General / Re: I have a PS4, XB1, Switch and PC - but ...

I think in future I just want to be in just one (or very predominantly in just one) eco-system.

Why?

Where do you think my investment should be going forward?

What's your budget?

:)

General / Re: How much do you like game instruction manuals?
« on: June 24, 2018, 08:43:27 pm »
I used to hate the concept of manual, but since we are already here with tons of manuals around us I develeoped a weird fascination with the physicality of a manual.

I find inriguing how companies hire an extra guy or even a company to come up with manuals. Sometimes they are garbage sometimes they are works of art, but every time I want to check out what a manual for specific game looks like. From the design standpoint that is. It's impossible for me to focus on a manual and read one from start to finish, but sometimes it's so much fun. My favorite from my recent acquisitions is Metal Gear 4 for PS3 - has comic strips explaining game mechanics, beautifully designed and funny.

Another scenario is - you simply can't play without a manual.  I'm currently playing King of Dragon Pass and without a manual you are nothing in this game.

It's very visible what game publishers themselves think about manuals. Whether they think manuals are another outlet for creativity or just an annoying necessity.

Both. Games are games, they are what they are. Age doesn't matter.

I'm more concerned with time investments than age of a game. Too many games too little time.

Looking for Frogger 3D for Nintendo 3DS (USA) bundled with clear 3DS case CIB. Doesn't matter if used.

General / Re: Isn't video game collecting kinda just hoarding?
« on: May 15, 2018, 07:32:52 am »
Everyone's different. I don't think collecting is hoarding. I like minimalism and I also collect. I enjoy hunting for games, curating, but I don't like displaying. I rent storage which is super useful not only to me but for the whole family. It's not very expensive to rent a  2x3x3 meter cell.

When I want to enjoy a system or some weird subset of my personal gaming history - I drive to storage, take what I want from my "hoardings", take it home, have fun with it (even if it's just fondling with boxes and manuals) and drive it back to storage when I'm finished playing/fondling. Idk, this approach doesn't sound like hoarding to me. Your opinion might differ.

Just my 2 cents.

Finished 2 games I couldn't beat for years: Chaos Engine (played this game for the first time around 25 years ago), Faster Than Light. Both are excellent games, very different and very good in their own way. Both crazy hard too.

General / Re: Whats the point of collecting sealed games?
« on: May 03, 2018, 11:01:43 pm »
What if you keep a video game sealed for years and years. and whoever opens that game finds no game in the box or sealed case?

Or in my case a defective PS1 disc that is bent from the factory

What did you ended up doing with the box and the disc?

I threw it out and now I feel sorry for it. It was a copy of Ford Racing for PlayStation 1. the CD was thicker then usual and the CD was slightly bent to the point that my PS2 slim could not
spin the disc. But I always could have tried it in a PS2 phat model but I never did.

Yeah. I usually tuck these in storage. Sometimes you can find a disc for dirt cheap online or in thrift stores. A lot of people are looking for box and manual too so you can trade.. With regards to PS1 disc there are also Bleem discs floating around (I have one) and with bleem you have a much wider variety of CD drives you can try to read bad CDs.

Thought 1:

It's not that hard to seal a game really. I have some sealed games I'll probably never open but all of them I obtained for less than they costed at retail when new so I don't care if the seal is a fake.

Thought 2:
I collect for the thrill of hunt and the thrill of completing. "Gotta catch them all" as they say. When I buy games, play them and put them on a shelf I can't call it "my collection", it's "my havetion". On the other hand when I want all jak and daxter games - now that's a collection started for me. And guess what some of them jak and daxter games can be universally recognised as shitty and are dirt cheap sealed - I'll keep them sealed, who cares. Collecting games is a game in itself.

My opinion is that you define what collection is and you stick to it. If someone convinces you there's is a collecting court and you'll be judged for not collecting properly - this is bullshit to me. Not sure what other guys are thinking about it either.

Found it. I could swear it was not here a couple days ago. Close topic please.

Site Feedback / PlayStation Portable [AU] is missing from the database
« on: April 17, 2018, 10:11:21 pm »
Please add PlayStation Portable [AU]. There are quite a lot of these. They have a distinct Australian rating print on UMDs and front cover, but manuals are shared with EU (on 3 games I have, not sure if all of them do).

Still get an error related to this conversion. Sorry I post here and not in github issues. Probably I should create a dummy github account and post to hobby projects there so my colleagues don't read my vg collecting adventures :).

Thanks tripredacus and metshael this approach is much better. I never bothered going to the browse section since it's not very self-explanatory. Makes sense and makes this site much more useful when you add stuff via browse.
