Title: Games in 2019
Post by: kamikazekeeg on December 13, 2018, 03:58:20 pm
We are on our way out of 2018 and 2019 is on the horizon, so what games got you excited for next year?

Metro Exodus - This is one of my big hype games for next year as I love this series. After some delays, it finally is coming out and even got a slightly earlier release than planned just yesterday.  I'm loving the idea that this game is still keeping up with the "Linear Exploration", but expanding on that with even bigger areas to explore this time and through different seasons.

Pokemon 2019* - There's an asterisk on this, because while I'm interested in a proper Pokemon game on console after Let's Go, my hype is based purely on how much they add and change the series.  I want a bigger and better game than what they've done before with the series.  Let's Go made me feel like that was a test bed for this one, which wouldn't be great, but what I mostly want to see is them keeping Pokemon on the field, a better story, everything being less stiff, and generally a bigger world to explore.  Not wanting Breath of the Wild level or an open world, just something that doesn't feel so linear.  If it just ends up being Let's Go with Pokemon Battles and whatever story it is, but plays the same, I probably won't be super interested.

Resident Evil 2: Remake - I am not a fan of the old RE games, I never have, the gameplay always never worked for me, and I only recently pushed myself through through Resident Evil 1 Remastered and a failed run through Resident Evil 0.  That said, I've always liked Resident Evil for what it was with it's dumb B-Movie story, so to get that with high quality visuals and gameplay, especially after RE7, has me so excited for this game.

Rage 2/Days Gone/Far Cry: New Dawn/Dying Light 2 - I'm clumping these all together as I'm sure everyone has their settings they enjoy in games or movies.  For me, I've long been into post-apocalyptic stuff.  Zombies, mutants, all that fun stuff, so next year it's just overflowing with these.  Rage 2 and Far Cry: New Dawn are honestly very similar games, one just being more scifi than the other, and Days Gone is a more simpler third person shooter, but could be alright.  I fee like personally Dying Light 2 is abit more standout gameplay wise I feel as the first game was so good.

Ori and the Will of the Wisp - The first Ori is fantastic, one of the better metroidvania games I've played in the past few years, with beautiful visuals, and this looks no different and maybe even better looking.

Kingdom Hearts 3 - I've always enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts ideas, but never kept up with the series past the first two games back in the day, but the new game looks like such a fantastic new time and looks gorgeous.  I'm going through the first two games again right now before this comes out.

Mortal Kombat 11 - I've never been an MK player, because I was never super into how it played, I always preferred the controls how Street Fighter did it, and I'm not even a huge fan of fighting games, but with even better graphics and utilizing the really cool customization stuff of Injustice 2, this sounds like it'll be a fun game to check out.  Spawn is rumored to be one of the guests, which is pretty great.

Honorable Mentions:  These are more for games that I'm unsure of at the moment, but do interest me, they just might not have a lot of info otherwise, or are just things I might pick up, but not jumping to get them, or have no confirmed release date and may not make it this year...Star Wars: The Fallen Order, Skull & Bones, Sekiro, The Outer Worlds, Devil May Cry 5, Code Vein, Battletoads, Bayonetta 3.

Resident Evil 2 Remake, for me.

Love the old-school RE games, and 2 is the best of the bunch. Cannot wait!

I could easily see them make RE3 after this.  It's the only other likely one they could remake and most of the groundwork is already there with RE2.  I'd kinda love to have them remake RE1 again, so I could play through it with the new visuals and better gameplay, but I can't imagine they plan to do that any time soon.

I've seen rumors online that they're already working on a RE3 Remake.

I'd also love to see a Code Veronica remake, since it's the direct sequel to RE2. Give us more ammo this time around, though.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is definitely towards the top. It isn't confirmed, but I'd bet money Doom Eternal will get a 2019 release, which if it did it would definitely go a the top of the hype list.

Right, that could be out next year too.  I'm pretty hype for this one compared to what I was with the first game, so this would be great to get this game too.

For me it's gonna be -

Sekihiro: Shadows Die Twice and Resident Evil 2 Remake! Maybe Devil May Cry 5 as well....

