My intention is to sell everything BEFORE I pass so it doesn't get dumped on my hypothetical partner or kids to deal with.

Off Topic / Re: Kabul just fell to the Taliban
« on: August 16, 2021, 08:33:44 pm »
I watched the news on YouTube this morning. Apparently some people had fled their homes in the countryside to get to the capital city, but now even that is under taliban rule, so they essentially lost everything, even their freedom. The current Afghan government said they wanted a "peaceful transfer of power" pretty much saying that they are giving up against the Talibans.

At least my own country's invasion has already happened, yet our assimilation has so far failed. So I'm hopeful for the Afghan resistance but still, we never know how long the talibans will hold on to power. Could be as short as a few months or as long as a century, but it's up to the Afghan civilians to resist their invaders just like my ancestors have resisted despite being under foreign rule for 250 years.
The Taliban outlasted the invaders.

Metal is better and more specialized to individual tastes than ever.  People are no longer restrained by what they decide to play on the radio or what they sell in stores.  Plus there is 50 years of back catalogue to go through.

We already have that, it's the Case/Box checkbox. Adding loose consoles would be a mess.

I kinda hate the sims games, at least playing them how they're meant to be played. The constant micromanagement of your sims (literally needing to instruct them to use the bathroom and eat) was beyond tedious and I never was able to play the game this way for more than an hour or two. However, I still had a lot of fun with The Sims thanks to cheats and patches.

My friend had a pretty powerful computer so we used to patch all sorts of stuff into the game like furniture and other items that aren't in the vanilla game, or of course uncensoring the nudity. We'd build these crazy homes and gawk at squarish polygon boobs. We'd also kill our Sims off in various sadistic ways. Despite all this I mostly grew up to be a productive, functioning member of society lol. It was pretty much adolescent middle school aged boys being their annoying, stupid selves. But that was the extent of my enjoyment with The Sims.

I played The Sims 2 some as well, but it too got real of real fast also.

AMEN @bikingjahuty and @tripredacus

(edit) anything that is evil can but turned around for the purpose of good but the demonic creator of the sims is the one who should be gone, he is a fat SOB and nobody can stand him not even the devil himself, he is pure evil and, The Sims player base are good people, and ALL worked their asses off to make this a great game and it pisses EA off that some many FANS modded this thing without payment of any kind and we have a good time, while EA rots in HELL
He doesn't look particularly fat.

Off Topic / Re: Music thread

I've been going through a late 90's/early 00's punk playlist I put together [...]

Punk? Isn't that the type of music where kids cut each other with razor blades and knives?

That's Emo you're thinking of.

/whoosh

Screamo is another subgenre of Emo according to what I read, I probably never heard any Emo before but I've heard Screamo, and it's basically just guys in their teens and 20's just shouting and yelling (at the top of their lungs) out lyrics that only some people are able to understand what they are even saying.

Death metal and Black metal is the vary next step down the Screamo latter. Only Death Metal has more of a growling like screamo type of lyrics, and Black metal is pretty much the same as Death only it's more for hard core fans of the Death and Screamo/Emo latter. My sister used to listen to all of the above AND just about everything I listen to as well. Except I don't think she ever listened to any torcher soundtracks AND NO not she is not a Satan worshiper either, she just used to like growling metal for some reason.

I'm guessing that people listen to that kind of metal because it lets out their aggression and frustration, but that only my guess on the take. :-\
Black and Death metal came before Screamo and neither had much influence on Screamo.

General / Re: Video Game Collecting Dying Thoughts?
« on: April 21, 2021, 11:55:38 am »
Collecting Videogames is more populair then ever why would it by dying anytime soon? I'd almost  start calling it a hipster hobby, wherest 15-20 years ago it was just seen as a poor man's hobby.

I was being laughed at school sometimes because i was into older games, like why would you want that old junk can't you afford a ps2!!

GBA came out at the very same time as the ps2 and those where all 2D games. and since they where brand new games it's not a poor mans hobby in that case.

Pretty much every kid liked 2d games at the time as a result of the gba being really popular. Ds also didn't shy away from 2d games.

I'm talking retro stuff, what does the gba have to do with this it was new back then. If you were like 16 in 2002 all most school kids cared about was playing gta 3 and maybe (smoking cigs and drinking beer.)
If you were seen walking around with a handheld you would end up being laughed at for it being a kids console or in the worst case being bullied, well atleast it was like that to the school i went.
Since i was into master system and sega in general i was being laugh at for being too poor to buy the latest consoles, not that i really cared anyway, trading a pack of cigarettes or couple of beers for a ps1 rpg, well don't mind me if i do, yep i was still being called an idiot after the trade.

was pretty different for me at the time.

Everyone was playing pokemon or mario smash. GBA was just as new as the ps2. it wasn't retro ps2 was released in 2000 gba in 2001. ps2 is more retro than the gba.

Sure people had GTA aswell. but in my case at school everyone was talking about regi puzzles and such. You where the cool kid if you knew the secrets of such games. Fun times especially since I was one of the guru's at the time for this kind of stuff. pretty much everyone was busy with nintendo it seems.

Gamecube was the console for multiplayer ps2 and xbox where not really notable at the time in my region at least. and when people usually had those aside from GTA they only had shovelware.

I also remember that even at the time we would download snes roms or that people had a sega console from their parents that they would use.

Guess what's popular will vary per region. Always interesting to see what other people's experiences where at the time.
In my area people were playing both Pokemon and GTA type games concurrently.  PS2 being the console of choice for single player and Xbox for multiplayer.  I only knew 2 people with a Gamecube when it was current.
