Site Feedback / Re: Game ratings
« on: January 31, 2012, 09:59:01 am »
@matt -- To your point, I think it would be cool to have a "favorites" flag instead of a ranking system. This seems to fit in better with the collection management idea; I'd like to see all my favorites together, for example. I might not want to see other users' rankings on my games list (because they may differ wildly from my own impressions of the games), but I might instead like to see how many users marked it as a "fave." Other users could see which games have the highest number of favorite flags, or they could even view the most frequently "faved" games within a certain genre or for a given platform. Everyone's going rank games differently based on personal gaming preferences and ranking philosophies (e.g., This game was well-made but I hate first-person shooters. Do I give it a 0? A 5? An 8?) But the idea of selecting "favorite" games seems more universal in my mind. Just my $0.02

Site Feedback / Re: Since I'm new here maybe I'm just missing it but....

For those who use the feature, does anyone adjust for inflation? I have game that were purchased 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years ago, so I wonder if the values would be skewed beyond recognition. I've thought about using it to enter current values instead; it might be handy if I start thinking about selling off parts of my collection or if I need to know the value should--heaven forbid--something happen to the games.

General / Re: Thrift Store finds
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:05:56 pm »
At a thrift store a while back, I found a few NES games that were new in box: Duck Hunt, Gyromite, Sky Kid, and Ikari Warriors. The boxes were a little worn, but it looked like the games had never been played. I think they were something like $2-$3 each... not too bad! Most thrift stores around here are way overpriced, though. When a Goodwill in my neighborhood gets cartridge games, they end up going in the auction case. Boo!

Off Topic / Re: Children of the 90s. (And 80s!!!)
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:22:33 pm »
Favorite 90s movie?  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
Favorite 90s cartoon?  Sailor Moon
Favorite 90s TV show?  Cartoons aside, the show I watched most in the 90s that started in the 90s was probably Seinfeld. (The pilot was in '89, but the first episode was in '90. Does that count?)
Favorite 90s band?  The Smashing Pumpkins
Clothing trend from the 90s? Bubble watches! Anyone else remember those?
Favorite game of the 90s?  Sonic the Hedgehog 2--it was the first console game that I ever owned. I remember one summer playing it over and over while listening to Sublime albums on repeat. I got to where I could pretty much beat the game in one sitting.

Awesome! Do I get a badge for that? =p
In addition to the beta badge, it looks like I'm missing an edit badge. No biggie, just letting you know in case it's helpful for fixes 'n stuff.

Did the beta badges go away? Mine seems to have vanished. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the badges--they're very cool :).

I noticed that there's C64 [EU] hardware, but it's not possible to add C64 [EU] games at the moment. Is that right? I have a few UK C64 games I'd like to add. Thanks much!

Yeah, you can check some of them out here: http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Konami/index.html. I especially like the Bull's Eye Barbecue Sauce handheld. (???)

I saw that there's a Tiger LCD section... how about a Konami LCD section? Konami handhelds made up my very first video games. Ugh, the memories. :D

I've got another console-related question. Sorry if this has been asked before; I looked around but couldn't find an answer in any of the other threads. How should I add/categorize a Brazilian console? I have an SMS Girl that I'd like to add as well as a Brazilian SMS game. Thx!

Awesome, thanks! Now that I've had some practice adding new items, I'll try adding the console and some additional games. And yeah, maybe someday soon I'll add my own NES carts, too! :D