I want to like Devil May Cry 5, I love everything I'm seeing about it, but after trying to play DMC4, I'm unsure.  I really didn't like the gameplay, it didn't feel comfortable and smooth to me compared to say Bayonetta and I don't know how it plays in comparison to DMC4.

Funny, I actually prefer DMC4's feel over Bayo's. That said, DMC4 came out first and given Bayo is made by the original DMC team, I'm sure DMC5 will incorporate some of Platinum's innovations of the genre.

Other than DMC5, I'm hoping Indivisible makes it out in 2019.

Sekiro looks really good, shame I don't have a PS4. Kingdom Hearts should get people excited too.

In Switch news, I think Metroid will be a fall release and am excited at the prospect of it. Might get Pokemon too if it looks good (no Go catching mechanics, please.) With how long its been taking, I don't have much hope for Retro's next game being on store shelves, but it would be nice if after 4 or 5 years they finally tell us what they are making for 2020.

It's just the button combinations, sometimes needing to hold a button to then get out different attacks, and at no point in my few hours of playing the game did it feel like I was better understanding the game or that I was reliably doing moves better.  Bayonetta is much easier in that it's mostly about just attack combinations and it all blended so smoothly gameplay wise for me.  Bayo just kinda spoiled me I think, so if DMC5 is better, then I'm very much into checking out the game.

Devil May Cry 5
Resident Evil 2 remake
No More Heroes Travis Strikes Again
Those 3 are my "locked in" games since we have a release date and those dates are close.

Other than that not a game but I actually really want to see the detective Pikachu movie. And since Ryan Reynolds is playing Pikachu you know people are going to overdub pikachu with Deadpool lines and that alone will make it worth it

Sekihiro: Shadows Die Twice and Resident Evil 2 are the 2 games which are on my 'must try' list, other than that Kingdom Hearts 3 might be interesting (but I'm not going anywhere near it till I've played the first two) and the other 2019 games are likely to be limited releases or Japanese things which I don't know anything about yet, but we'll  have to see how much trade-in fodder I can dig up before I get too excited.

Someone mentioned Metroid Prime 4...I'm definetly looking forward to that, as well.

But I haven't heard a thing about it besides the teaser we got 2 E3s ago. I have serious doubts about getting that next year.

My 2019 is looking busy already...

Kingdom Hearts III - this is the big one, I'm currently playing through the series again in build up to this and loving it! They've also announced that the game is complete so I am not expecting it to fumble around like Final Fantasy XV

Resident Evil 2 - RE has made a big come back for me this generation, i have a stack of them which is a wonderful thing:
But this game in particular looks to have mastered what the s eries was conflicting over for many years - 3rd person action controls & a Horror atmopshere. I can't wait to play thsi it looks proper Triple-A like Shadow fo the Colossus was but really re-inventiving the scenario.

Devil May Cry 5
- Looks promising, also it looks like the game will be a complete release with the Special Editions offering minor tat.

Crash Team Racing
- A really big deal with me and friends, we used to play this game 4-player, Multi-Tapped up till midnight on many occassions. I'm hoping it controls and feels just like the orgiinal.

Judgement
- The new game from the Yakuza creators, I was hoping for the ports of Yakluza 3, 4 & 5 but I will settle for this

Shenmue III
- I backed the KickStater with over £300, it's a very big deal to me as one of the most compelling and original games I've ever played. I'm hoping they've had enough budget and time to capture the spirit of the original - The original English voice actor is currently going through lines :)

Beyond that I won't get much time but I would like to blast through the Wolfenstien games, Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, Vampyr & Ni No Kuni. But tinme is alreafy looking very tight within releases.

How the hell did I forget about Shenmue 3?!

I have serious doubts that it will actually come out this year, but if it in fact does then yes, this is by far my most hyped game of 2019, even if Doom Eternal gets released next year too. I threw huge sums of money at the KS and I guess I forgot about it since updates have been sparse recently and it's been in development so long I sort of forgot that it actually had an official release date now.

On a side note, I am really hoping that RE3 gets the remake treatment on the PS4 as well. It would be incredible to have RE0 through RE7 all on one console. Reminds me of when all the RE games up to RE4 were all available on the Gamecube. It felt like a complete anthology on one console.

