Title: Barcode starting with 00 cannot be put onto entry

The barcode on the entry is: 9119920513
The barcode on the item is: 009119920513.

Trying to put in the actual barcode shows the "edit pending approval" message on the page but never actually gets submitted as an edit.

However, some items in the db do have a barcode starting with 00, such as this Mega CD [EU] version:

This is going to sound a little bit dumb but when a UPC starts with a zero it is unnecessary. in fact barcode scanners often leave them off when products are scanned. its only necessary information if it starts with an 8 or some other number other than zero. additionally when it starts with a zero it also ignores the last number. that's how we have 10 and 12 digit UPC numbers even though all UPC's are actually 12 digits long.

so for your example a barcode scanner really only reads "0911992051" where as the barcode may actually be "009119920513" printed on the box

That may be the case but the style guide has always had us putting in all 12 digits of the barcode, since those are all the numbers on the box. That said, it's definitely weird that that 00 entry caused a problem.  :o
