Snip

Oh the quote was because I was originally just reposting what you posted and I added in the edit after as a question to anyone reading it. My bad.

Thanks though, that makes sense.

No no no no and no. Final Fantasy has been dead to me from X-2/11 onwards, it's not Final Fantasy anymore. They forgot what made the games amazing and think all they have to do to make a good Final Fantasy game is make its characters as skinny and boring as possible and shove in a convoluted plot with no substance.
They were one of the first companies to arbitrarily decide out of nowhere that no-one likes turn-based/ATB combat anymore and their games have suffered for it. I used to be so distraught over FF's death but I don't even care anymore.
And the spinoffs are just insulting, everything they've done with FF7 has spat on everything that made it great and Dissidia proved they have no idea who their characters even are. The FF7 remake can suck my dick too, it's just gonna be another pool of saliva on FF7's grave.
Square was king, Square Enix is a shell of its former self.

FF 5-10 I'll always hold up as some of the best games ever but Persona is my Final Fantasy now.

Edit: Also I'll defend random encounters to my dying breath. They made it easier to enjoy the scenery rather than having it littered with big-ass monsters you have to focus all your attention on. Fight me everyone.

Im just going to punt you and be done with it.

Edit: I realise this is a dumb question but I'm not a homeowner and I've gotten insurance on anything before, what happens if you insure your games and they all get destroyed like this? Do you get a payout for them or something? How do they know what the value is when they're unidentifiable?

General / Re: Top 10 Anime Series/Movies
« on: September 26, 2018, 04:28:31 pm »
My top 10 series as my list is on Favslist at the mo:

1. Steins;Gate
2. Kokoro Connect
3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
4. Danganronpa 3
5. Angel Beats!
6. Hellsing Ultimate
7. Digimon Tamers
8. Fate/Stay night: Unlimited Blade Works
9. Deadman Wonderland
10. Death Note
And honourable mention to the English dub of Ghost Stories <3

I haven't seen as much anime as most anime fans as I'm really fussy and picky with what I like and don't like, but I'd say all 10 of these I do really really like.
As for films I've only seen a few, and the only one I really really liked was The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I need to watch some Ghibli someday, still haven't seen any.

Oh wow Seether, I had a sarcastic response prepared for your next thread but this is actually a decent thread. Good job.

I know exactly what you mean, recently it's been so hard to find games that have grabbed me the same way they used to, and I blame late 2013/early 2014 for that, I played a bunch of games in a row that are all now among my all-time favourites and it set the bar way, waay too high for everything since.

First I played Persona 3 which is now my joint-favourite game along with a childhood game, then I played Persona 4, then I played Virtue's Last Reward then later 999, then I played Danganronpa. Then later in that same year (I think?) Danganronpa 2 came out in English and I played that too. Since then games just haven't felt the same. There has been one game since then that's given me that same feeling though, just one, The House in Fata Morgana, but that's because it's a fuckin' masterpiece. Life's become a vain search for something as good as those games rather than just for games that are good in their own way.

General / Re: Does A Video Game's Cover Art Mean Anything To You? Or Not?
« on: September 24, 2018, 10:43:01 pm »
I've never bought into the "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover" thing. The cover gives you a first impression. It's the cover's job to illustrate you what the experience is all about with a still picture/logo. When you're browsing for a book, the book with the nicest-looking cover is going to be the one that stands out to you the most and so it'll be the first one you reach for to examine. If the illustration fails to express to you the mood of the book you'll be reading then it's a bad cover. Same goes for games.

So yeah, cover art is an important part of game production. When I'm browsing games there's lots and lots of games to look at, and the cover art that tells me "this is the sort of game you enjoy" will be the one I pick up and examine. If a game has a really nice boxart, then obviously the developer cares about its aesthetics. If the boxart is cobbled together and half-assed, then that's probably the developer's attitude towards the game. Even a simplistic cover with a plain background and logo can be a good cover, as long as it still gives off the 'feel' of the game. Obviously there are good games with bad covers and bad games with good covers, but that doesn't invalidate the point.

TL;DR: It's the cover's job to give me an impression of kind of game I'm going to be playing if I spend my money on it so it does matter if it wants to catch my attention.

Modern Video Games / Re: How important are graphics to you?
« on: September 24, 2018, 10:32:06 pm »
I'd love to say graphics don't matter at all to me but there is an extent to which that's true, if I don't know what I'm looking at it can be really hard to care about what's going on onscreen.
With more recent games it's less about how high the graphics quality is and more about how good it looks visually, like the style and whatnot, anything with modern technology can be made to look great in the right hands. With older games it's tricky, I grew up with the PS1 so I'm fine with PS1 graphics for the most part, but N64 and Saturn visuals have just aged too badly for me and it does impact a lot of the games for me. Though some Saturn games still manage to look gorgeous, like Panzer Dragoon. But that square-based rendering man, hasn't served it well as the years have gone by.

SNES graphics still look great to me, that look is ageless. With NES, erm... this is going to get me crucified, I know, but it since it was before my time the actual 8-bit aesthetic has never really been my thing. It's really hard for me to believe what I'm looking at is what it's supposed to be and it impacts the experience for me. Please don't hit me.

Yeah I saw that, I can't wait man. I haven't played Rondo of Blood as much as I have Dracula X but I'm sure I'll be able to get used to it. And I'll take any excuse to replay Symphony of the Night.

Seether. I'm giving you the talk.
You have 21 games. I've not noticed an increase in that number since you joined.
You clearly are not a collector.
All you've done since you've joined is spam the forum with inane threads that you obviously have no interest in, be they questions that you have no reason to ask or questions about 'retro games' when you don't own a single one, or recently threads about the stock exchange.
You barely ever even contribute to your own threads, you just leave a "?" or something half-assed in the body and then go on to post another thread that contributes nothing to the forum.

Why are you here?
