Classic Video Games / Xbox 360 game recommendations
« on: January 26, 2019, 11:33:38 am »
I found an Xbox 360 S 4GB with all the cords, a controller, and a Kinect at my local Goodwill the other day. Since it was priced at roughly half of what other stores are offering it for these days, I naturally snatched it up. Now I need some games to play! I already have Skyrim and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. There's so much available for the platform that I'm kind of overwhelmed. Do any of you have recommendations or favorites to share?

I'm not a huge fan of FPS or sports games, but I'm open to pretty much everything else.

I live in Nashville, and it's situation sounds eerily similar to Denver's. @.@
Ayup.  I avoid Nashville proper at all costs.

Also - I completely forgot that you lived here Kash and was like “Whoa another Nashvillian!”

Nice! I live in rural west TN somewhere between Memphis and Nashville. Rent is pretty affordable here. I spent a year in a 3-room above-garage apartment for $325/month and my wife and I now live in a 2-bedroom duplex for $625/month (with commodities such as a garage, laundry, etc.). One of the bedrooms serves as my game room, ha.

Classic Video Games / Family-friendly original Xbox games
« on: November 02, 2017, 07:53:59 pm »
The library at a university in my hometown is hosting a "Video Game Night" in late January. It will feature game consoles from the second generation onward. I've been asked to bring my original Xbox to represent the sixth generation. However, one stipulation is that I need to provide around half a dozen games that would be considered "family-friendly". They should also be pretty easy to pick up, play, and put down after a few minutes (so no SoulCalibur II, Dead or Alive, or Prince of Persia). I own the Star Wars: The Clone Wars / Tetris Worlds and Sega GT 2002 / JSRF combo discs, and those are the only ones I think would pass. I might be able to include Halo 2 since I don't think there's too much language/blood/gore/etc in the multiplayer mode.

I'd like to include between 2-5 additional games. My knowledge of and experience with Xbox is very limited, though. So what good/enjoyable games are available on the Xbox that are "family-friendly" and easy to experience in a pretty short amount of time?

Devil Dice is a great fast-paced puzzle game and Crash Team Racing is an enjoyable kart racer. Final Fantasy Origins is a nice graphical and audio update to the first two Final Fantasy games that maintains much of their original difficulty, but it doesn't have the bonus dungeons that came with later remakes. That may be a sticking point for you.

Hardware and Tech / Gamecube Controller Directional Stick Repair
« on: November 11, 2016, 07:39:26 pm »
I have a Wavebird controller that has a very worn left directional stick cover. I figure I can either repair it myself or enlist the services of someone else to repair (and clean) it. But I've never done either of those things before, so here are my questions. If I were to repair it myself, do any of you have any recommendations about which (if any) aftermarket replacement sticks I should use? And if I were to pay someone else to do it, do you have any recommendations for who to ask?

"Are you sure you're not addicted?"

Actually, that's a fair question.

Melee: Dr. Mario, Yoshi, Mewtwo, or Link
Brawl Project M: Game & Watch, Yoshi, Link, Ike, R.O.B., Mewtwo, Bowser...I actually enjoy using pretty much every character
Smash 4: Robin, Link, Cloud, Peach, or Dr. Mario

I think my favorite so far is Shovel Knight. It's well-designed and doesn't have a huge support structure like some of the Smash line do. Not to mention that Shovel Knight is just a charming character in general.
