Modern Video Games / Re: Nintendo Labo Discussion.
« on: January 20, 2018, 01:55:02 pm »
Just watched the video, and I think it looks fun. I have kids and they would love to work with something like this. It is definitely in the 7-10 year age range. It looks like Nintendo is building off the success of the Makey-Makey product. I love that it shows how the cardboard creations integrate with the game. I do see a couple of potential problems. First, I agree that kids will tear that cardboard up quickly, and some lower priced cardboard replacements would be a good idea. Next, I think that the age range will be a little tricky. Children have to be old enough to put the cardboard items together, but young enough so that they won't get bored with the game too quickly. If the assembly process requires too much parent supervision, parents will be less excited about the product. Last, I don't know how much of a money maker this will be. Not only does play to a certain age range, but it is also a specific type of kid that is interested in making these things. I have purchased the Makey-Makey product and some kids got over it right away, and some are still playing with it right now. I think that potential market is really small.

I think that it is great that they made this product. Nintendo usually wins when they gamble on stuff like this, which means we usually win. But I fear this product will live in the same realm as gyromite and virtual boy.

I think this is a really interesting topic. I don't know who has a problem with this thread, but if you have a problem with it just don't reply. Having said that, I think that most people have similar thoughts to buying games. You have your standard price range, and will go higher for the stuff you REALLY want. I am a fan of the $20 and under range, but I am looking to add Chrono Trigger and Earthbound to my collection so I am going to go higher to get those. Fortunately, I am more interested in functionality than aesthetics or resale value. As long as the cartridge isn't beat to shreds, or has no label and works, I will buy it.

General / Re: Will Nintendo Switch pass PS4/XB1 or will it fall short?
« on: September 29, 2017, 01:22:02 pm »
I don't see why anyone other than Ninty diehards would care about the Switch at this point, or ever. Heck, I love Nintendo and my enthusiasm for actually getting one is almost non-existent.

Being that Sony is seemingly bowing out of the handheld space, Nintendo has the entire handheld market and soon there won't even be a prominent 3DS push, just the Switch.  It might not have the power of the other consoles, but the handheld part is pretty significant especially if they can continue to get better third part support like they have with Bethesda.

The Problem with relying on the handheld space is that, it is getting squeezed with by the iphone and Android markets. I have  a feeling that unless you can make phone calls from your switch it will have a hard time surviving in the long run.

Classic Video Games / Re: Anyone going for a complete set?
« on: September 29, 2017, 01:16:44 pm »
I have found it hard to go for complete sets. It takes up too much space. I have taken a different approach. I like to have roughly 1 of each console, then I go for sets of titles. Right now I am working on getting all the zelda games (including crossbow hunter). This way I get the satisfaction of completing a set without getting loaded down with games I will NEVER play.

I am also working on getting complete sets of:

Mortal Kombat
Starwars
Streetfighter
