I finished Sonic Mania and made a very important discovery: I don’t like Sonic games.  Even the old school ones.  The platforming is too slick and imprecise and while the levels look cool to speed through they are relatively unintuitive.  And I wanted to love it.

The Predator
Yeah, it was dumb as a sack of rocks, but I still generally enjoyed it.  The first half was actually pretty good, but the last third or so was a messy rush job.  The fate of at least one character still has me going "What the hell happened?!".  Definitely Shane Black's worst script, and the worst mainline Predator film - though its definitely better that AvP:R and probably better - at least more enjoyable - than AvP.

Jackie Brown
Easily QT's most low key movie - especially in the final resolution.  Great performances and soundtrack choices all around.  Makes me wish QT did a little bit more with regards to adapting other people's work, because Elmore Leonard was one of the greats in modern crime fiction.

Ash vs. Evil Dead - Season 3
And it's finally over - again.  Who would have thought 20 years ago that there would been an Evil Dead sequel series- and that it would be GOOD?  There were missteps along the way, like the hastily rewritten season 2 finale and shortchanging some characters at the end, but it was gory good fun from beginning to end.  Godspeed Ashley J. Williams.

Babylon 5: In the Beginning / Babylon 5: The Gathering
I watched the prequel movie and the pilot movie to gear up for a rewatch of Babylon 5.  It may not be as known as some other series, but it is one of my absolutely favorites - even if some aspects haven't aged great.  I was actually pretty shocked at how well The Gathering establishes the overall tone of the show, despite there being some major changes in cast and production choices in the year between it and the first episode proper.

Yeah... so I had a busy weekend.

I finished Halo 5: Guardians solo on Legendary.  The squad mechanic was probably equal parts a help and a nightmare.  Half the time I'd get taken down and request a heal and the AI team would just stand there next to me.  The other half the squad was the only reason I survived tough encounters.  Fix the AI and it might be tolerable.

The story was... not great?  I hate the idea that Cortana somehow survived the previous game.  I know Halo 4 gets a ton of crap, but the finale with Cortana's sacrifice was genuinely moving for anyone who had been playing since the first game.  5 retcons that ending immediately to tell the same "progenitor race" story that has been told a thousand times in sci-fi already (notably Mass Effect).  The Locke / Master Chief conflict seemed to resolve for no real reason.  A big ball-drop for the story as a whole.

General / Re: Do you prefer console or PC?
« on: September 11, 2018, 08:29:20 am »
I game on both, but by far console. I was a late bloomer to the PC, and the PC I did have growing up barley ran games that were two years old. Luckily that's not the case anymore and I enjoy playing PC exclusives, both old and new now. Still, I've gamed mostly on consoles my whole life and it's likely to stay that way.

This is pretty close to my experience as well - though I wasn't a late bloomer, I just only played a few specific games on the PC: WoW being the primary, along with some RTSs and God-likes.

Rather than investing in Manga you should really consider putting that money in the stock market.  I hear it can be a quite lucrative and sound investment.

And it doesn't have to be an immediate purchase: pre-orders work as well.  So, if you have a pre-order hanging out, you can cancel and re-place it to get the Destiny 2 copy.

Wow, I didn't realize we hadn't named the Metroid games yet...what's wrong with us?

Someone said Metroid Prime Trilogy as one of the first ones
Collections are kind of cheating, IMO.  It’s a pet peeve of mine, like people who say their favorite movie is Harry Potter

I disagree. My favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I would never tell someone that just The Fellowship or just Two Towers is my favorite movie, because you really can't have one without having all three.
This is actually my prime example, lol.  Each film in the trilogy was released a year apart.  Changes to each subsequent film were made based on criticism and reaction to the previous release.  They three movies tell a complete story, but they are most definitely three different films.  I would put Fellowship in my Top Ten films of all time, but wouldn't let The Two Towers close to the Top 100.

As far as this wii example goes metroid prime trilogy. two of the 3 games are originally on the cube so in that case i would agree that collections are not really a part of a consoles top 100. Cheating fits the bill in this case
This I agree with.  If there are games on the collection that were not originally released on the console in question, the collection makes sense, as it becomes "the way" to play those games on the console in question..

Oh, and speaking off...

Classic Video Games / Re: Do You Own a Dreamcast? What Game Drew You In?

I do.

There’s no one specific game that had me interested however.  It was a good price and I just snatched it up.

There are games on the console I enjoy, but no killer apps for me.

Video Game Deals, Sales and Promotions / [DEAD] Destiny 2 Free at Best Buy
« on: September 06, 2018, 09:53:32 am »
Right now, if you purchase a game for $29.99 or more from Best Buy they will throw in a copy of Destiny 2.

It automatically adds based on you chosen console for the first game, but still works if you manually add Destiny when buying a Switch title.

Super Mario RPG for sure.  I may have played a few others, but this was the first one to really engage me, and I had to see it through to the end.
