Bonjour monsieur,

For general information, I just found out that monkeyjam is from my hometown of barely 30,000 people. Out of potentially 7.5 billion in the world, turns out a fellow member of VGcollect lived pretty much next door. I still can't believe it!

(...) Hopefully you don't mind me replying in English instead.

(...)

Considering there's still plenty of users that have yet to participate in the forums, I'd wager there have to be some French, as well as more Canadians among them. It'd be nice to see new faces around here, so maybe they'll stop playing hide-and-seek one of these days.

Hey that's fine, as I said in my OP, I don't force anyone to speak French on my thread. You get an A for effort! Yeah about people not being on the forums, at first I was like that, just lurking around the database and cataloguing my games. I only started going on the forums when I eventually had questions concerning style guides and stuff.

==============================

Grand Theft Auto V [États-Unis]:
https://vgcollect.com/item/67362

Grand Theft Auto V [Canada]:
https://vgcollect.com/item/197987

https://vgcollect.com/item/160485
https://vgcollect.com/item/160486

Just send an email if this ever happens. First of all, a general website outage isn't something they could fix with one click, and contacting them wouldn't fix it faster, it would just end up wasting their time. But for an issue that only affects your account and not others, then just send an email. There is one staff email adress that I know of but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to disclose it here.

Je vais me laisser sortir.

Anywho, you're not breaking any rules, and I think it would be stupid for anyone to even think you are. You posted this in the right place anyway, so have at it.

====================

I'm testing the waters on a French speaking thread. I took a look at the forum rules and didn't see anything about not speaking english on the forums, but feel free to reply in English in this topic if you wish so. My goal isn't to alienate non-french speakers, but rather to see who here speaks French, have a discussion about the french language (even in English if you prefer) and also help those who wish to learn / improve their French. If this thread somehow breaks a rule (by being mostly in French), I am sorry.

Everything before the 5th generation. I grew up with the PS2 so nothing regarding the SNES, NES, Genesis, e.t.c. are interesting to me. The oldest console that I would like to have is the 3DO. Nothing before. And sports titles + JRPGs are of no interest as well.

I noticed that what we play as kids will greatly affect our taste in video games later on. A friend of mine who opened his video game store keeps friendly nagging me about how racing games are crap, and I keep nagging him about how JRPGs are crap. Well he grew up at a time where racing games were truly garbage, but during the golden age of JRPGs. And I grew up during the golden age of racing games and open-world titles. Nowadays stuff like Super Mario on the NES can get very pricey especially if complete in box because people who grew up with those games are in their mid 40s and they are all living their mid-life crisis. So we can expect the same thing to happen to stuff like NFSU2 in the future when my generation hits its mid-life crisis.

I screwed up royally. I submitted item edits meant for the PS3 version, not PS4. It's 11:52 PM and I'm feeling very sleepy, no wonder why I failed to notice it was PS4 not PS3  ;D

Please reject my edits lol
It looks like somebody accepted them. Which edits are wrong?

Item number and barcode. Fortunately the rest was rejected. Man I was completely on another planet yesterday when I made the edits, fortunately I immediately realised my mistake lmao. In 4 years that I've been contributing to VGcollect I had to have a dumb screw-up at some point lol

It's nice to see an actual poll being made about it since it is an issue that I brought to attention a few months ago. I'm unsure what option would be best to choose, but my general goal would be to follow the box style. For instance, GTA San: Andreas on 360 has 2 versions, the 360 "DVD sized" box and the later version branded as 360 & ONE featuring the ONE box style. Sure, the disc ISO is the same I believe, but since the box style of the second version follows the ONE style, it should be under Xbox One. Same for Xbox demo discs, a portion of them play on both the original Xbox and Xbox 360, but when I tasked myself with cleaning up the Xbox Demo section in the database 2 years ago (and I'm still not done yet) I treated those releases as 360 Demo and not OG Xbox Demo. And finally, the fact that this is already how most of us did things in the database, it is logical to keep it this way. But yes, the opposite would be true, in the case of that Watch Dogs Legion release for instance, it's definetly a PS4 game, who cares that the PS5 can still play it, it's called retrocompatibility. If there's a PS4 logo, it's a PS4 release. If there's a PS5 logo, it's a PS5 release. If there's both logos but the box style is closer to one console, we should list it under that console. And as for those ONE/Series cross-platform releases, both logos are there and the box style is exactly the same between both consoles, so you have to view the retrocompatibility argument. If it plays in both consoles it just means that it's a Xbox One game and it's simply recognised as a Xbox One game internally when inserted in a Xbox Series and your game is merely played on retrocompability mode. That's the way I see it, but yeah blurring the line between game generations is causing a lot of problems for archivists and I hate this trend.

