General / Re: Why do people hate on the N64?
« on: January 02, 2015, 03:26:54 pm »
Just personal here, but This was the 1st Nintendo system I had bought with HUGE expectations in what they could do in the RPG genre.  I think we all know how that turned out.  I still have mine, but I've played it, oh, maybe 10 times its entire life.  It's still in the box I bought it in, forever, futilely awaiting a title worth playing.  Don't get me wrong, it had SOME gems. But not enough to keep it from the hate crowd.  I remember Goldeneye parties at friends houses many days, and have a huge love of Conker's BFD.  But sadly, the only other game I honestly ever wanted for the system, that to this day I still have never even played, is Blast Corps.  This was the system that broke my trust in the Nintendo brand, and was the last system I bought Day 1.  After that I simply refused to be a Day 1 fanboy and run out to have the newest and latest.  They got back some of my love with the Gamecube as it DID have some outright amazing games though.  But then the Wii came out... I STILL don't have a Wii in my dedicated collection. My kid got one from the grandparents, and it's probably used less than the N64 was.  The disappointment with Nintendo in general that comes from me saddens me to this day.  I was in middle school when the NES came out and thought that Nintendo could do no wrong, and that was even with some of the horrid crap that got shoveled onto the NES :-).  Although, I don't have any total hate for Nintendo. I absolutely ADORE my 3DSXL and play the hell out of it.  I relish taking it out in public to get both street passes and passes for games I have on it that welcome other people to help (aka Fire Emblem, Bravely Default).  But I digress.  The N64 will forever burn in the back hell of my memories.  I hear so many people that say they grew up with the N64 as their first Nintendo console and loved it and I weep for them. They just do NOT know how crapped on they were.  When they lost Squaresoft I think it really did some damage to them as well.  Sony has been annihilating them in the console wars ever since.  Still, good subject.  Thanks for the post.

Thank you all, especially Mr. Scott.  That is a LOT of collections.  Makes me happy to be in a proud minority here :-).  Also that mostly everyone here IS friendly.  I'm 40 and quite frankly, half the detritus I see (mostly) younger folks putting up on the internet is just rude in it's basest form.  I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I know how to be polite!  No point in discussing something you are passionate about if it's going to decay into bile filled, vomit laden, hate speech.  There is enough of that in the world at large :-(.  Can't we all just get along (LOL)?  Still, It's awesome to have a small but tight community of gamers that take their stuff seriously.  Sad that I found something this awesome so late in my collecting, when I'm to the point of contemplating selling the lot of it since life and circumstances have left me in a bad way and taking care of my child without the mother. But still, hopefully things will get better so I can leave my collection to my kid and my best friend as I had planned in the first place!  Thanks again everyone for all the help and positive chats. It's nice to see some NORMAL (really? normal? LOL) people that can talk like they have a modicum of intelligence wedged between their ears! :-)

P.S. Canadian rocks. Some of the most awesome folks I've met were Canadian. A LOT nicer than many locals I know LOL.

AHHHH. That explains a lot.  I have the older Dreamcast version!  Oh well. Too tired to worry about it right now. Hopefully I'll remember tomorrow. I still have to dig my game soundtracks/swag out of storage to get them on here.  Whew!

Ahhh. Just finished posting my stuff.  Well, except for misc swag and accessories that I'd have to dig through to find everything. The MAIN part of my collection is DONE!  YAY!  I can halfway relax now... until any of the admins request info/pics/etc from me.  If they do I'll certainly try to get the info/pics/etc to put up here as time permits.  I still don't get the whole *private* thing. Who cares who sees your collection?  Just don't be telling everyone you live in the Bronx and your collection should be safe! LOL.  I personally love seeing how many others have the same games and stuff I do. Makes me happy to know I'm not the only one that enjoys certain things :-D.  Although now the challenge is building up, and knocking out a good Wish List!

