General / Tekken director wants to make a Xenosaga HD collection, is looking for support

You can read his tweet on the subject here, and reply to give him your support.  He's looking for as many unique responses as he can get instead of repeated replies by the same person.  This would be AWESOME, I'd love to see this happen.

BTW, this could realistically go in either Classic or Modern games, but to get as many views as possible & because it kinds fits both I decided just to put it in General, hopefully that's ok.

Modern Video Games / 3 New 3DS XL Styles Coming to US (2 Are Gamestop Exclusive)

Like the title says, 3 new 3DS XL styles have been announced for the US.  The Smash Bros. one I think was already announced, but the other 2 - the Gamestop exclusives - are definitely new:


Comes in red & blue, available Sept. 19.

Gamefly's September sale starts this morning at 10:00 PST.  Fair warning, I personally stopped buying disk based games from them because all of the ones I received had tiny "chips" knocked out of the edges of the disks.  We're talking stuff that typically doesn't affect gameplay & usually isn't really noticeable unless you feel along the edge of the disk, but if you're picky like I am you won't like it.    That said, I'm probably going to try to snag a copy of Demon Gaze for the Vita to re-assemble my LE of that.

Modern Video Games / Nintendo Direct - New Xenoblade Announcements!

So I didn't watch the announcements, I read about them on other forums & websites.  So the first thing I saw from it was the new 3DS hardware, and didn't think much of it.  Colored buttons, new tiny stick, supposedly faster - ok, but I don't see any reason to upgrade from my current XL.  Then I read that they're porting Xenoblade to it.  Ok, well, if that hits the US then mark me down for the console & game.  I'm a MASSIVE Xenoblade fanboy, so I'm in.  Would rather have had it hd on the Wii U, true, but I'll take whatever they give me. 

So then I read on.  Before I post this next bit, this is my history with the new Smash Bros.:

Game is announced - I don't care, not a big SB fan
Game coming to both Wii U / 3DS - still don't care, don't like fighters on handhelds & still not a big SB fan
Announce Pac-Man as a playable character - cool, but I still don't really care, not a big SB fan
...
Announce Shulk as a playable character - *goes to put down preorder on new SB game*

Video Game Database Discussion / Edit Rejections / Changed Edits Questions

I was adding the NA PSN version of Wild Arms 2 when I noticed a ton of "garbage" characters in the box text, so I submitted an edit that removed them but it was rejected.  Here's a link so you can see the characters I'm talking about - they show up in front of the trademark logos:

Am I the only one seeing the garbage characters and that's why my edit was rejected, or did the person reviewing it just not notice them?  Trying to see if I'm going crazy here.

Marketplace / Atari 2600 bundle

Basically just gauging interest in this right now.  I do want to sell it, just not sure what the best way to go about it is.  I'll have to list the games when I get home, but I believe I have around 20 - 25, ranging from common titles to a few more obscure (but nothing super valuable AFAIK).  The system was mine when I was a kid, and it's been taken extremely good care of.  My mom has had it stored in a box in a closet for years now, so cool dry place.  The games fall into 2 categories - over half of them I bought new as a kid, and those are all in pretty much perfect condition.  The rest I bought in yard sales/thrift stores as a kid so those have various degrees of label damage, but they all work.  Two controllers, but I believe the rubber grip has come off of one of them (I still have it, and was going to see if it's possible to take the controller apart & pop it back on).  All cables/hookups, and I want to say there's a coax adapter on it (going from those 2 metal prong screw-on things that if you weren't alive in the 80's you'd have no idea what they are to a standard coax "cable" connector). 

Again, I'll have to verify most of this, my mom brought me the works but I haven't had a chance to sit down & go through it yet.  Oh, and I have a ton of manuals too and even some of the old ads that came w/ the games, but no boxes.  I'm not looking to make a killing on it, I'm aware it's not made of gold.    I basically don't collect stuff that old so I'd like to see it go to a good home & maybe make a few bucks to put towards something I do want.   

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll get more details and start re-testing everything. 

EDIT:  OK, here are pics of the games.  Click on them for larger images.  Didn't have as many as I thought, but there are 10 in very good condition & 2 in poor condition.  All 10 of the "very good" ones also come with their manuals, and there are 2 Atari catalogs as well.  I also found some paddle controllers for Breakout/Tennis, but I haven't gone through the system yet.  A couple of the games have some "spotting" on the labels, the worst being Berserk so I took a close-up pic of it in particular.  Dunno what it is, my best guess is old age + glue is affecting the label.  Oh, and the 2 poor ones are Asteroids and Swordquest: Earthworld.

Video Game Database Discussion / Cover Scanning Tips

Anyone have any tips for getting a really good scan?  Right now I'm trying to scan in a PS3 cover that I can't find anywhere (Greatest Hits ver. of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection) and it's coming out kinda washed out looking with a bit of a moire on it.  Any advice/tips would be appreciated!

General / Gaming Pet Peeves

What are some little things games do that just drive you batty?  Here's a couple of mine:

1) Returning you to the main menu when you die.  Seriously?  You *want* me to quit your game?  Why make me wade back through a menu, often times the company logo, etc. just to reload my save?  Give me either a Continue option or put me at the load screen.

2) "All progress since your last checkpoint will be lost!" upon trying to quit.  This is the exact opposite, because it's like these people never want me to stop playing.  Look, I don't know when the last checkpoint was - that little save icon disappears pretty quickly and plus I'm not focused on it.  Why don't you do what bafflingly only a handful of games have done & tell me HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN SINCE MY LAST CHECKPOINT?     I'll also accept the "Save & Quit" option.

First buy of the month! 

Swung back by Gamestop today - I had spotted another cheap Wii game that looked interesting but I didn't know anything about so I decided to look into it first.  It's called Blast Works, and apparently it's some kind of "make your own shmup" game - looks really cool & was only $4.    Got another couple of cheap ones while I was there, plus spotted the Tekken Hybrid LE on a upper shelf marked at only $15.  Looked up its contents - a hardback artbook, a CGI movie on blu-ray (should be good for a laugh ) and a 2-cd soundtrack along with the game (TTT HD and what I'm guessing amounts to a demo of TTT2).  Sounded like $15 worth to me!

Marketplace / Skylanders Swap Force Wii U for PS4 trade?

This may be a long shot, but...

I recently picked up the Wii U / Skylanders Swap Force bundle because I got a good deal on it.  Was thinking of selling Skylanders, but it's not worth a ton so then I thought I might as well keep it - BUT, if I'm going to play it I'd much rather do so on the PS4, mainly for trophies.  From my understanding, the portal will work on any console (and I know the figures will, of course).  So my question is, does anyone happen to have the PS4 version & would be interested in trading just the game for the Wii U version?  My copy is new & unplayed, tho it is not shrinkwrapped because that's the way it came (packaged in with the system, the game itself had no shrinkwrap).

Modern Video Games / Top 5 Games You Want To Hear More About @ E3 2014

Last year's E3 was all about hardware, so this year's will be all about games!    List the top 5 you're hoping to find out more about at the show.  Two rules - only officially announced games (for example, I want to know what Level 5 is working on but since they haven't announced what it is, I'm not listing it ) and realistic games (no Shenmue 3 ).

• Final Fantasy XV (PS4)

There are other games I'm highly anticipating - Dragon Age Inquisition, Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3, to name a few - but I only like to learn so much about a game before I play it.  I know everything I want to know about those right now.  There are so many Wii U games on my list because those games are more of an unknown quantity.