I got a few rejected edits, I wish we had a "notes" section in the "Submit an item" tab, a section where we can leave notes to admins that explain or justify the edits we make. Anyway, here are the rejected edits that concern me:

https://www.vgcollect.com/item/197215

When I created this entry I entered the wrong barcode by mistake. When I attempted to edit the item with the right barcode it was rejected :/
The right barcode should be 805529105799

Second issue, this listing:
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/180350

There are 2 versions of the Day One Edition. One in a steelbook and one in a regular PS4 box. This item is the regular Day One Edition but it still has the picture, barcode and item number of the steelbook version. Once again, my attempt to edit these things were rejected. In comparison, here is the listing for the steelbook version: https://www.vgcollect.com/item/197219

Scarface: The World Is yours

The most underrated PS2 game in my opinion. Upon hearing the title, lots of people assume it's just some lazy tie-in game for Scarface. It is far from it. It's an open-world game in the style of Grand Theft Auto, yet it is quite distinct from it in many ways. The game is absolutely amazing. No thread can well explain how good it is. I'll try to sum it up roughly.

Game mechanics:
The shooting mechanics are the best shooting mechanics of any game of that generation, period. No joke. It's hard to explain how well done it is because english isn't my native language and I don't wanna bother trying to explain such a concept, but you just have to try it with every weapon in every situation and you will understand, there is just too much to say. Driving is awesome as well and very well done. Handling is just right, but again you'll have to try it to understand. Other than that, you can mod weapons, hire henchmen, mod your crib (place any object anywhere you want), buy and upgrade property, do drug deals (big and small, with completely different ways to do them depending on the scale), there is a music player in-game where you can select tracks to play and even create custom mixtapes. There is much, much more, but all of this ain't even the best part yet.

Setting and atmosphere:
This is the number one reason to why this game is absolutely unforgettable. This game is the ultimate chill out game. Have you ever been playing a game and just stopped to contemplate the moment? Shooting bad guys is awesome but sometimes you'd like to just sit back and play chill..

Picture this:
You are playing Scarface: The World is Yours late at night. You are sitting on your couch, cozy, lights are dim. In the game, it's the 1980s, you are driving your car on a road at the cost of a tropical island. Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen is playing on the radio, as you are arriving to a coast village. You stop your car at a gas station and just leave it there, and start walking to the nearby docks (as the music keeps playing because the game lets you play music on foot as well). As you walk in the village, you chat with some passerbys, before eventually boarding your boat and "driving" towards the sunset. You arrive at Miami on a small private beach behind some hotel. There are campfires and people dancing/chatting. Music changes to some reggae and you spend the evening having conversations with the people outside. Eventually, late in the night, you call up one of your cars and go for a spin. You drive to a different hotel downtown and go up the elevator. Up there, in a huge private suite, there are once again plenty of people having fun, dancing and socialising. Through the windows of the suite, you see the city at night from above. You feel young and nostalgic. The world around you and the moment you are living is just unforgettable. This is the life.

The game has an absolutely insane number of enterable buildings and areas that will just make you stop and contemplate the moment. Outside the buildings, you have the city of Miami as well as a 2nd map reacheable by boat or seaplane set in the caribbean and featuring many different islands to explore. The atmosphere is just breathtaking. Coupled with previously mentioned game mechanics, you have something worth living. Yet there is something else, there is a speech button. If you are alone, let's say on a balcony contemplating the sunset, your player might say "This is the life man" or "I wish Manolo was here..", out of many lines. If you are close to an NPC, you will stike up a conversation with it. Yes, seriously. Of course, if the NPC you are interacting with doesn't have any prerecorded dialogue, the conversation will stay quite bland. But scattered around the map are NPCs with unique dialogues, with which you can have more complex conversations. So far in my playthrough, how many UNIQUE conversations do you think I have found? The answer is OVER 100 DIFFERENT CONVERSATIONS. Seriously, the game even counts how many of these unique interactions you have found. Yet I've somehow still not found them all. The average conversation is around 5 to 10 lines of dialogue long. The game has over 40000 lines of dialogue. I wish there was a way to explain how perfect the atmosphere is, but there isn't. The only way is to go and play the game. You will not be disappointed.

This post just barely scratched the surface of what makes this game the best on PS2.