So, this would probably be an Admin question: any clue how many people currently have their lifeblood listed on here?  I notice when I add an item to my collection it tells me how many other people have the same item.  Made me curious just how many people have their collections on this site currently.  It would be cool to know just how rare some of my collection might be if only a handful of others had the same item.  Ex: how many hundreds of people have Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt as opposed to Panzer Dragoon Saga?  Thanks!

Video Game Database Discussion / Different Strat Guide Covers?
« on: October 31, 2014, 12:43:50 pm »
Ok, I'm almost done entering my strategy guides when I run into Grandia II's Official Perfect Guide by Versus books. The one listed has a completely different cover on it than the one I have, and I have found pics of both doing an image search.  So the question is: do I just add the guide with the wrong pic to my collection, add the pic of this one to the current listing, or go ahead and make a completely new listing?  Thanks for the help folks!

P.S. I was going to go by the UPC of 071486028192 but there is no upc listing for the guide. AND...
The ISBN number for the guide I had was 0-9706468-0-1 which didn't match the number listed on the listing.

And just a random thanks to all the others who took the time to offer up suggestions/comments/help to me.  It's appreciated :-).  I'll do my best to try to keep things more along the guidelines in the future.  Thank God I only have a handful of things left to put in. Just another 50-100 guides and I should be done. The rest of my collection is in.  BUT... (I put a big but and I cannot lie), Should I bother putting in random VG related junk/swag/"wtf is this anyway" on this site? Or just stick with actual games and guides?  Example: I have some weird sport ball shaped Dreamcast memory cards and lord knows how many posters, wall scrolls, standees, promo items, etc.  It would certainly take longer to get them on here, but if there is a need/want for such items I'm all for it. Thank again everyone :-).

Hello fellow gamer folks.  I've been adding my collection as time permits, but I've found quite a bit that is NOT listed, so I've been taking pics with my phone and adding them as I see them.  Is there a limit to how much I upload?  Are there guidelines to what/how much I can edit?  I don't want to be happily posting all kinds of new content (mostly old strategy guides), and end up getting bludgeoned by a ban hammer!  On that note, if any of the admins wish me to add additional info they think I can provide (pics, barcodes, whatever), feel free to ask and I'll do what I can as time permits  ;D.  Thanks again for the amazing site to whoever keeps it rocking.  I can't wait to see where it ends up as more is done to it!!!

Hi and Welcome

I'm not a moderator or admin of any kind that's affiliated with this, just a member like yourself, adding the stuff that is missing to the database. But i saw yesterday that you added (at least) 2 games with cell phone pictures to the databse. These were already in the databse

==============
Oracle of Seasons

http://vgcollect.com/item/5249 (old & CORRECT) ----> http://vgcollect.com/item/70408 (new & DOUBLE)

Oracle of Ages

http://vgcollect.com/item/5248 (old & CORRECT) ----> http://vgcollect.com/item/70407 (new & DOUBLE)
=============

I think it's better to check with the seacrh function whether your new entries are already actually in the databse before adding them as new. Had that on first hand experience. No worries about a ban or loosing those entries (they just get merged to the older one)

Apologies once again.  I was shocked that I couldn't find those 2 titles when I entered them.  Sorry for the mix up.  I've had mostly good luck using the search engine on here, but for some reason I had trouble finding those. But you live and learn :-).  I know better for next time! Thanks!!!

Hey bud, welcome to the site.  Thanks for posting all the new entry's.. it's very appreciated by all the other members.  I find that the site is still missing quite a few strategy guides.  I can save you some time and effort though... when you go to submit a new entry, try first going to google images for a picture of your strategy guide.  9 times out of 10 you can find a really nice looking picture.

thanks again,
Retro

I didn't even think of this until after I had posted all that I did. Sorry about that :-(.  I'll look up pics for the rest. Gotta love the internets, you can find pics of anything.... just be careful you don't burn your retinas in the process!

I could very well be missing it since I'm new here, but is there a way to look at other peoples collections?  My IRL friend has an account on here too and wanted me to see it.
