Hardware and Tech / Transferring Save Data from Emulator to Cart
« on: December 28, 2024, 04:40:29 am »
Is there a way to connect a cart to a PC in order to extract the save data from a ROM? I just got a copy of FF3 (FF6) but the guy sent the PAL cart by mistake so I have to wait longer for a replacement NTSC one (takes a long time because he's in Malaysia). Can I buy a dumper or something and connect my cart to a PC and extract the save data from a ROM and continue playing on the cart?

Classic Video Games / Can't Stop Buying Repros
« on: December 25, 2024, 06:05:46 am »
I know they're fake but I don't care. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a 30-year-old game cartridge. I'm not buying to build a collection that may be worth money someday, I'm buying to play. You can't buy carts of these games anymore so no one is being hurt by it. I'll pay someone money for an unauthorized copy of copyrighted work because it's obsolete. Twenty bucks a pop where I get them from (not ebay but I'm not saying where). I can get four games for the price of a brand new modern game today. For just a little more money I can get a repro box. My shelf looks like it came straight out of the 90s with all the repros of Genesis, SNES and N64 games, plus a few GBA titles.

Maybe in 30 years I can buy a repro Blu-ray of Indiana Jones & the Great Circle.

General / Someone Needs to Hack MMPR for SNES
« on: December 14, 2024, 11:14:23 pm »
In light of the recent release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, I wanted to say I wish someone would hack the MMPR game on SNES to add the Green Ranger to the lineup. They could just take the sprites and all his moves from the movie-based game, also on SNES. Maybe even make alternate sprites for all the Rangers (as in Jason/Rocky for Red, Zack/Adam for Black, Trini/Aisha for Yellow, Kim/Kat for Pink and Green/White for Tommy)

Or hey, what if they went all-out and replaced all of the street clothes sprites with the characters from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger?

Super The Empire Strikes Back (SNES)
Super Return of the Jedi (SNES)

My carts are all repros. Boxes too. I don't want someone's old 30-year-old copy of DKC that might not even work plus smells like cigarettes and costs $80.

Also, it sucks that MMPR Rita's Rewind is digital only. It would have looked great on my shelf with the SNES game.

I've already starting IJ since I bought the premium edition for early access. It's fantastic. The hand-to-hand combat is the best. I love beating the shit out of Nazis and I love the mo-capped animations of them stumbling. Troy Baker is fantastic doing an impression of Harrison Ford. This guy's career took off with TLoU eleven years ago. Back to the game - the exploration is very immersive and the graphics are photorealistic. The opening is a shot-for-shot remake of the opening of Raiders (save for the removal of some shots to allow you to play instead). The game is out tomorrow.

Rita's Rewind (out Tuesday) will be a love letter to 90s beat 'em ups, especially the SNES games. The game plays a lot like TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, which came out just three years ago.

  • Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)
  • Final Fantasy III (SNES)
  • Super Star Wars (SNES)
  • Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (SNES)
  • Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (SNES)
  • Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures (SNES)
  • Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine (N64)
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PS5)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind (XSX)

I've actually never seen an IJ movie but Great Circle looked amazing and I just had to buy it. Basically, Uncharted in first person. Starring the guy who played the brother of the guy inspired by IJ himself.

The MMPR games comes out next week, as does the regular edition of Great Circle (yesterday was early access for the premium edition).

General / Re: Playstation 30th Anniversary

My first experience with Playstation was playing Crash Bandicoot and Battle Arena Toshinden at my friend Kyle's house. At the time I only had an NES. I was blown away by the graphics. Then I discovered FF7.
