Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Duplicate List 2024

Another duplicate, this is a common mistake due to Nintendo's wacky and inconsistent naming scheme with Super Mario Advance. Technically the duplicate is correct based on Nintendo EU's (still up!) GBA manual PDF page. I get a white screen for a bit every time, but it does load.

Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World [EU]

Admins have rejected my edits for two titles and on one (Aliens: Fireteam Elite) posted a link to the title that even shows the correct info I am trying to put in that they rejected.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - https://www.vgcollect.com/item/211574
Correct release date as shown by the PlayStation store should be 08/23/21 - admins even posted this url with the edit rejection which shows 08/23: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP6951-PPSA03393_00-ALIENSFIRETEAMUS

Wrong.

MobyGames, GameFAQs, and Wikipedia also confirm an August 24, 2021 date.

I see the 23rd as well, I'm not sure what causes this weird discrepancy.

Maybe it's some weird regional thing?

Made some silly typos in my edit of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (Seven e-Reader card Bonus Included!) which is my bad. Also, the Demo cards don't have card numbers in the same way the Power-Ups and Levels do so I've added the little ID at the bottom of the card instead.

I've revised what I wanted to add to the Description below and I will be submitting this:

Some copies of the game from Walmart included the 2 standard bonus e-Reader cards: the Power-Up Super Leaf (Item 03) and the Level Wild Ride in the Sky (Level 01) in addition to 5 extra bonus e-Reader cards: the Power-Up Super Mushroom (Item 01), the Power-Up Fire Flower (Item 02), the Power-Up 1-Up Mushroom (Item 18), the Demo for World 4-6 (Card ID: 52512A 07-E004), and the Level Airship's Revenge (Level PR) for 7 cards total.

EDIT: ...to my embarrassment I've left out an apostrophe for the Level "Airship's Revenge". If you see this, please accept my second edit and not my first.

This is very nice, I used to have to go into Desktop Mode on mobile in order to find Advanced Search. Thanks!

Site Feedback / Re: New genre suggestions

You mentioned Third-person shooter being added as a choice some time ago. I think the same could be done for the existing Platformer option. The difference between 2D and 3D platformers is not only large, but also obvious, which means subjectivity isn't an issue.

The only issue I can see happening with this is for games that are a blend of 2D and 3D like Klonoa aka 2.5D games. I suppose the default "platformer" genre tag would have to stay for these exceptions and to prevent erroneously changing all labels for games already submitted with that tag.

If the Platformer option were further specified to 2D and 3D, there would be no need for the nondescript option nor a 2.5D option. 2.5D games consist of 2D gameplay across what appears to be a 3D plane. With that said, genre relates to gameplay, not appearance, so games like Klonoa would be correct to list as 2D platformer for their genre.

Is there ever any consideration to add "Compilation" as a genre? Or do you feel that "Other" is good enough for cases where not all the games are the same genre?

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: The Rating List

What does it mean if I have a scan of an IGAC rating that doesn't seem to exist? It's M/4, which isn't on any IGAC lists I casually Googled nor on the list here, closest is M/3.

Please delete it, thank you.

Here to preempt a possible rejection. I edited the following item: https://vgcollect.com/item/31910 to add on "(CD)" as this entry uses a version that has an extra sticker/label to indicate it has a CD included as a first time limited benefit (I'm guessing that means a first print run bonus sort of deal). There exists copies without the sticker/label but as I don't own one myself I don't feel comfortable adding it, plus it seems like the CD version is a lot more common anyhow.

If you think "(CD)" is lacking in description, please feel free to adjust it as you like.

I'm almost always logged into the forum, but the database side always makes me log back in every time I close it for a while.

So it turns out you shouldn't move image files before submitting a new item in the database, I thought images uploaded immediately but they don't.
