Just thought I'd see if any one else is out there for calculating what a game collection is worth versus how much you paid for it?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, exactly.

But if I averaged every price I paid in the past 8 years my best guess is something like $8 a game, and that may be a little generous. So having 1680-some, that would put me at almost $13,500 spent. What's it's worth? To me, $13,500. To someone else, I have no idea.

You will probably see a "value" in a range form. ie $4-$15. There would be a minimum value. But you raised a good point, if you paid $13 500 then it is worth $13 500 to you... I was getting at what the masses value items at or possibly appraisers.

I'm halfway in calculating, just recently finished noting all my games prices i bought them for. The question is in how you calculate what it is worth (per game). Which sources you use? Bare in mind, European guy talking here.

I assume you declare physical games which uses steam codes, origin activation codes and Uplay Ubisoft codes  null & void after you use the activation codes?

That's the problem too.. sources for game value (especially older ones) will vary but should still be in same general ball park.

I don't deal with codes or anything. I only collect cartridge games. Just plug and play!

I guess ones you use a code for a game it becomes yours forever.. so there wouldn't be any need for a game value. Maybe (game value)=(purchase price)?

I was only born in 1986, so SNES would have been right in my prime. I got a SNES in the beginning of the 90s and Super Mario World was the first.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja for SNES. This game was a 90s Christmas present and I beat it during 2015 xmas holidays. Quite pleased with myself. lol

Does anyone know where to find rubber/plastic SNES action figures (the more hard to find ones if they even exist)?

I'm looking for legend of the mystical ninja figures. Is ebay my best bet?

when your collection takes over an entire room is a good way to tell your a serious collector lol

It don't matter if you collect loose or Complete.
If you have love and passion in your hobby and love not only the games, but the art, the history and the hunt for adding new games to your collection. Then in my books your a serious collector.

Every collector is different. Some only collect one brand. Like only Nintendo or Sega. Others only want to collect what they think they want to play. Some are anal retentive and must have all their games brand new in the box sometimes sealed. While others just want a copy of the game to play and it could be loose and look like crap.

To me a serious collector just has to have a love of what they collect, they don't care if it is worth $1 or $1000, to a serous collector its not about what is valuable its about what they love. If anyone here is collecting video games as a investment your in it for the wrong reasons. Most collectors I know are about the hunt for deals and not paying stupid prices, its part of the fun trying to get deals. I love garage sales not just for the deals but because I never know what I'll find and bring home. Its part of the fun.

Everyone on this forum is a serious collector of some kind, you wouldn't be cataloging your collection and wanting to talk to others who enjoy your passion if you weren't. While there's different levels of collector's, we are all serious in our love for old and new games. 

I agree. It's all about the joy of the hunt. The numbers will come if you continue to search and grow your collection. You're serious when you go out of your way (garage sale, flea market, ebay) to find a new gem to add to the collection.

At what point do you think someone has a serious game collection when it comes to a single system?

Lets say someone has a super nintendo and collects games and memorabilia. At what point is a collection serious...100, 200, 300 or 400+ games and a couple action figures?
