Classic Video Games / Re: Super Metroid Playtronic?

Update: I opened up the cartage to find what you see in the pictures. The game is a fake. I just reported the person and requesting my money back. I am not okay with someone trying to sell fakes/repros without stating it in the listing or on the cartage. The game does work on my SNES Jr but not on my Retron 5. Either way this person has been reported and hope to get my money back. Thank you guys for the information.

Classic Video Games / Super Metroid Playtronic?
« on: October 27, 2017, 02:48:04 pm »
So i got my copy of Super Metroid in the mail today. One thing i noticed that on the label it says "Playtronic" Ive never seen this on a cartage before. So i looked it up and it's a South american company that distribute the game. I have no problems with having this. However whenever i did buy it off of Ebay the picture showed the american cartage and even stated it the the US version (which it seems they both are still the same). Is there anything real difference between them? I paid $28 for it. Just wondering.

edit: added a pic

Classic Video Games / Re: Consoles beyond 6th gen worthless

With consoles, I feel like they are a dying breed. As much as I do love consoles, sadly they are slowly dying off. A lot of things now of days is either going on PC or on Mobile. With how the world is most people are on the go a lot. so things like smartphones, psp's, NDS's and such are more used. While PC's are all over the place and they are used for everything and easy enough to access one. While console you have to buy it and setup it up in your house and make more time for it than the other two. Like some jobs, you can take a break or have lunch and play a game on a computer at work, or your own laptop or smart phone or such. You don't have an easy time to play a console. Of course, you can try to make time to play on a console but when you add in everything else in someone's everyday life it could be a lot harder to make time for a console vs the rest. On top of the price for games and such too. I rather not see console die but I feel like it's heading there.

Classic Video Games / Re: Repro Game Carts

Whatever the cheapest option is, I'll generally go for. Most repro carts are $25 - $40. If the original is a lot more expensive than that and I have to have the game right now, then I'll get a repro. My Earthbound is repro, and to be honest I'm glad that I didn't spend the money on an original copy - wouldn't have been worth it to me.

I think a lot of collector's feel like it's cheating. Some have said they don't even like the idea of the original publisher printing more, and would prefer the re-print to be distinguishable. That's a level of collecting that I don't get into. It's not the age, assembly number, or scarcity of item I'm interested in, it's just the physical media format itself.

I can understand how people feel like it's cheating and I myself would rather own the original copy but if it's something like Earthbound where the game is so much money i can understand getting a repro of it. But i mainly see repro as either homebrews, or games that didn't come out here in america. Which is why i ordered the sailor moon game like i did... and also because i could get it in pink... but that was just the cherry on top hehe.

General / Re: Not For Resale: A Video Game Store Documentary

Just saw this on one of the video game facebook groups I'm in. I think this would be a documentary to have. I'm sure a lot of us on here can appreciate something like this since we are all collectors. I know there is a retro game store here in central FL that I love. I go to them every chance I can get. So seeing a Documentary about brick and mortar stores and how they survive and such would be awesome to watch. Check it out

I remember about 5 or 6 years ago Racketboy had a series where he went to various game stores around the country and showed off what they had. It was definitely interesting stuff and made me want to go to a few of these stores really bad. They were filmed before collecting blew up too, which makes it even more bitter sweet.

That's cool. I know I've been collecting video games for most of my life. I wish when I was younger I didn't get talked into selling off my SNES and NES. I had close to 200 nes games. I just got a PS1 and my grandmother talked me into selling off my old stuff since I have new stuff which is "Better". At first I said no but she kept at until I finally said yes. Then many years later I started missing my snes and nes greatly.

I own a few of my original nes games like my zelda games and a few others. Sadly my the first zelda game is dead now. Since i was a child i remember going to flea markets picking up nes games for only like $2 or $3. Going to thrift stores, good wills, and other retro game stores. Every game store i went to closed up in time. The one I go to now has been around for years now. They also have two locations which the other one is too far for me to go to. I also recently discovered another retro game store here that's not too far from me.

I go to one of the fleamarkets here from time to time. Which is where ive found most of my recent finds at. There is this one guy that goes and setups up there. He has nothing but video games. However, i refuse to buy from him. The couple of times i've looked at his stuff, one it's over priced, Games that i know i can buy for only a few bucks or higher priced games for less than what he wants. Also his ways of trying to sell you things. i was looking at his stuff and listening to him trying to sell Pokemon Ruby Red to someone. He was talking it up saying how rare it is that you won't be able to find it anywhere else that easy. then the person ask how much and he goes "Because of how rare it is im can't sell it no less than $40" mind you this was just the game it's self, no box no manual, nothing other than the game. im standing there thinking in my head "wtf... no... just no" since then i've always walked right by his stuff. I do not deal with people like that. Hell No.

Thank you, everyone, for all the welcomes! I am looking forward to interacting more on this site as time goes on.

Welcome! This is a wonderful place to be.
I love this site. Not only from a collector but I also love contributing edits and new items, plus almost everyone on the forums posts high quality submissions and there is a ton of entertaining things to do. Plus the mods respond quickly and are willing to help/clarify all the time.

That's awesome. Yeah, I have contributed at least 125 things to the database. A lot of steam games that wasn't in list and some gaming swag. I know I enjoy doing game reviews from time to time. I need to get back to working on my youtube channel again.

Welcome hope you enjoy the sight I found it a great place to gather info on my game collecting.

Thanks! i am already enjoying the site greatly so far. within the first few days, i already learned some new things i didn't even know or realized. Like 3 screw, and 5 screw version of games like Castlevania for the NES, and the two different Nintendo labels. I never really thought too much about the Nintendo labels until now. So I'm looking forward to finding out more as I keep using this site.

Repro/Everdrive are the way to go. First you won't get ruined and second you won't ruin your physical copies. As long as it clearly says ''Reproduction'' I have no problem with them.

Ive thought about getting an Everdrive for the same reasons you just said. That way I can keep my physical in good conduction.

I've got a repro of Mother 3's fan translation and a few others that are homebrews and such. I will usually buy a digital copy over a repro if available but I'm not hugely against repros if you aren't trying to decieve or rip someone off

Yeah, im with you on that. I'm not against repros as long are they are not trying to rip people off. I don't mind digital copies of games but for consoles, I rather have physical copies if possible. Like I said I can see it for homebrews and for something that wasn't released where you live or like you said mother 3's fan translation. I think repro overall is a great idea if done right.

I play it all really. I am more so a fan of retro than anything else. However, I do enjoy modern gaming too a lot. I do not own a XboxOne, a PS4, or a switch. I do most of my modern gaming on PC now of days. I'm not interested enough to go out and buy a XboxOne or a PS4 right now for only a few games that I might play. So I rather wait till later to buy the console when it's cheaper. However, I am greatly interested in the Switch though. I plan on getting one of them sometime in the near future.

For Retro my favorite console has to be the SNES, then the PS2 right after. I actively collect games retro games for NES, SNES, PS1, and PS2. I will go out of my way to grow my collection for these. I also collect Japanese game too for these systems. I have a "modded" SNES Jr that i play Japanese games on. I do collect for other consoles such as sega, n64, gamecube but i don't go out of my way for these games though. If i happen to see games or something i will pick it up if it's not too much. Im hoping one day that i will run into a 3DO, Intellivision, or other consoles that weren't big in the mainstream as others where.
