I feel they've thrown in a lot of surprise titles to differentiate this from the previous mini consoles or collections on other consoles. However I feel with just 10 games to go, that there's now some games that are on those collections that are sorely missed here.

Shining Force 2
Shining in the Darkness
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Streets of Rage
Alien Storm
Columns
Kid Chameleon

If any of those 9 games are missing I'd be disappointed. The four in bold I'd bet my house on being included.

Then you could still round it out with one last surprise inclusion; Aladdin or Road Rash would be my choice.

I tend to differ from most traditional fans in a number of ways.

Firstly I consider X to be a classic title as opposed to a modern title which I suppose won't make sense to some as it was on the same platform as XII but at the same time, there was a big gap between them.

Secondly I have mixed feelings towards the more modern titles. I consider XII & XIII to be good games but they pale in comparison to the classic titles in the series. Whereas with XV, which I consider a superior title to both, because it's such an extreme departure from the old; I almost forget it's a Final Fantasy and simply judge it on its own merits. Although I suppose with that in mind, one might argue that I'm not being as harsh on XV as I'm not constantly comparing it to the likes of VI, VII etc.

So to answer your question..... I suppose I am happy with the direction, in that I think they're good games. However if you offered me the option of having the games revert to the open world, turn based RPGs of old, I would choose that option every time.

Well, this post kinda saddens me, but I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not going to be able to keep up with this thread anymore. Some things in my RL have changed and I just don't have the time anymore to devote to it. For most of this year I've felt like I've been struggling to keep up with it, and I think this latest break between my times to update combined with the TGS flood of new info is the final nail in the coffin.

If anyone wants to take over duties here, you have my blessing.  It was fun, and I hope helpful to at least someone. And I'll still be around to chat from time to time. :)

Oh no, I hope everything's ok with you IRL, argyle! It's amazing what you've done in this thread, and it's so appreciated! I'll miss your regular updates :'(

No, it's nothing bad, it's just that I don't have as much free time as I did when I first started this. :)
My favourite thread on the site. I only check the forums irregularly, so irregular updates work for me  ;D

Is Bastion any good? I've heard of the name before but don't know much about the game.
It's a really good game in my opinion.

It's an action RPG; that seems to take inspiration from 2D Zelda but it's more linear.

A fun way to spend 6-8 hours.

Hurray Bastion was open preorder  ;D

Honestly most of the titles off Limited Run are shovelware; but it's great when they do top games like this so I can have them on the shelf.

I feel it's been a combination of factors.

Firstly price; games are relatively cheaper nowadays, back then I might have gotten 2 games a year (granted I was a child). But comparatively my nephew gets at least 5 times that amount nowadays. Renting games was a cheaper alternative (or at least it appeared to be on the surface).

Also digital; it's just made things more convenient. It's also created a platform for smaller titles; which can possible scratch the itch that a rental might have done previously.

It's a shame really; as I have fond memories of rentals.

Most weekends my dad would rent me a game for my SNES; the likes of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island spring to mind.

And as time went on; I can remember regularly renting the likes of Wild ARMs and Vandal Hearts 2 for PS1. I spent so much renting them that I could have bought them. I did actually get the copies when my local video game store closed down; as my brothers worked there.

Modern Video Games / Re: E3 Rumor/Leak Discussion

It is in no way a confirmation that anything will be announced at E3 for it, but I've seen videos and articles about some french website that deals in video game merchandise having two new UPC for Elder Scroll 6 posters. This could be a place holder for something well, well down the rode, but we can all hope it is something that will happen much sooner. I think everyone expects Bethesda to eventually announce ES6, but the question is really when. If they so much as just did a teaser trailer with some narrator, some epic musical score and the title logo for the game, I'd pass out in excitement.
Todd Howard suggested previously that ES6 won't be their next game.

Rumors that they will finally announce their space RPG this E3.

The name escapes me; but I'm sure most can recall they registered some trademarks a couple years back.

Might be good timing; Mass Effect: Andromeda was a disappointment; and many are desperate for their space fix.
I think it is called Starfield
Yeah that's it.

Hopefully it's the case. Be cool to see what they do with a space setting.

Elder Scrolls 6 will be 2020 or 2021 for me; perhaps a last hurrah for the current gen or maybe a launch window game for the next gen.

Likely this might be reality soon.

Nintendo have filed a number of patents relating to N64 in Japan recently.

I feel the following are nailed on.....

Super Mario 64
Donkey Kong 64
Super Mario Kart 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Paper Mario
F Zero X
Star Fox 64
Castlevania 64 (Castlevania tend to be staples on these things)
Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Stadium

But beyond those 11 titles I'm not sure.

I feel Goldeneye and the wrestling games are a licensing minefield.

However I do have a feeling that Microsoft will play ball; so we might see...

Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Diddy Kong Racing
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Perfect Dark

Even though they're not 'classics', I feel these may be added to make up the numbers....

Kirby 64
Yoshi's Story

So would people be happy with those 18 titles as the N64 mini line up?

8-bit era:
1. Final Fantasy II
2. Final Fantasy I

I haven't really played many 8-Bit J-RPGs. I'd like to play Dragon Quest and Phantasy Star some time.

16-Bit era:
1. Final Fantasy VI
2. Final Fantasy IV
3. Shining Force 2
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Shining Force
6. Breath of Fire 2
7. Breath of Fire
8. Shining in the Darkness

Again haven't really played enough to have a full top 10.

32/64-Bit era:
1. Suikoden 2
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Wild ARMs
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Suikoden
6. Final Fantasy VII
7. Vandal Hearts 2
8. Breath of Fire IV
9. Breath of Fire III
10. Grandia

PS2 Era:
1. Final Fantasy X
2. Persona 4
3. Grandia 2
4. Shadow Hearts
5. Shadow Hearts 2
6. Arc: Twilight of the Spirits
7. Suikoden III
8. Suikoden V
9. Star Ocean 3
10. Dark Cloud 2

PS3 Era:
1. Star Ocean 4
2. Tales of Vesperia
3. Lost Odyssey
4. Tales of Graces-f
5. The Last Story
6. Final Fantasy XIII-2
7. Final Fantasy XIII

I kind of had a hiatus from J-RPGs during this era. I did play some other J-RPGs but I don't like them. There's a few titles I want to get back to, so maybe I'll have a Top 10 by then.

I think the Walmart leak (typos aside); has legs. We've already seen it with RAGE 2.

I also think this Pokemon Yellow remake/sequel for Switch is also real.

Didn't realise Play Asia were doing this; mind none of the titles seems to have been for me so far.

LRG
Fangamer
I-Am-8-Bit

It's hard to keep up with these things  :o

Huh, Cosmic Star Heroine's finally coming out?

I just hope Salt and Sanctuary can follow soon :/
These are the only two I'm waiting on tbh. Kind of jumped off it after I missed out on Oceanhorn.

Glad to see Cosmic is an open pre-order, as opposed to the usual race.

14
Dissappointed with LRG.

I haven't tried to get them all but I've gotten the ones I've wanted until this one.

I could have sworn previously once you put the items in your basket you had a certain time frame to checkout, with your items being reserved.

However with Ocean Horn, by the time I'd filled in my details, it was sold out.

Absolutely ridiculous that something like that can happen.

Also allowing people to buy two of everything? Why? So people can scalp!?

Not very happy at all.

Wii U version of Bloodstained cancelled.

Seem to remember a few people on here got quite defensive when I predicted that a long time ago.