Main ones for me are Tales of Vesperia Complete Edition and Jump Force. And if it gets a 2019 release, Dragon Age 4.

Like most of you, my big hitters are Resi 2 and Sekiro.

I'll be keeping an eye on the reviews for Biomutant, Code Vein, Bloodstained, and Ghosts of Tsushima.

My most anticipated games are :

Biomutant
Super Neptunia RPG
Granblue Fantasy Relink

Hopefully Dragon Quest Builders 2 gets more info out there. Same with Final fantasy VII remake. And then eventually Darksiders IV.

Looking forward to several that have been mentioned already, but my most anticipated right now are (in no particular order):

Biomutant
Bloodstained
Dying Light 2
Mortal Kombat 11

And if by some miracle it makes it out next year, Cyberpunk.

With rumors that the PS5 will be out this time next year, I have to wonder which games I'm currently anticipating will actually be next gen games. The FF7 remakes are pretty much a lock, and probably Cyberpunk as well.

The games I'm looking forward to the most off the top of my head is the Resident Evil 2 Remake, Death Stranding and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I haven't been paying very much attention on games for the past year or so, I have some catching up to do. Oh and also Final Fantasy VII remake if that ever comes out? Not sure what the status is on that.

Pokemon (An actual Pokemon game)

The name should be what it's called  ;D.  I sold my Pokemon let's go pikachu after 2 days which is very rare for me. It's unplayable and just way too easy for me.  It's so watered down and the pokemon go system isn't for me.  I just couldn't enjoy it so sold it while it was hot off the press :).

I hope we get new gen of pokemon, that'd be amazing.  But I will settle for Current roster with some new forms like Moon did with alolans.  I loved moon.

PLEASE BE ON SWITCH. LET 3DS DIE A SLOW DEATH  ;D ;D ;D  JK but I do hope Switch gets this game.

Kingdom Hearts III

I have waited for this since I was a kid and hope it lives up to expectations. I'm really excited for a toy story world.  :).  I had a dilhema trying to buy this game on preorder because it was always PS but I like Xbox for 3rd party stuff because 4k.  So I got it for Xbox.

Yoshi

Pretty excited for a non port platformer on Switch. It looks beautiful and doesn't seem to rely on gimmicks like motion controls or wierd objectives.  Might just be classic side jump Yoshi

The last of Us 2?

One year..... one year they will lol.

GTA 6?

One year..... one year they will lol.

Crackdown 3

Moderatley excited for this one but not too much.

Yoshi's Crafted World
I absolutely adored Whooly World on Wii U and this looks to be a nice evolution to that.

Luigi's Mansion 3
I am so excited for this because I never expected to ever get another console release for this series. I just sincerely hope they can mesh 1 and Dark Moons best features together.

Pokemon 2019
I think that "Lets Go" was a test to see how people would react to certain changes to the series as a whole and maybe they will use it to as a benchmark to change the main series accordingly. I also have high hopes that with the creative shift we've seen in other Nintendo games like Zelda and Mario it might give Gamefreak the kick in the ass that they've needed to truly evolve the franchise into something new and unique while still sticking to their roots.

Ghosts of Tsushima
I heard nothing about this game until the trailer at E3 and I instantly fell in love with it.

The first half of the year is basically this for me right now.  Certain games will get delayed as I'm not playing Kingdom Hearts 3 or Far Cry: New Dawn right away, set aside for more important games and I'm mostly just gonna wait to hear how Days Gone and Sekiro are.

Jan 25 - Resident Evil 2
Jan 25 - Kingdom Hearts 3
Feb 15 - Metro Exodus
Feb 15 - Far Cry: New Dawn
March 22 - Sekiro
April 23 - Mortal Kombat 11
April 26 - Days Gone
May 14 - Rage 2

That there isn't anything on Switch, at least not announced currently for the first half of the year is pretty disappointing.  Reminds me of last year when there wasn't much till the end of the year.

Games I am interested in for 2019 hmmm ...

Rage 2 (like Mad Max but on steroids)
Pokemon 2019
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Ghost of Tsushima
The Last of Us: Part II
Cyberpunk 2077

Games I would like to mess around with for an hour but wouldn't play enough to justify the price:

Mortal Kombat 11
Crash Team Racing
