... If that's how things are going to go across the board, I suspect I'll be sinking a lot of money into dead consoles ...

This is exactly what I'll be doing.  Obviously both companies will have to make their case to me, the consumer, before I make a concrete decision, but I'm willing to bet that the current generation of consoles is the end of the line for me.  I'll work on filling out libraries for systems I currently own, get older consoles/handhelds I don't own, and even snag a PS3 (once it drops in price) at some point for some of its gems as well.

I pretty much just throw everything up in these:

Look at that sexy organization!   :o

I just keep everything on bookcases, (mostly) organised by format. Give it a quick dust every now and then and I'm done!

Same here.  Everything is on shelves, organized by console/format and alphabetically.  I keep my handheld carts (GB/GBC/GBA) in a plastic container for now.

I should post pictures sometime...

Heh am I the oddball around here so simply doesnt get into shooters? I can stomach R-Type for a little while cause I think the piece that adds to the ship is neat ... but most other shooters I just cant play. Gradius and Life Force never really appealed to me. Most of the games you guys are talking about I cant even understand the name!

We're the silent majority.  :)

Count me in too.  I never got into schmups at all.

I feel kinda bad that I keep rambling about region stuff, so I figure a quick "hi!" is in probably in order.

My name's Erik, from Portland, Oregon. Ko1ru referred me here, since we had both been trying to find an alternative to sites like Listal, GameFAQs, etc, and after about an hour or mucking around, I started moving all my lists over here.

I started gaming somewhere around... 1985'ish or so, but probably wasn't a confirmed addict until I got the NES and SNES a couple years later. That eventually developed into a PC gaming addiction, and it's spiralled over the years with a PS1, PS2, and eventually a GameCube, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS3, Xbox 360, Dreamcast, DS, and... yeah. Too much, yet never enough! My apartment is practically wall-to-wall with games and movies these days, slowed only by a relatively small budget, and me being picky about the condition of used games. I also made the really stupid decision to sell the bulk of stuff I had as a kid when I was a teenager, so now I'm faced with replacing most of it. Strangely, I *did* keep my copy of Super Metroid, which still looks practically brand new, so at least there's that :)

Most of my collection is focused on Japanese games, especially JRPGs, bullet hell shooters, and 2D fighters, and I've slowly been moving into the sometimes frighteningly expensive world of imports, but I try to keep my tastes pretty open. You'll probably see a lot of frantic activity during weekdays, since I work in customer service, which basically means I spend most my day talking to jerks and browsing the web. It's open to debate whether the abuse is worth the slacker opportunities the job affords me.

Enough rambling for now. I should probably um... work or... something.

Yes, Erik is super awesome and I think he'll be a great contributor to the site.  :)

Sony trying to build hype inb4 Microsoft.   ::)

... I care less about the 720/Durango/whatever, I kinda feel it'll go more the "ad-filled media center with even more overpriced online" thing more than the 360, all powered by the Kinect and Windows Tablets...

This - plus an obvious leaning toward digital titles and the new "Smart Glass" feature - is exactly why I won't be buying the next gen Xbox console.  Nothing Microsoft could possibly announce (media and tech-wise) could convince me otherwise.  Perhaps I sound old and crotchety, but I'll stick with what I have, thank you.

I think I bought my copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army (complete) for about $40 at Vintage Stock this past year...  $80 on Ebay?  That's just insane.

^  This exactly
Bayonetta 2 might be enough to make me do it. Must... resist... >_<

This is the only other game I'd be interested in for WiiU.

I've been wondering the same thing for a little while now too... Thanks!  :)

I have Oblivion and Skyrim but havent gotten into them the way that I did Morrowind. That game single handedly cost me my previous relationship (and sadly because of it, my previous collection ... damn her).

Ouch.  So do you look upon Morrowind now with fondness or hatred?

My boyfriend would often joke about how he would lose me to Skyrim once it came out.  Funny thing is, he started playing it before me (I have yet to pick it up).  Luckily, he's slightly ADD with games and leaps from one to another in no time, so I'll likely play it soon.  :)

Oblivion

One of the greatest games ever created. The game is just so massively huge but with so much attention to detail at the same time. If you like games that drive you to explore, you will lose dozens upon dozens of hours in this game.

For me, it was more like hundreds upon hundreds...  :P

Do you like games like Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Hack or any other 1st person dungeon crawl? It's kinda similar. Only rather than mapping the dungeon on graph paper, you map the dungeon on the lower screen.

I always wondered about Etrian Odyssey...  I've never played any of them and have only heard the series' name from time to time, so I knew nothing about these games.  Now that you describe it, I'll have to seek some of these out!  Eye of the Beholder is my favourite game ever.  I have very fond memories of mapping out dungeons with my dad on graph paper (old school baby!) when I was a wee one.  :)
