I can't get my copy of Castlevania Bloodlines to work, it shows the licensed by sega screen then it either is just a blank black screen or a blank red screen... all my other Genesis and 32X games work, any suggestions?  :-\

Classic Video Games / Re: Neo Geo CD
« on: March 06, 2015, 06:10:25 pm »
US Neo Geo CD systems are extremely rare, Far as I'm aware only the Model 2 version was released in the States. The best way to go is find a modded system with a region switch. I have one like this and I love it.
They might be a little more then a Japanese model 2 but will be cheaper then what people want for a US model.

To be honest, most games on the Neo Geo CD you really don't need translated. Most of the good ones are Fighting and Shooters. Looking through my collection the only ones that are hard to play are the Japanese only releases like Samurai Shodown RPG or the Quiz games and these will still be in Japanese on a US system.
If you find a Japanese Neo Geo CD at a good price, go for it.

Side note, like the AES, a US Neo Geo CD (or modded one) will play "most" Japanese games in English.

Sooooo I should look for a US one then? Because I do not know anything about modding and I don't know anyone who does mod.

So I've been vaguely looking at Neo Geo CD stuff of eBay. There is only Japanese stuff on there. I'm pretty sure the system is region free (correct me if I'm wrong). Should I get a Japanese console and look for American games? Should I just get Japanese games? Thoughts? The price range is a little high for me but that seems due to shipping from Japan.

I'm finding a ton of As-is consoles on eBay for prices I would pay for the actual console. I heard that if they don't power on its because it doesn't detect a game, not because it doesn't work right?

The only thing worse than paying a crAzy jacked eBay price for a console you know works is paying what you think is reasonable for a console that very well might not.

One case is a sure thing. The other is a gamble.

Or as Clint Eastwood would say...

Do you feel lucky?

Well, do ya?

Nope! I never feel lucky when gambling XD

That's SUPER scummy.  I'm much like Dashv, that I'm pretty reserved and not one to get mad, but I would've been pissed had they done that.    Best thing you can do is spread the word around about practices like that.  If that's what they do, it's likely they have other problems.  I mean, what were the prices on them? CIB stuff is usually a good bit more expensive than cart only items.  Did you think you were getting a good deal, so taking the games wasn't the worst that could happen, or did you basically pay boxed prices, just to get screwed over? I guess I shouldn't be thinking about that too much, neither one is some crazy expensive game, but I would've been sore about it lol A couple bucks difference is still a couple bucks.

The prices were good for box but I got ripped off for cart only prices!  :'(

That's what I thought! Even they gave my friend his money back when he and my girlfriend got me the same game for Christmas!  :o

I went to a store today planning on buying Dr. Robonik's Mean Bean Machine (which I already had) and Ecco the Dolphin for the Genesis. I decided I only want boxed Genesis games now so my duplicate purchase was because I THOUGHT I was buying a boxed game. This is what I wrote on the store's review page on Facebook.

I was very unsatisfied with their store policies. I bought two Sega Genesis games in the box with the manuals (so I thought) and when I checked out they took the cartridges out and put the boxes and manuals away after I paid them. I asked if they came with the boxes and manuals after and they said no, I said I'd rather not do the transaction then and the cashier said they can only do store credit so I said never mind then I'll just take the games. Just so everyone knows, they don't sell the boxes and they only give store credit back even if you haven't left the store.

Thanks, I just need to vent to other gamers who would maybe understand.  :'(

There's a system with all the hookups (with RF) for $150, the game Rayman (loose) for $70 both on Lukiegames.com, and I'd like to find a composite cable which seems to go for about $25. I just don't know if I want to take the plunge... I would love to have all of that but I wish I could get it all for a bit less than that...

That's awfully high IMO, especially for an item I can't see in person first.  If I saw the system in person, it was in fantastic condition with the box, manuals cables, controller, etc...I might drop $150 on it.  Might.  And that would be partially based on an impulse buy.  Sight unseen with no idea of the condition or if any original materials are with it (more than likely not)?  No way.  $70 for Rayman is absolutely ridiculous, especially a loose copy that's probably beat all to hell.

I've seen Jaguar's come through the local mom & pop shop occasionally and I think the most they asked for the system with a game was about $75.

If you are seriously wanting one, I would suggest advertising on your local Facebook Buy/Sell/Trade pages (they have them for just about everywhere).  Even if one is not listed on their, you can make a "listing" that you are looking for one.  You would be surprised at crap people have in their closets collecting dust that they would be more than happy to sell you for $20 or sometimes, even give it away to you.

If you are wanting it to sample the handful of decent games on the system, you can do better elsewhere.  The best game was Alien vs. Predator, and an enhanced version of that was released for the PC.  Rayman can be had for PC, PlayStation, Saturn, etc. for about $20 for a complete, great condition copy of at least a Greatest Hits version.

Those a great points and great advice. I'd look around and see if I can find a deal. Thank you!

So I've been wanting an Atari Jaguar super badly. I don't know why and the one game I want for it (Rayman), I can get cheaper on the Saturn or PSone. What is the price range I should expect for buying the console and the games? Is it worth it?

I personally open all of mine but nothing yet makes me feel like you absolutely have to open them. That may change with the new Mario Party 10 Amiibo mode but Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros., Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and Mario Kart 8 don't make me feel like it's required. Which is good for some people who don't want to even collect them in the first place.
