General / Re: Going For Quantity Or Quality In Games

Quantity only for systems I'm the most passionate about (PS2, PS1, Wii). For everything else only things I'll want to play (good or bad) or any other valuable finds in the wild.

If by worst you mean had the worst time with it, one stand out is Automobili Lamborghini for N64. Renting a bad game was inevitable back then when you're just looking at game covers, but this one always stuck out. Me and my brother could not for the life of us make the first turn on the first track in the game. We were stunned by how bad it controlled, and it was a running joke between us for years, the setting of the bad game bar for us ("That game wasn't as bad as Lamborghini", etc.).

And on the topic of racing games, Sonic Riders. I got it thinking it would be Mario Kart-like, but instead it's an incredibly technical and complicated racing game with a steep learning curve and brutal AI. I never could get into it when I frequently took last place and just gave up on it. I bought the sequel on Wii a few years later out of curiosity, but the disc I got was defective and wouldn't go past the title screen. I just took that as a blessing in disguise.

People seem to give Chameleon Twist 2 a lot of flack for being slippery to control and having uninspired level design, but it's fun, colorful and has a great soundtrack and mechanic I haven't seen done in any other platformers.

I don't know what the general consensus is, but I remember seeing Somecallmejohnny review Billy Hatcher and basically obliterate it, and I was just blown away. It's one of my favorite Gamecube games period. And speaking of Sega on Gamecube, Sonic Heroes was fine. Its only crime is not feeling like a Sonic game (and awful voice acting).

As a kid, I would have been torn between Wolfenstein 3D and Goldeneye 007.

Lately, I have to say either Borderlands 1 or 3. There's something about the open world-ish RPG style that really appeals to me, and now "regular" FPSes feel incomplete to me without it. I remember playing 007 Nightfire on the Gamecube a few months ago, and I ran up to an enemy and got almost killed. It then occured to me that it was because I was trying to press in the C-Stick to melee them.  :P

My favorite for a long time has been the PS2 because games have been pretty easy to find in the wild. However, more recently I've been able to find just as many if not more OG XBox games out and about and I finally caved and began to build a collection for it. It helps that collector interest in it seems to be pretty low right now (as long as your game is not called Steel Batallion) so most things are not super expensive.

Least favorite for me personally would be Switch. I think almost every Switch game has either a collector's edition or limited physical release. Even no-name budget titles have them sometimes. The thought of tracking them all down and finding a place for them made me decide I was only going to hold onto Switch games I really like.

A complete PS2 collection?  That’s a big undertaking!  What biggies have you knocked off already?

I know it is, but I guess that's part of the fun of it. And every game is attainable (except that Silent Hill 2 Pack). I'm about 400 games deep so far, but the biggest ones I have so far are Silent Hill 2 and 3 and Suikoden V.

Welcome to the forums. Enjoy your time.
Just a friendly heads up, steer clear of soera.

Did I tick someone off here already? I see they're a high ranking official, so that can't be good. :P

Hey there everyone. I've been using the database for a while now but haven't ventured into the forums yet. I've been collecting a few years now, and it's accelerated a bit more recently. I'm a big fan of game hunting and finding games in the wild (thrift stores, pawn shops, yard sales, etc.). I have a number of systems, but for some reason I've put it in my head that I'm going to try to have a complete NA PS2 collection. We'll see how that goes.  :P Anyway, hello!
