Modern Video Games / Re: Avengers 2020 Game
« on: December 16, 2020, 07:40:04 pm »
This game has actually been on my radar since reveal. I'm a big marvel fan. I wasn't able to get it at launch due to being really tight on money this year (thanks, Covid), but hopefully a price drop of some sort comes soon. I've heard quite a lot of mixed opinions on the game so I'm interested in seeing if I'll end up loving it or not. It's by Square Enix so I'm sure I'll have no issues with it.  :P

It's worth it if you can get it for around 20 bucks, which it pretty much was recently I believe on Black Friday, though I'd only recommend it if you got a PS5 or PC because it didn't run great on PS4 Pro when I last played it there in October.  At that price, there's more than enough to get into and they just added the Kate Bishop character and story about a week ago with Hawkeye coming out in probably a month or two.  It's not the best game, but I found enough to like to occasionally keep playing after beatin most of the story content.

I see, if that's the case I may wait until a little after I get a PS5 to play it. Hopefully by then there'll be another sale or something as well haha.

This'll be from least favorite at the beginning to most favorite at the bottom of the post.

#9 - Adventure of Link
#8 - Legend of Zelda
#7 - Wind Waker
#6 - Skyward Sword (I haven't played too much of Skyward Sword at the moment so this ranking is subject to change).
#5 - Majora's Mask
#4 - Link to the Past
#3 - Twilight Princess
#2 - Ocarina of Time
#1 - Breath of the Wild

Classic Video Games / Re: What is your principal goal collecting games?
« on: December 16, 2020, 04:28:13 pm »
I guess it's less of a goal for me and more of a hobby. Video games have been with me throughout practically my whole life and have gotten me through a lot of very tough times. It is now my biggest hobby.

Growing up and watching youtubers like AVGN and more recently Scott the Woz, it's always been a dream of mine to have a room dedicated to video games, with shelves of games just lining the walls. I'm still not that far but hey we all gotta start somewhere, yeah?

Off Topic / Re: What Was The Last Movie/Anime You Watched?

The last movie I watched was Jurassic World while visiting my family on Thanksgiving. Wasn't my first watch however as I saw it when it came out in theaters with a friend back in Freshman year of high school.

At the moment I've been sinking most of my time into The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (the Switch remake) and Paper Mario: The Origami King. That is, until Yakuza Kiwami comes in the mail, then undoubtedly all of my time will be put into that instead. Oh yeah, I've also been playing a bit of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Final Fantasy II (the PSP remake) on the side.

General / Re: Your Top 10 Video Games of all Time
« on: December 16, 2020, 08:41:47 am »
Oh boy, I love topics like this. Anyone who knows me knows I constantly rave about the following games on and on. There's still quite a few games I have yet to play, so this list is subject to change until I can get to those games, but for now, here is my list.

#10 - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
#9 - Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3)
#8 - God of War (2018)
#7 - Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
#6 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
#5 - Super Mario Odyssey
#4 - Grand Theft Auto V
#3 - Final Fantasy XV
#2 - Yakuza 0
#1 - Pokemon Platinum

I try to stick with one game per franchise for lists like these, because otherwise it wouldn't be a very interesting list. I still have yet to get into the Metal Gear Solid franchise, it's one of my top priorities once I can, though. I could genuinely go on and on about these games all day (especially #5 onwards) and sometimes I do get a bit carried away talking about them haha.

Really basic choice here but Sonic 06 has a beautiful soundtrack. Soooo many great music tracks. The Mephiles motif is one of my favorites, but pick any music that plays during any of the levels and they'll all be fantastic.

Classic Video Games / Boxes for loose games/replacement boxes/cases
« on: December 15, 2020, 08:06:58 am »
I'm the type of person that likes to see all of their games up on a shelf, so it does irk me a little that I have so many loose games. My question to everyone is this: What do you use to get cases/boxes for your older loose games and what is, in your opinion, the best way to get them?

As for my case, all of my loose games are for handheld systems, I'm mostly looking for cases for the Game Boy lineup and some DS games.

Right now my hopes are high that Nintendo will release Skyward Sword HD next year for Switch as part of the series' 35th anniversary. Either that or include it in some sort of collection like they did this year with Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I do own Skyward Sword on Wii, but I haven't played too much of it yet. However, I believe it would look beautiful in HD, so an HD remaster would be greatly appreciated. Plus, it being on Swich will give me more incentive to play it more.  :P

Kind of a basic pick here but one of my favorite soundtracks in gaming is the soundtrack to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. To me, the Sinnoh games biggest strength are the atmosphere of the locations in the region and the music does a TON to help with that. Here's just one example...

Absolutely fantastic, and yet these are early DS games.

Modern Video Games / Re: The Game Awards 2020
« on: December 09, 2020, 12:56:44 am »
I'm in such a predicament. I haven't been able to play a majority of the nominations due to being on a stricter budget this year, so I missed out on so many games. The thing is though, I'm 90% sure I'm instead getting a majority of these games around Christmas due to my family basically saying to me, "Hey I got the games you wanted". Going based on just my personal tastes and experiences in the past, my GOTY would probably be Final Fantasy VII Remake. I didn't grow up with the original in any way, but Square Enix is probably my favorite developer. That, and I played quite a bit of the demo, and it was very very good. Looking forward to playing the full game in just a few weeks.

As far as announcements go I'm not going to go in expecting too much based on how last year went. I'd love to be surprised, though. Reading through this thread I'm seeing posts talking about how Microsoft has an announcement, which is VERY interesting. We only have a full day left to go before it's the day of. See you guys after the show.

Hey all, Lex here. Found this site after browsing around for decent ways to keep up with my collection and this so happened to be the first result that popped up and it looks very promising. Turns out there's also a forum! I've been having an itch for a new forum that isn't completely dead and this one looks to be going pretty well at first glance. Looking forward to meeting you all.

As far as collections go, I'm at around the 200 mark in physical copies. I'll have to send a picture of my shelves sometime. I own quite a few systems, as well, hoping to get the PS5 in January.
