Classic Video Games / Re: Shmups on a budget

Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth

PS2

Mobile Light Force 2
Silpheed: The Lost Planet
Capcom Classics Collection 1 and 2
SNK Arcade Classic Volume 1
Castle Shikigami 2
R-Type Final
Raiden III
Taito Legends 2 (seriously!)
Sega Classics Collection

Wii

Castle of Shikigami III
Ultimate Shooting Collection
Blast Works (Quirky, but relatively fun)
Ocean Commander (So-so)
Saint (Very meh...)
Gradius Rebirth (WiiWare)
Star Soldier R (WiiWare)

There's some really good shmups for the NDS, too; Nanostray 1 and 2, Bangai-O Spirits, and Big Bang Mini come to mind.

Most of these are affordable, although some have gone up in price slightly. Of the whole list, I'd recommend Mobile Light Force 2, Castle Shikigami 2, and Silpheed: The Lost Planet, as they are quite cheap. Heck, R-Type Final for $15 is still a deal.

-Aero Fighters
-Axelay
-Darius Twin
-Gradius III
-R-Type III: Third Lightning
-Raiden Trad
-STG: Strike Gunner
-Super R-Type
-Thunder Spirits
-U.N. Squadron

Those are definitely some great shmups. AXELAY is love - been meaning to add it to my collection, but never find it at a right price.

Another one is Aero Fighters; I wish I could own it, but that's seemingly impossible. I remember renting it a lot back when Blockbuster was a thing.

Nintendo Power Advance Volume 1 - the dupe link holds seniority, but this one has all relevant info.
Dupe.

Nintendo Power Advance Volume 2 - same as above, although not sure which one is correct given I don't own this particular issue.
Dupe.

Kind of ironic.

Nintendo Power Presents Series 4: Samus (Metroid) - just as with the links above, the dupe holds seniority, but this one has all the info.
Dupe.

BUNCH OF NINTENDO POWERS! (unless I'm missing something...)

I'm looking for multi-volume collections that came in a slipcase to hold them.  For PS2 I've only seen sets of 3, like the GTA Trilogy.  But if there are collector's editions with 2 or 4 or more, I'd like to know about those too!

PS1

Arc the Lad Collection
Army Men Gold Collectors' Edition
Crash Bandicoot Collectors' Edition
Disney Interactive Collectors' Edition (A Bug's Life / Tarzan / Tigger's Honey Hunt)
Disney Interactive Collectors' Edition (The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure / Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue / Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour)
Electronic Arts Collectors' Edition (007: Racing / Medal of Honor / 007: Tomorrow Never Dies)
Electronic Arts Collectors' Edition (Sled Storm / Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit / NASCAR Rumble)
Electronic Arts Collectors' Edition (NBA Live 2002 / Madden 2002 / NASCAR Thunder 2002)
EIDOS Collector's Edition (Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain / Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver / Fighting Force)
Grand Theft Auto Collectors' Edition
Grand Theft Auto: The Director's Cut
Spyro Collectors' Edition
Tomb Raider Collectors' Edition

PS2

Grand Theft Auto Double Pack

I was bore so... That's all I can think of.

I'm not sure the Digital Devil Saga example would work. The first game was released in 2004. Along with the game and the soundtrack, you got a slip case that was meant for the first game its sequel. I think the sequel was released in 2005. So, while there is a slipcase involved, the games weren't released at the same time.

Both were released in 2005 - one in April, the other in October.

EDIT: Although I just realized you might live in Japan...

Only other two I can think of are:

ESA Foundation Compilation Set (SplashDown: Rides Gone Wild, ATV Offroad Fury 2, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2)
Naruto Ultimate Collection (Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 1 & 2, and Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles)

Other than the Need for Speed one mentioned above, I think these are all...not counting JP and PAL releases, of course.

EDIT: There's also Art of Fighting Anthology, which has all three games in the series. Sure, all in one disc and not exactly in a "collector's package", but a trilogy nonetheless.

Gotcha. Proper edits have been made.

"The Legacy of Kain series" is more of an identifier/label than a name per se. I understand where you're coming from, though, since I remember having the same reaction when I was adding them to my collection. Still, if you check, both of these games happen to have their names exactly as displayed here on their spines. I'm pretty certain that's what was chosen to follow. Places like GameFAQs and Wikipedia have them named the same for whatever that's worth.

Check the PS2 spines here for reference: Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver 2.

Video Game Database Discussion / Regarding Performance Release Type
« on: May 29, 2017, 05:27:07 pm »
I took the initiative of editing all of the Performance accessories that are currently in the database and changed their release type to "unofficial" given those products weren't sponsored, endorsed or approved by the companies they made accessories for.

As stated on the back of many of their products: "This product is not sponsored, endorsed or approved by [NAME OF GAME COMPANY]."

I'm certain there are many other instances of this in the database, but I decided to start with Performance first.

I didn't edit this particular entry because I'm quite unsure of it. I know there is a Performance Battery Pak for the Game Boy, though...

Of note, I also changed the publisher on many of the entries to "InterAct Accessories [Inc.]", which are the ones who developed/published all of the Performance products. And just to note, Performance is the name of the product line, not an actual company/developer/publisher.

Lastly, as soon as I can I will clean up these entries with more info and images.

Site Feedback / Re: Can the search bar be improved?
« on: May 29, 2017, 04:03:56 pm »
I've had to painstakingly add my stuff manually after trying to upload my SNES collection through a .csv file failed, so I have to side with Warmsignal: that search bar can be a flipping nuisance when it wants to.

The first time I used it I though that after clicking the icon the bar would stay "on", and I remember typing my game, looking back at the screen and seeing I was typing sweet nothings. Perhaps that or something akin to it could be implemented? Warmsignal's idea of ticking the box "off" when clicking outside of it is sound, too.

Hi there, new here, yada-yada...

I made some edits to some entries, and some stuff got rejected, which I'm not going to make a fuzz about, as I'm mostly here to keep tabs on my collection. However, for two of them I uploaded front covers given the current ones don't properly correlate with the actual product, and these were seemingly rejected as well.

Case and point being Warzone 2100, which has, what I believe an early cover.

Not the actual cover.

ACTUAL cover.

The same goes for Spyro Collectors' Collection, which, while technically has the "correct" cover, the current image is a placeholder commonly used online on Amazon and eBay to name examples.

Placeholder, not actual cover.

ACTUAL cover. Difference is small, but noteworthy.

By the way, the database has quite a number of duplicates. I made the common mistake of not copy+pasting the ones I came across, but here are some I just stumbled with:

Beyond Good and Evil dupe of Beyond Good & Evil
D.I.C.E.- DNA Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises dupe of DICE: DNA Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises
EDITED

And that would be all. See you around...maybe...
