General / Re: Do you still prefer physical games or digital?
« on: April 01, 2026, 09:48:01 pm »
Physical-no question! I have been around since the Atari 2600 days and I started collecting the games and systems that were my favorites up to the Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox. When I was an avid gamer, we actually OWNED the stuff we bought! I've noticed that the video game industry and much of the other markets have been slowly turning from an ownership model to a subscription model. While digital, online and emulation have made games convenient, that have also controlled the games to the point that you no longer own what you buy. You buy a game, you may have to buy additional content to play it or make progress in the game. Customization, colors, items may cost you more. Upgrading to newer consoles may mean re-buying your game(s) again. No instruction manuals come with them, you have to go online if the manuals are available. You might have to download the game, constantly perform updates to correct bugs and fixes, possibly enable newer capabilities. The game you bought, kept updated, and played religiously, may eventually end up on a server that the company will shut it down. If you bought an Atari 2600 and a game for it in 1977, it's very possible- you can still play it in 2026!! Plus it had a manual, sometimes in color! You may need to clean the cartridge contacts with alcohol and a q-tip, but you could still play it! It was Yours!

I have  what I consider a rather large collection. When I bought a game that was part of a bundle, I would like to be able to search my collection by Purchase Date, ie., March, 03,2015, in able to identify all games that were a part of the bundle. I usually didn't name all the games involved, just "a part of 3-game bundle", etc. Are we able to search our collections, and if so, by what criteria?  Thanks for your attention.

I'm currently reading book 3 in the Brian Bagnall trilogy about the Commodore computer company.  I'm curious if these type of books are appropriate for inclusion in the "Merchandise/Books" category? For a brief period, Commodore ruled the computer video game period, primarily during the Commodore 64 era. The books were titled, "Commodore: A Company on the Edge", "Commodore: The Amiga Years" and "Commodore" The Final Years". In my opinion, Commodore was nothing if not a games company. What is your advice?

Off Topic / New Retro Gamer Mags Stopped?
« on: February 22, 2024, 10:19:59 pm »
Have new submissions to the Merchandise/Magazines category been stopped? I have been trying to add Retro Gamer Magazine Load 254 to the magazine category and have been unsuccessful. Can you explain why?

Off Topic / Re: Retro Gamer Magazine

I have several copies of Retro Gamer magazine and am considering adding them to VGC however, they are oversized at 9" wide x 11-5/8" high.
My inkjet printer can handle the length but cyts off about 1/4" of the width.  Would these images be OK to submit for new magazines?  Also, since they're currently list as "Retro Gamer # 23, 235, etc., they are not in consecutive order and if the current list is expanded quite a bit it would be difficult to find if certain issues are listed.  I would like to suggest additional entries to these magazines be listed by 3-digit numbers, preceded by zeroes for earlier issues, such as "Issue # 001, 037, 235, etc." The ones I get my Retro Gamer magazines at our local Barnes and Noble and they are made in the UK.  They don't show "Issue" numbers on the monthly magazines, only "Load" numbers. I assume these "Load" numbers can be interpreted as "Issue" numbers. I have approximately 20 issues, including some 'Annual' and special editions.  I just love them for their colorful artwork and great nostalgia-filled articles.  Please advise when possible and if you agree to the listing suggestions above for numbering and using Load numbers as Issue numbers, or have other recommendations, I'll start adding mine to your collection. Thanks for your attention.

There is already an accessory "Pelican Arcade Fighter Stick" listed for PS2 and it appears to be the same thing I have except it's in a sealed package and it's a different color. The one I have is yellow and has multiple connectors for Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. If it is a 'universal' controller, is there a category for 'Universal Accessories' or should it be listed as an accessory controller to each system it's designed for?

Your database lists a PS2 Jampack demo Winter 2002, but I bought one today that is also a Winter 2002 edition but it's different from the one listed.  The front and back covers differ slightly, as well as the bar code and item numbers.  The ERSB rating on the front cover is RP-T (Rating Pending to Teen) whereas the one already listed is "RP-M".  I would like to add this 'Jampack' but I don't know how to list this one differently from the one already in your database.  Any suggestions?

Classic Video Games / Re: Haunting Ground manual?
« on: February 24, 2016, 08:42:30 pm »
You can download one at www.replacementdocs.com.  At the top left corner 'Main Menu' click on "Download Manuals".  Under "Platforms", click on "Playstation 2".  The first alphabetical listing of PS2 games appears.  Go underneath this box and put "12" on the "go to page" number.  You'll see 'Haunting Ground' listed above.  Download and Print it if this helps 'til you can find a manual.
