Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Developer/Publisher Requests

Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies (RCGS) is a good resource for Japan specific game stuff.
Its a research group at Risumeikan University.

Their website
https://www.rcgs.jp

Their search engine
https://collection.rcgs.jp

Their page about THQ Japan
https://collection.rcgs.jp/page/AGENT0000194

Neither of our qualified sources use this name for the publisher, they just use THQ or THQ Inc.

Publisher: THQ Japan

Subsidiary for THQ in Japan up until 2012.

There is no company entry on Mobygames. Give some game examples and we can check on them to see if it qualifies.

Japanese XB360 versions of the first Saints Row and The Outfit. The company name is on the back of the cover together with the address and customer support info.
Official company name: THQ Japan Kabushikigaisha (THQジャパン株式会社)

Here is an article about it shutting down:

One thing Id like to ask. I have quite a few JP Xbox 360 games that aren't in the database but I don't have access to a scanner. Is it ok to create new items without adding pictures or is it generally frowned upon?

While there are no rules that say submitting images is required, we certainly encourage it if a user is able to provide that information.

With that said, even users without a scanner have the means to submit quality images. GameFAQs and MobyGames are generally good sources to lift images from (especially the latter), but there is nothing wrong with finding photos online to crop and rotate for our needs.

If you're wanting to submit Japanese entries with artwork, I would recommend visiting these sites which are collected in the International Classified Sites Research Archive thread:

If you have to make an entry without pictures but have the item in hand, at least put in the barcode and item numbers into the entry. That way it will be easier for when someone eventually adds a picture to the entry and/or staff need to verify the art is correct.

Thank you for the clarification. I'll keep it a rule for myself to provide cover art when adding a new entry then.

Ive been here for a little while but didn't know there was an intro thread.

First I must say I love it. The site (and the app) is a great way to track the collection. I pretty much only collect CIB Japanese games, mostly SFC, PSX-PS3 and some Xbox.

Classic Video Games / Re: What is the hardest RPG you Ever Completed?

I'd say Star Ocean 4. Getting all trophies with a guide is absolute hell. Getting them without a guide is probably one of the most ridiculous and sadistic things in the history of entertainment, because:

-You have to open all chests in the game.
-Create all items in the item creation thingy.
-Collect 100% of all data (monster, ship etc).
-Unlock all members' endings (which means you will have to talk to everyone at specific points to progress their meter).
-Play with all characters to unlock their in-game battle trophies (there is a lot of them).
-Complete everything related to side quests.
-Kill the super bosses.
-Beat the game three times.

The two hardest difficulties are unlocked after beating the game and endgame on the hardest difficulty can be quite brutal. Oh yeah, a lot of the above is missable, so you probably need at least three playthroughs anyway. Do not do this without a guide. Even with a guide, you can probably get 20-30 other platinums during the same time it takes to get this one.

10. Buckethead
He would probably be higher on the list if he didn't release so much trash, haha. That said, his best work is absolutely amazing.

9. Origin
Chaotic grindfest at its best. If you like grindcore, check out the album Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas.

8. Oh Laura
A small Swedish indie band who only released one album, but the singer Frida Öhrn turns everything she touches into gold.

7. Arch Enemy
Pre-Angela Gossow, its just raw death metal hitting you in the face like a freight train.

6. Slipknot
Probably just a lot of nostalgia, but their three first albums with their rawness gets me every time.

5. Primus (anything with Les Claypool)
Les' bass playing and unique sound was the reason I got interested in the bass to begin with and my playstyle is heavily influenced by him.

4. Dark Tranquility
Everything up to Damage Done is pure gold. The albums after that are still good, but there is something special about their earlier albums. The Gallery is one of the best albums ever made.

3. Nobuo Uematsu
Hands down my favorite game composer. The OST for FFVIII is an absolute masterpiece.

2. Opeth
It doesn't really matter what they are going to play, its going to be an experience. While most people regard Blackwater Park as their magnum opus, Still Life the one that ranks the highest for me.

1. Metallica
I live and breathe this band. Death Magnetic is kind of meh, but the rest of their albums I love to death, even St. Anger.

Depending on the goal with your collection. I just like having a lot of games, so I don't see a problem with it. With some franchises I even go so far as to collect different versions of the same game for the same system, like collecting a bunch of different versions of Final Fantasy.

Items I'm currently waiting for are a couple of FF8 soundtracks and an alternative box version of the first Crash Bandicoot.
Other than that I'm mostly going to focus on my PSX Namco collection, just hit the halfway mark.

I have some loose carts and discs laying around but I don't count them to my collection as I'm only interested in CIBs. Having loose carts lined up on the shelf just feels incomplete, but that's just me.

Not a fan of sports games in general, but NHLPA 93 for the Mega Drive is a game that I still play once a year or so.

I tried to change the barcode for this game from 4967652101379 to 4967652101430 but it got rejected.
The first number is for SLPS-01037 and the second number is for SLPS-91086 (the game I tried to edit). Currently both games have the same barcode in the database.
