Site Feedback / Re: VGCollect redirects to unintended pages
« on: January 05, 2025, 09:43:15 am »
Apologies for not responding for some time. I have attempted multiple tests since last post and have collected system information. The problem i described still persists.

Error testing measures:

- Cleared cookies and cache from my browser (Opera GX) and attempted again. Problem persists.
- Attempted using the site on the original machine showing the problem (opera GX), plus an additional win7 laptop (Chrome Browser) and the site from an android mobile device (chrome browser). All machines and devices exhibit the same error on my VGCollect account.
- Attempted using multiple different browsers, both chromium and non on the original machine that showed symptoms. Problem persists in Edge, Chrome, Opera GX, and Firefox.

Firefox was unique in that upon failing to send my browser to the intended page and landing me on the activity feed or login screen like the others, firefox instead lands on its own 'problem loading page' screen after attempting to load the page for a short period of time.

Problem loading page screen contents:
'The page isnt redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.'

The specifications of the machine i am using is detailed here:

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (10.0, Build 19045)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
System Model: ROG G703GX_G703GX
BIOS: G703GX.304
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.9GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.9GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
Page File: 39927MB used, 29623MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
        Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

User Agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/130.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 OPR/115.0.0.0

I am new to web diagnostics so there is likely a bunch of information missing. please let me know what to collect and i will do my best to gather it

Thanks

Site Feedback / VGCollect redirects to unintended pages
« on: June 10, 2024, 03:54:18 am »
Im having this weird issue with the site where clicking on any link on the the site redirects me to either my activity feed or back to the previous page. It is very frustrating trying to add games to my collection as when submitting a search for a game name and system my search is ignored and i get booted to the activity feed over and over. It also happens with other pages on the site as if clicking links is working like the browser back button. after logging in and pressing a link on the activity feed ill get booted back to the login screen, and my login has expired if i hit back in my browser to return to the activity feed. i have tried this on opera gx and chrome and both share this issue. it doesnt appear at all in any of my other frequently visited sites, just VGCollect.

Im personally loving collecting for the PS3 at the moment. A combination of copies of games being plentiful and easy to source (even some rarer or more niche titles), inexpensive and normally in really good condition due to being printed on blu-rays makes collecting for the thing incredibly easy and satisfying. A good amount of games can still be purchased new from online retailers if you know where to look. PS4 will do the same in the future, though since the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games time will tell if games will become inexpensive to the extent that PS3 games have.

General / Re: The state of your local flea market(s)

I live in a rural area in Aus and we had a monthly market that was pretty good for uncommon games many year ago. Now its all dried up and the vendors there only sell household goods and plants and the like. Since moving to a city area the place i have the most success is actually at cons. Its pretty common i come across stalls selling older ps2 era titles for reasonable prices, and more rarely 64 and earlier titles (for closer to retail).

The last con i went to actually had a stall dealing in very old collectors editions and merch, and i managed to pick up a Hatsune Miku Project Diva arcade controller for half retail. Had a good chat to the owner and he was apparently a fan and had bought two, and just wanted to move the other. Thats the thing i like most about buying older games - talking to the sellers and getting to hear about their gaming passion. Its super fun to geek out over classic titles, haha
