News / Re: Advanced Style Guide update and feedback thread
« on: January 15, 2024, 09:37:08 pm »
I'm pretty confused with the explanation for Item numbers in the style guides. Not only in comparison of the two guides, but mostly because of the advanced guide itself.

The advanced style guide ( https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10837.msg178223.html#msg178223 ) has a priority list as
Quote
The priority list of which number is added to the item number field in the DB is:
1. The spine or side
2. The back
3. The front
4. Hidden or only on sealed samples
5. The media
Additional item numbers should be put into the description.

In the following explanations front and media is never mentioned but I think front is still pretty clear.

Hidden or only on sealed samples is within that 5 point list, but the explanations states those numbers should put into the description.
For the hidden numbers:
Quote
In the previous example we had shown how Nintendo has a number to represent the game, and another to represent the release. On older boxed releases this is the same but the item numbers are printed on the box tab/flap. Because it is impossible to see this number on a sealed sample, we put this into the description instead.

Just like the box flaps I wouldn't see the Item number of the Media on a sealed sample. Additionally the hidden numbers are prior to media on the list. Would I put media numbers in the description as well?
If so, I think the official style guide would also be misleading.

From the official style guide ( https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,22.0.html ):
Quote
Item numbers are the factory assigned number given to each product. Item number field priority is: Package spine, Package back, or that which is printed on the enclosed media. Additional item numbers can be put into the description field, including where that item number is located.
So the priority is
1. Spine
2. Back
3. Media

While I'm not sure about the media, based on the advanced guide I would have assumed to put the box flap number into the Item number field.

It seems i'm unable to find any information on SNSP-ARJP-EUR-2, everything I see is the SNSP-ARJP-EUR-1 for THQ.

If it's confirmed by some sources for the JVC release to have been released on March 30, 1995, that information can be supplied and will be approved if it's resubmitted
It might not be perfect proof but I still want to show what I found

I just researched for a bit and ended up looking through old magazines linked in the sources of the Wikipedia page for the game. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Star_Wars:_Return_of_the_Jedi )

JVC
- Source 12 is a PDF which has a review of Return of the Jedi on page 122-123 (Or 150-151 in the PDF) which only mentions JVC as the publisher.
- The back side of the manual of the JVC version also states it's exclusively published and distributed by JVC ( A readable picture of the manual is in this offer https://www.ebay.de/itm/134467651291 ).

THQ
- Source 6 of Wikipedia is also a PDF which states that Super Return of the Jedi will be rereleased by THQ alongside the special editions of the movies in 1997 (Just a short sentence in brackets on the bottom of page 22).
- The manual of THQ also does not mention any exclusivity ( A readable picture of the manual is in this offer https://www.ebay.de/itm/364631466342 ).

This would align with the info from gamefaqs.
Most other sources I saw state that the original release was by JVC and THQ only did a rerelease but those were mostly only some forum entries or sites were I don't know if the info is user distributed - such as snes central.

EDIT: Added the Wikipedia page for better traceability

(I guess this thread is correct until one is created for 2024?)

My edit of the release date for Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (JVC) ( https://vgcollect.com/item/64426 ) was rejected.
The comment was
Quote
There are two variants for this item. Until we can confirm when exactly each was released, no Date field information should be supplied.
Are those two versions from THQ / JVC?
I got the date form gamefaqs ( https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/563220-super-star-wars-return-of-the-jedi/data ) where the THQ version is listed with a release in 1997 whereas the JVC version is from 03/30/1995, which I tried to enter.

Do I miss another version of JVC?

My edit of the item number for Lylat Wars [DE] (https://vgcollect.com/item/40187) was rejected.
I used the number above the barcode on the back of the box.
Any reason why it was rejected?

For reference: this ebay offer has a good image of the back

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Ratings on Items with Multiple Ratings

I will pay more attention if multiple ratings are present. Should the Baten Kaitos example be removed or replaced to a better one?

Video Game Database Discussion / Ratings on Items with Multiple Ratings
« on: December 28, 2023, 07:13:39 pm »
Hey

I had a recent rejected edit on an item because I used the wrong rating (USK) on it, even though it was a general European release ( https://vgcollect.com/item/142190 ). So ELSPA would have been correct since it's not a German exclusive. - This one is clear to me.

