Modern Video Games / Re: Advice on Donkey Kong Country Returns
« on: October 31, 2023, 12:58:51 pm »
Can confirm that there is a pretty significant difficulty ramp in the games, especially in Tropical Freeze. If you don't bother with the collectables, most of the levels are manageable but then you're losing out on most of the content. I can see the Bosses be where most people get stuck. I spent hours on the final boss of Tropical Freeze.

I wouldn't say that the difficulty is unfair but the physics take getting used to and a lot of the deaths come from not knowing what obstacle to expect which I'm personally not a fan of. That's nothing new to the overall DK series, but with these levels being much longer than the SNES, it does feel more punishing.

If you have a switch, I'd go with that version of Tropical Freeze. They added in Funky Kong as a playable character to serve as an easy mode, which seems more manageable. Sure it may not be as gratifying as master a level but at least you get to appreciate the level design and music

Recently quit my job to study Japanese full-time with plans to take the top level proficiency test at the end of next year. I'll probably do something part time next year but i'm working towards a career in localization/translation/interpreting, hopefully with the Nintendo Treehouse^^

Oo, exciting! Good luck!

Thanks a lot! 一所懸命頑張る!

Video Game Deals, Sales and Promotions / Meijer Father's Day Sale
« on: June 12, 2016, 06:28:24 pm »
For those near a Meijer, I'd recommend running over because they've got a buy 1 get 1 40% sale on all games. Despite just being released on friday, I picked up Kirby Planet Robobot along with three other 3ds games (FE:B&C & Paper Jam) and got $32 off, which is nearly a free game! It seems to apply to all systems, so if you've been holding out on a few titles, now might be a good time to pick them up!

Marketplace / Re: FOR SALE: [RARE] US Hagane Cartridge (complete)
« on: June 05, 2015, 10:47:07 pm »
People are currently bidding $200+ on the box alone....this is getting so ridiculous!

When a post begins with "I recently discovered...", I know I'm not dealing with someone who has a passion for the hobby, but purely an opportunist or hoarder.

I bought a legit copy of Hagane for $14 from a dealer not but 5 years ago and was just excited to just see it. I was unaware of its supposed "rarity" or "worth" and was just pleased that I could own and play the game. It's fantastic but in my opinion fails in comparison to some of the Shinobi titles. The power ups and weapons are cooler though haha!

If I did ever decide to sell it, I will find a seller who truly wants it and sell it for $14 as well or whatever the buyer deems fair. While I do use ebay on occasion, I know with certainty that I ever put it on there, it would not be going to someone who truly wanted it and I'd probably see it on there the next day with a huge mark up.

The most I've ever spent on a used game was around $65 on a copy of Suikoden 2 about 3 years ago and personally I did not care for it. I saw that most people were selling it for double that price, and while it still may not be "worth" $65, I sold it for the price I bought it for.

Looking through the comments, I'm glad to see this forum is filled with honest collectors and people who are legitimately interested in keeping the hobby alive!  ;D

General / Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Game Soundtracks
« on: June 05, 2015, 10:20:01 pm »
While I cheated one because I couldn't settle, I would say that these would be mine top ten in no particular order. Ironically only two of the composers on this list would probably be in my top 10 VG composers  ;D.

Capcom 2D Fighters (Street Fighter series, Vampire series, etc.)
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Shovel Knight
Snatcher
Sonic Adventure 2
Wild Arms
