I have to say thanks as well. I searched for a place like this for a while. I found some similar things for the UK community. But the North American retro collecting groups seemed to stick to themselves a lot more. But this site is exactly what I was looking for.

Gaming has always been a communal hobby. All of my favorite memories has been gaming with my friends. It's nice to have this community extension as I get older and get into more niche activities such as retro collecting.

Final Fantasy 3 on SNES for 5 bones!  I'm a winner.
Score!

I picked up a few games today but nothing that great :(
For the 360:
NHL 2K10 - finally I haven't seen one locally for about a year and a half
Dreamcast Collection - finally I haven't seen one locally for about a year
Pure Futbol - for 3 bucks
NBA Live 09 - $1.00
Open Season for my son for $2.00
Planet 51 for my son for 5.00 - another one we have been looking for

PSP: Taito Legends: Power Up - $2.00

Nice with the dreamcast collection. Don't make the mistake that most people do and skip sega Bass Fishing. If nothing else, the announcer makes it worth the price of admission... all the way from his opening pronunciation of "Say - guh"

45 Mario Paint

I know it's kind of a weird choice, but it's the best art-game I've ever seen. I keep hoping for a sequel, especially now with the Wii U game pad.

Not strange at all. I think it deserves to be on the list. Who knew that swatting flies could ever be so much fun?

Wow, I thought it would be weird if I created this topic. But yesterday I went out and bought a bunch of old NHL games in celebration.

For me there are three games that I love:
Ice Hockey (NES)
NHL 94 (Genesis)
NHL 12 (360)

I have not played NHL 13, but I imagine that it will take over NHL 12.

Go Avs.

They're numbers. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on.

I never noticed them until now. :P

Edit: sin2beta, he meant Kung Fu, not Yie Ar Kung Fu. ;)

Yep, I just noticed what I did as well.

I need someone to help me. You see, I can't read or speak Japanese.  I know this is a surprise to all of you since I am from Northern Arkansas.
You see I've wondered for years what the characters at the top of the screen on Kung Fu for the NES mean. Seriously, I've been playing the game for 25 years and still don't know.
I assume they are Japanese characters. They may just be jibberish put there because Americans are stupid. Someone throw me a bone.

If you are talking about the Kanji above, surprisingly enough, it means... kung fu.

Pokemon is always good.* So, I'm excited. I've only seen a little though. Red/blue is still one of my favorite games. And I do enjoy the new stuff as well.

* As long as you are not taking pictures, playing pinball, in a puzzle game, saying "Hey you, Pikachu!", or various other activities.

Hey, I like the Pokemon Pinball games!  And a lot of folks liked Pokemon Snap! :P

General / Re: What rules govern your collecting?

Since focusing my collection, I have lowered my standards and have been very happy.

No boxes for game carts - I used to spend so mush time looking for these and paying a premium. Recently I purchased a genesis and have acquired 31 games. All in all, I'm out about $40. This would have purchased a max of about 8 games in their cases. It's SO much hassle.

XBOX must have case, who cares about instructions This could change. It all depends on price. I don't think I have a real problem with buying a loose disk, a 99 cent sports game for a green case, and replacing the insert with a high-quality printing of a cover project insert.

Dreamcast is complete So few games and one of my favorite systems.

Saturn and Sega CD... Don't know... I haven't started these and that is because I am really tempted to try staying away from cases on these as well. I would just use the cover project on DVD cases. They stack better. And periodically I find someone selling a collection that were in a CD book. They can't sell 'em. So, they let good disks go really cheap. Plus, those giant sega jewel cases suck! But buying loose CDs seems sketchy.

To be honest, after seeing other collectors and my past experiences. I actively stay away from cases most of the time. CIB SNES collectors are insane and put collecting habits in perspective.  :P

Modern Video Games / Re: "HD Collections" / "Compilations"?!
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:33:34 pm »
I really like HD collections as well:

1) Brings down the price of absurdly expensive retro games.

2) Sometimes they are better. The 360 controller is very similar to a dreamcast controller, but it is better. I really enjoy playing DC games on an xbox.

3) Pumps money into a floundering company (sega) without having to do as many company-damaging sequels (sonic).