I  just created the German entry for Persona 5 Tactica on Switch ( https://vgcollect.com/item/259181 ). Without a second thought I used the USK rating since everything on the box is German and I bought it in Germany.  After creation I saw the PEGI logo on box and after the recent rejected edit I wasn't sure if I need to switch the rating of the entry.

Looking into the Advanced Style Guide and the explanation for ratings with the example of Baten Kaitos, I'd say the info provided is correct (To save the search: https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10837.msg178222.html#msg178222 ). But looking into Baten Kaitos ( https://vgcollect.com/item/151319 ) the rating was changed from USK to PEGI even though this entry is the example for using the USK on multi-rating-entries. Since someone had to approve the edit, I'm not quite sure if I miss something here, the Style Guide should be updated or if the edit should be reversed.

Release date for Air Raid 3 (https://vgcollect.com/item/136934) was rejected because GameFAQs (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps2/940043-air-raid-3/data) has a different date listed.

There are multiple releases of Air Raid 3, some with a different name (https://www.mobygames.com/game/104025/air-raid-3/releases/)
While there is a German version of it which released in 2006 (like GameFAQs listing) it released as Combat Ace with the EAN 8717774870891. The Item above with EAN    8717774870075 released in 2007 according to Mobygames.
I found a European release (https://www.gamepressure.com/games/air-raid-3/zc25e0#ps2) released on 23.02.2007.

Tried to accept the developer with enter, which created the entry. I Didn't notice since I instantly went back and created another entry with more information

Edit2 : Nvm. Got confused since the box has different age ratings, the game is always the same

I hope this is the right place since it isn't really a rejected edit but a merged new entry.

I created a Xenoblade Chronicles X Wii U bundle version with multiple age ratings. The existing entry only has the PEGI rating. Since there are two different versions, why got one deleted?

On consolevariations you can see both versions. ( https://consolevariations.com/variation/console/nintendo-wii-u-xenoblade-chronicles-x-bundle )

Edit: The PEGI only version got deleted.

The [DE] in the title got removed even though it has the USK logo without any other logo. The title ist now the same as here https://vgcollect.com/item/170339
Might I ask why?

My back box art was to big so it didn't created the entry correctly.
Since I didn't get any feedback I needed a few tries to realize whats wrong and created 3 empty entries

Edit: Item was edited

https://vgcollect.com/item/11756

Posted about it in another thread but was told to post it here.

Front Box Art:
German version (SNSP-AXOP-NOE). It has the gray "PAL VERSION" printed beneath the red "SUPER NINTENDO"

Back Box Art:
French / Benelux version. It's the only one with two languages

Cart/Disc/Media Art:
French / Benelux version. There are two lines printed above the item number

Item number:
SNSP-AXOP-NOE -> German version

14
Okay, thanks. Thought I'd do as much work as possible myself. I'll post it there then.

Hey all,

first post, I hope it's okay to start a new topic for this, I didn't find something for this in the forum.
I hope this is not to incomprehensible, I'm from Germany and there are definitely better Englisch speakers.

I was wondering what I should do when I encounter an item with mixed regions.

As an exaple I take this item: https://vgcollect.com/item/11756

Front Box Art:
Represents the German version (SNSP-AXOP-NOE). It has the gray "PAL VERSION" printed beneath the red "SUPER NINTENDO". The French / Benelux version (SNSP-AXOP-FAH) has something printed in Dutch and French. The European version (SNSP-AXOP-EUR) has nothing beneath.

Back Box Art:
Represents the French / Benelux version. It's the only one with two languages. The German one has only German, the European one has three languages (English, Spanish and Italian).

Cart/Disc/Media Art:
Represents the French / Benelux version. There are two lines printed above the item number. The German and European version has only one line above.

Item number:
SNSP-AXOP-NOE, therefore the German version. But it doesn't match the Back Box- / Cart Art.

Should I change
 1. title, front art and item number to the FAH-version, because it matches the cartridge which has the item number
 2. title, back art and cart art to the NOE-version, because it matches the item number
 3. front art, back art, cart and item number to the EUR-version, because the Style Guide wants the general European / UK version without TLDs in the title?

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks!
