really good. I highly doubt those people will have any regrets when Lol quits with them servers.

I´ve finished Pokemon Omega Ruby recently and even trying to focus on the game, i spent 110 hours on it. Trading pokemon is addictive. But what really scares me is that i often traded with people with over 800 hours of game. Once i saw a guy with 1,200 hours. I guess those are people that just play Pokemon and nothing else...

im guessing they are like what I was like as a kid. too poor to have too many games, and too much free time to just play. plus do not forget people may leave the game on for long periods of time without turning it off (sleeping, chores, friends, etc). plus filling out the pokedex is incredibly time consuming.

Hmmmm, maybe. I can´t remember if Pokemon OR counts hours while on sleep mode. Maybe kids are more likely to let their 3ds´s on all the time (something i avoid doing with mine so the batteries and screens dont get worn out so quick... just an old habit).

I'll second your sentiments on online-only games. No matter what, when those servers go offline everything you have done is gone.

I probably have a insane amount of hours put into Shining Force 2 and Gran Turismo 3. SF 2 was my go to game as a kid and GT3 as I got closer to adulthood. I still play them once in a while, just nowhere close to as much as I used to.
Then there's WoW. I don't like to talk about WoW.

I spend a lot of time on Mario games trying to collect everything and put a lot of time in the parties games with friends. Other than that RPGs take up a lot of my time.

The fact that I don't know exact hours, I'm gonna call it a cross tie between Timesplitters 2, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas. I put in over 800 hours in both Fallout games individually. I don't have any way of finding how much time I put into Timesplitters 2, because I've lost saved data multiple times, and I owned the game for both PS2 and GCN, and put a lot of time into both platforms. I'd venture to guess I have more time into the Timesplitters franchise than all Fallout games combined.

The games I've most time into are "Tales of Symphonia" and "Gears of War 3" or "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition".
Buuuuut completing "Terranigma" took me like 6 years because I didn't want to finish the game ever, so I stopped playing for a year every time I finished a level.
I really miss that, hahaha.

look at the bright side your doing better than me. when I want to catch every pokemon what I do is I will always catch however many evolutions their are of a pokemon so that I would literally have all the pokemon. on gen 1 I had all the pokemon all 151 (yes I went to an event that gave out legit copies of mew) of them all received legit and all organized in my pc by number. I was on my way to doing this in second gen too but could not finish it all the way. (its been a while but I believe their wasn't enough box space to do this properly)

I was on my way to doing this in second gen too but could not finish it all the way. (its been a while but I believe their wasn't enough box space to do this properly)
I've been playing since Red on GB. And every generation I catch everything pokemon legit and every generation I start a new (minus the events I always just up trade them). I started to do the shiny living dex as a challenge and boy has it been

Unquestionably WoW, even though I've barely touched it in 5 years. I was a semi-hardcore raider until the end of Cataclysm. Last time I logged on and checked it was hundreds of days.
If you want to remove multiplayer from the equation it becomes a bit harder. When I was a teen I got really into some god-likes and strategy games, so SimCity 2000, Command & Conquer, and Imperialism are all up there.
If we want to talk modern games it is probably Bloodborne, maybe Skyrim.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - ??? (In the hundreds)
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - ??? (nearly a hundred, I've been playing it for the past 9 years and have beaten it at least 6 times)
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair - 500+ (farming for Valmanway+1, Claimh Solais+1, miser rings, 10Million gold etc.)
Super Mario 64 - over 100 (funny enough I speedrun it so I put a lot of time in to put less time in per run)
Terraria - 277
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Project M) - 100+, used to host tourneys with friends twice a month for a couple years
Final Fantasy VII - 140 over 2 runs with Knights of the Round and Final attack materia farming in the northern cave.

That's hard for me to say since I played so many games over my lifetime. It would have to be a RPG though. I would say Chrono Trigger on the SNES. I even spent the extra time to see all 11-something endings.
